Lyrics for Justice and Mercy as interpreted by FlyleafRox

Justice and Mercy Lyrics
We can’t be oblivious
We are not ignorant
Blood in our hearts
Blood on our hands
We’re human, we reason, we’re breathing, protecting
The living and dying, surviving, we’re trying
To breathe in safety
Come home safely

Mercy screams it’s violent love
Justice and mercy
Justice and mercy
The depth of us created for
Justice and mercy
Justice and mercy
This is where they kiss

Life he sacrificed
Someone who paid the price
Blood in our hearts
Blood on our hands
We’re crying, we’re fighting, it’s warfare, we’re dying
Believing we’re winning, it’s ending, we’re singing
It’s already done
We’ve overcome

Mercy screams it’s violent love
Justice and mercy
Justice and mercy
The depth of us created for
Justice and mercy
Justice and mercy
This is where they kiss

With a life on the line (fire)
That consumes or refines (fire)
To ascend or decline
To retreat or to climb
Out of sight out of mind
‘Til attacked from behind
Will this fire consume or refine

Mercy screams it’s violent love
Justice and mercy
Justice and mercy
The depth of us created for
Justice and mercy
Justice and mercy
This is where they kiss

I love this song and think it is very unique just like all of their songs. Flyleaf rox because all of their songs sound different unlike most bands today.

My favorite part of this is "blood in our hearts, blood on our hands, we're human, we reason, we're breathing, protecting, the living and dying, surviving, we're trying." I think it is saying we're human, and we have the abliity to do be so much more, but we're guilty of ignoring our point of being here, in this life.

This is pretty basic!...

She's basiccally reminding us that jesus died for us and that we can't ignore it, or forget and to live for his purpose justice and mercy, and to never give up on him

but at the same time, no ones perfect and theres no way to be perfect we're all human.. so shes saying that as well...

Lacey Mosley is a truely awesome beautiful person whole to whole, i've met her 3 times and She is so dedicated and nice... her lyrics are all deeper then you think she deserves alot more credit and There all about GOD!!!!!

I Actually Remade This Song
It's More Of The Demonic Style
Yet It Still Points Out The 'Bad' In The World

It IS about the troops.. If you listen to it thinking about soldiers and war, its make alot more sense.

Lacey said once that it's for the troops and it is about a spiritual war too. and if you think about it you can compare the war to a spiritual war. people are in Iraq, sacrificing their lives so we can sit back and say we are still alive and are "free". Jesus died for that very same reason.

Someone obviously didn't read the lyrics very closely. The song is about the war in Iraq "we're trying to breathe in safety, come home safely" and "believing we're winning, it's ending, we're singing, we've overcome, it's already done" are clear examples. The bassist (who's name escapes me at the moment) has a sister serving in Iraq.

its about Gods crazy love. its a fire that consumes and refines. He is a God of justice and love. a perfect balance that only he knows how to give because he perfectly right. God is a just God and God is a merciful God.

one most often hears this truth in relation to babies going to heaven. they are not saved. so therefore to be just, God must send them to hell. but they never heard about God so God has mercy on them and does not. we dont know what happens or understand at all.

God is powerful and gentle, consuming and refining, polar opposites completely coinciding. we fear but approach knowing full well, that here justice and mery kiss in perfect harmony.

(hey that last thing i wrote kinda rhymes....ha.)

ps. its also about the gospel. we have blood on our hearts and hands because we are responsible for Christ's death. the just thing is that we die. but he took our punishment. now he offers mercy in the form of salvation. this mercy can suffice in the place of justice, because one perfect death was given

I think she's talking about Jesus' dying on the cross.

"Life he sacrificed
Someone who paid the price"

She's saying that where is the mercy and justice in his death because we're all guilty for it.

"Blood in our hearts
Blood on our hands"

And about his metaphorical war we're fighting over Religion. About how we're all fighting over what is "true" and tangible and what is faith and belief.

"We’re human, we reason, we’re breathing, protecting
The living and dying, surviving, we’re trying "

In a way she could be talking about the War in Iraq about it being a religious war and the horror of it.

And for all of the people that based the meaning of the song on the exact lyrics realize that no song has lyrics that mean exactly what they say. Lyrics are like allegory stories and have a symbolic level that is more important than their exact lines. Songs are poems. Just think about reading Shakespeare exactly word for word.
