This wasn't for you. This wasn't FOR anyone. It's simply a remoke of a classic. We held hands, we shared beds. She told her that we were lovers. Were we? But this wasn't for you really, what's the cat to do when the mouse is begging? ('02)

'areyouinorareyouout? youcan'twineitherway," he said,'butthefallwillbefantasticandwhat'sleftisnothinglessthanperfection."
(date unclear)

It's freezing, but it is the desert, what to do? maybe we'll see a body. Maybe we'll see a few. I shook, did you?

Please, sit down. May I offer you something? Anything you wish..NO NOTHING. IF YOU DON'T MIND, THIS WILL BE RECORDED...

They started far off...but they resound, as sharp as they sound. You can't mistake the sound. First the click, the the visible breath, both parting the bitting cold of the night. They came, they come in time....

Is there something I should know or have I just seen too much?

We were once together, now i'm simply surrounded.

They were perfect, they were beautiful. They met in the middle of of nowhere, in the middle of nothing, and kissed where everyone could see. No words. No before. No after. They kissed and it was perfect. it was beautiful. It was everything. It was nothing.

Eventually it all comes back to this. Eventually you have nothing else. Shame really. MAY I GET YOU SOMETHING? Give me anything.

I saw you in the picture you took with them when you were with him and I took you from it and kept you for myself. WAIT FLASH TAPE'S STILL ROLLING

The power went out. I turned on the radio. The power went out. I turned on the radio. The power went out. I turned on the radio.... I heard a voice

General Comment:If I do recall correctly, the 4th paragraph is from Interview with the Vampire.

Which is weird because their Sing the Sorrow album reminds me of that series.

General Comment:I actually think this album focused around an interview... Much like Interview With the Vampire. Most of the notes in DU are basically like quotes, some like someone would give in an interview. I think people are right about there being a character. But the idea of all the songs making up a story is wrong. It's a concept album not a rock opera. All the songs are somewhat about the same subjects and ideas.. they go together. There are no connections to sts as those songs are part of the sts concept and not DU. Now there may be similarites between songs, but that is just because the same band wrote all the songs. As bands do have their own unique writing styles (if they are any good). Also Davey once said in an interview that AFI evolves with each new record. So I think in that evolution as a band they had to look back on what was already done and go from there. But the album is focused around an interview..

General Comment:oh wow, i've been ducking under the radar on the omb for way too long. the cracked actor theory went over my head entirely until just now. i stopped paying attention to clandestine/5 flowers about midway each, and decided to drop them entirely once the person who actually had a decent suggestion was sought out to be fake (i think his name was 'timecode' or something).

moving along, the only stage death i can think of is the story of hamlet, and that obviously wasn't suicide.

my bets are on the "clues to the next big thing" idea. they usually do cheesey things like that, anyway-- 336, the missing frame in that spooky mummy video (WHICH, by the way, freaking pops up when you put i heard a voice in to the computer...scary stuff, i just got the chills)...they even reference their own songs in their songs. i say sit back and let it unfold, chances are there'll be an answer next album. :)

i definitely can relate to the first line.
when you're with someone romantically, it's like no matter where you are it's just the two of you, and that's all that matters. but when you're not it's like being crowded with people and faces that don't seem to matter.

i don't really want to comment on the second part of that quote, but i think it's absolutely amazing. the end. (:

    btw, hi swope. :D

General Comment:I read in this super secret website my brother showed me, a couple years ago.
It was about the 5 flowers, and sing the sorrow.

If sing he sorrow was about death after life
    [not life after death]

    Then maybe this is reversed?
Since sing he sorrow was all black and DU is pretty much all white...

General Comment:Well don;t forget, AFI's stories seldom start @ the beginning of the album
Sing the sorrow IMO starts @ the end, and ends @ the beginning

I dont have decemberunderground yet (pity me) so i wouldn't really know...

General Comment:That's wierd... I don't think ther're in right order in the booklet. The first one seems to go with the first track, but some, I think don't go with the songs. maybe they're just mixed up. The guys are making it hard for us to understand.

And CrisisAndRhythm, I believe it could be a concept album, but that theory just doesn't make sense to me at all. Why would the write about stuff like that? Oh, but I still think those things could be from old movies. I didn't even think of it, but now I think they definitely might be.

General Comment:Old movies? Maybe there's an old actor who commited suicide on stage?

General Comment:I've come to realize that nothing AFI does is ironic, or unintentional. So I've been trying to figure this one out too, and at first, I totally thought what you said natures_travesties. I even had a list which was (in their respective orders according to notes): Prelude 12/21, Summer Shudder, Miss Murder, The Interview, Love Like Winter, The Missing Frame, Affliction, Kiss And Control, The Killing Lights, 37mm & Endlessly, She Said.
But then I had some trouble matching the songs to the words, and it occured to me that they sounded like lines from really old movies (i watch them a lot >_
