Should I decide it’s true? That you might leave if given half the chance to go and I be left here on my own, to find myself in bed, wishing everything that changed would be the same.

Room still looks like you, it’s so nice and all the pictures on the shelf, dusted off by someone else, to keep me company, having told her that your thoughts still linger on.

Everyday is another chance to bury my regret. Everyday is another chance to make it, but I can’t, but I can’t, but I can’t.

I saw you on my phone, on a contact list that isn’t up to date, would’ve changed it with more time, I required to. In my mind with all the freckles on your face. I reconciled with you’re ring I bought you is buried deep within the ground, behind the swing where we first met, a memory on this earth to remind of all the bruises that you forgave.

Everyday is another chance to bury my regret. Everyday is another chance to make it, but I can’t, but I can’t, but I can’t.

Should I decide it’s true, to return if given half the chance to go? And it’s not true, but it’s not true.

Song Meaning:The opening verse is clearly about him not knowing if she would leave if she could. He wishes nothing would have came between them. Like a hookup that went wrong, that he regrets because he's afraid he used her.But he realizes that this girl is everywhere he is, including his room where everything took place. He's moved on, and he's with a new girl, but he is still thinking of the previous girl he shared the room with. The room looks exactly the same as it did then, and he dosen't even have the heart to change it."Everydays a chance to bury my regret, but I can't" is him saying as much as he wants to fix things with the first girl, he has no intention to because he has no idea how. He feels like he messed it all up and there's no way of making it better. "I saw you on a contact list that isn't update" is him saying he still has her number but yet he hasn't been in contact because he has no idea what to say. It's been to long. He's remembering the things he loved about her, physically and things they did together including where they met which is symbolizism. "Behind the swing where we first met" has a childlike apeal to it, which is the reason he can't forget her. She brought out a side of him he wants back, but he's to far from. Make sense? "All the bruises you forgave" is him ackowledging that he often didn't respect and treat her how she should have been, but how she always forgave him for hurting her. He would love to go back to this girl, but he dosen't know if she'll accept him back. And if after all this time , if letting go is the best option because of all the pain he's put her through. {Beautifully Written]

My Opinion:I agree with those who say this song is about a relationship that ended because the other person died.

I think the part about the bruises, though, isn't literal. The bruises are probably all the stuff he did that hurt her.

It's really sad. The regret and the denial. Makes the song so much more beautiful :)

General Comment:I'm gonna take it a step further

'THE BRUISES YOU FORGAVE...' There was physical abuse in the relationship-- probably the cause of her leaving and/or death?
''Everyday's another chance to bury my regret...'' He is clearly sorry. And the repeated use of the word 'BURY' and 'A memory on this EARTH' [Which she is no longer on] gives a hint that she is infact dead.

He is in a relationship ''Dusted off by someone else...'' He isn't disclosing who the someone else is, hesitant because he is clearly still inlove with his ex and thinks she can hear him when he speaks. He goes further 'to keep my company' almost like he shruggng off his current girlfriend as a friend.

I LOVE WILLIAM FITZSIMMONS!!! I NEED TO SEE HIM LIVE. LET ME KNOW WHEN HE IS IN CALIFORNIA!!! :)

General Comment:I feel like this song kind of hits you in a way you might not expect at first until you really give it a good listen.

I agree with jrlaffrey that this song is most likely about a relationship that's ended but reason is probably death.

Either way it's a beautiful song. Fitzsimmons is an amazing writer.

General Comment:ok so i kinda disagree with the whole ex-gf theory...i mean yes, the relationship is over...that's a given...but i'm leaning more toward the cause being death.
this is due to the fact that he is living with a memory. the first line of the song drove this point home for me. "Should I decide it’s true? That you might leave if given half the chance to go and I be left here on my own, to find myself in bed, wishing everything that changed would be the same." clearly, his memory is keeping her alive and he is in charge of the "decision" to keep her around. Also in the lines, "Room still looks like you, it’s a mess and all the pictures on the shelf, dusted off by someone else, to keep me company, having told her that your thoughts still linger on." only in a situation similar to a death would another woman respect and accept that their partner still has feelings for their previous lover.

just a hunch...who knows...just listen to the song with that concept in mind. there are several subtle hints that suggests that she has passed.
