Eyes fill with hatred
When they fall upon me
You worship gods of violence and bigotry
Forgetting lessons learned
That prove these
The wrong ideals

Don't let me follow in the footsteps
I won't embrace these wrong ideals
This thirst for violence,
domination
it only serves your wrong beliefs

This is my indictment of your beliefs
This is m indictment of what you hold dear

Your evil consumes you
A jealous few incite ignorant followers
Invoke the name and watch the masses turn on us
For fear that I embody what you fear

This is my indictment of your beliefs
This is m indictment of what you hold dear

My eyes have seen the horrors that you
Commit in the name of your god
Your god is violence
Your god is unholy
Your god is violence
Your god is unholy

Eyes fill with hatred,
when they fall upon you

Invoke the name and watch the masses turn on us
For fear that I embody what you fear

Your god is violence
Your god is unholy
Your god is violence
Your god is unholy

General Comment:Based on these lyrics it is hard to believe any of the members of the band are Christian. The Christian God is very violent and his followers are very bigoted. The Crusades and the Inquisition are great examples of Christian violence. This song not only speaks about Christianity, but of other religions such as Islam which use violence. They are basically saying that people committing violence for any religion is wrong.

General Comment:This song seems to be talking of the christian religion in America today, how hateful and judgmental most "christians" are, not accepting people for not having a religion, or a different religion. And i couldn't agree more.

General Comment:I think the "gods" he's talking about in this song don't have to be literal, they're metaphors for hate, hedonism, and such. Phil's talking about how our society is taught to hate Christians through bending misunderstanding of us and giving very bad examples of what "Christianity" is. (Westboro Baptist Church, anyone?) Here he's fed up with how down the drain our society is, with our glorifying sex over love, murdering people so much that even middle schoolers are doing it, and whatnot. He's saying we need to turn around before the flames consume the world in the end.

General Comment:This song is about Islam
"You worship gods of violence and bigotry"
The goal of muslims is to rid this world of infidel.Because thats what their "god" tells them to do.
"My eyes have seen the horrors that you
Commit in the name of your god"
Phil was in the Marines so what do you think he saw.
My guess would be suicide bombings, women and children murdered and things like that. But its okay if your muslim thats what god tells you to do.
    "Your god is violence
    Your god is unholy"

General Comment:i took this song as a literal indictment of those who committ acts of violence and evil in the name of their religion, whether that be God or Allah or Buddha or whatever...it also could be taken as anti-Old Testament God lyrics. hard to say.

"your god is violence...your god is unholy.'

this song kicks ass...first ATR guitar solo i learned how to play, it's one of the best on the whole album.

General Comment:Since I don't have any of the background info on this band, I'll have to assume that everybody is correct in saying the vocalist is a Christian. With that assumption, the most obvious interpretation of this song is about gods in the sense of materialism and evil. The song is not about Islam, because Muslims do not worship gods (plural). Sorry, some interpretations are just wrong, and that is one such.

However, the song is pretty vague in its wording. So vague, in fact, that it can validly be interpreted as a rally against all religion. Not a single line in the song invalidates that interpretation. Even the line "Your god is violence" fits because it can mean that the god is the metaphorical embodiment of violence. I'm not saying that it's what the writer/singer intended, just that the meaning fits the words. Ironic to say the least.

So that makes me wonder, if the singer is as devoutly Christian as the commenters here are claiming, why did he make this song so vague that it can be turned around on his own beliefs? Is it possible that he intended this as a criticism of both materialistic evil and religion? Or did he just not see the irony when he wrote it? I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it was intentional.

General Comment:i think salsashark exactly right, causee i mean casue both xans and muslims have used god as a reason to kill, its undeniable, i mean look at the crusades for xans and 9/11 for muslims. their not the same god obviously, casue there is only one god. but id assume that their leaning towards the fact that hes talking to the muslims becasue the band is not an atheistic, satanic, or muslim band. in the THANK YOUs section of the bands first CD, 'Behind Silence and solitude", Phill labonte himself, fist thing he thanked was "my God and His Son [Jesus Christ] , my father for demonstrating what a real man is" obviously he is a bleiver and knew how he got to where he is. also Chris thanked God aswell first and foremost.
therefore the band is, for the most part, a Christian band, or atleast believe in God and Jesus Christ. When they say a god of violence, Phil is refering to ppl who use either allah or God, the wrong way, violently and unholyly

General Comment:Well I guess even if the band intended it to be about god, you can interpret the song as you wish, that is basically what music is for....
