Lyrics for A Cooler Version of Yourself as interpreted by stop jaywalking

A Cooler Version of Yourself Lyrics
A cooler version of yourself
A cooler version of your dad
A crueler version in my mind
I pull away when you're inside

I pull away when you're inside
I pull away when you're inside

So young
And drunk
And young
And drunk

I lie down here until I die
I lie down here until I die, oh

So sorry, for telling stories
I'm so young
And drunk
And young
And drunk

I didn't know it'd be so boring
I fall asleep when you're inside
I fall asleep when you're inside

So young
And drunk
And young
And drunk
I fall asleep when you're inside
I fall asleep when you're inside

A cooler version of myself
A cooler version of my dad
A crueler version in my mind
I pull away when you're inside

I pull away when you're inside
I pull away when you're inside
I pull away when you're inside
I pull away when you're insiiiiii-iiiiiiiiiiiide
-Ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide, -ide

So young
And drunk
So young
And drunk
So young
And drunk
So young
And drunk

wow....this is way out and i am in no way sure this is what this song is about but to me...it sounds like.....a young girl goes to a party gets drunk and does it for the first time....and its not what she expected and now in her mind shes cooler....somehow older....but that is just what i take from the song......any other thoughts?

envirohodges, by "does it" do you mean has sex? I couldn't really tell from the comment if you meant sex or getting drunk.

If you do, then I agree. She's gone to this party, gotten drunk, had sex, and now regrets it because it's nothing like she imagined it would be. When she says that she "pull[s] away while you're inside," she starts to remove herself from the situation and, also, I think, resents the guy. She distances herself from him.

I love the line when she says that she didn't know it would be so boring. And the snoring is fantastic.

I think the crueler version her dad is a hint at the consequences she faces when she comes home from this party, but that's not really as important to her, I think, than the fact that this "cooler version of herself" didn't live up to her expectations. The whole thing was just a big disappointment for her.

Er... I think the *guy* is supposed to be a cooler version of her dad... kind of like how many guys and girls seek mother/father figures in their partners.

I think that it could be used on anything! being young and drunk is really just not experienced in a subject and as you learn about it and explore it you become excited and start making discisions without really thinking of the concequense just like when your completly smashed :D but i do agree that the party scene would be very appropriat for this metaphore. she's so beautiful :D

I'm not sure if I think this is about a girl's first time when she gets drunk at a party. It sounds like the protagonist sought pleasure alone, a one-night stand maybe, got wasted, and slept with a guy who thinks he's a big shot. I think "a cooler version of your dad" means that he believes himself to be an infinitely better person than his dad--and then there's "a crueler version in my mind." She sees his father's worst in him, knows he's exactly what he tries to be the opposite of. Anyway, the protagonist obviously regrets her decision (and that regret is probably amplified by the fact that it was not anonymous sex she had; this man is a part of her life; she knows him well). This song could be just a tale of disappointing sex and unfulfilling experiences.

Or maybe it's just the protagonist's opinion of men in general. She's been jaded by so many of these empty relationships, and she thinks men are all the same, they all think they're so cool, she's bored with looking for love.

God this song is gorgeous. It actually makes me cry (and songs don't usually do that). She is really good, though, at diffusing a depressing situation by snoring in the middle of the song.

I thought the party scenario at first but now I think it's about a woman who's been married to a man for a long time. They could've been young and drunk when they met and that's how she fell in love with him and years later she lies down and just accepts the marital sex they have and retreats into her own mind and pulls away from him physically and mentally. Her husband is essentially cooler than his father, but he's also "crueler" which could imply he's got a dark side to him that she's found out over the years but she's made her bed and now she has to lie in it- hence "I lie down here until I die".
Maybe that's what it is. But the "so sorry for telling stories" bit is lost on me if that's what it was about.

I am going to take a stab at it.

Its about a girl daydreaming about a "Cooler Version of herself" who would spontaneously have sex with a boy she is attracted to who is a "Cooler Version of her dad" like Arafelis said. But instead of daydreaming sex as some great fantasy and epic achievement, like most virgins, she sees it as what it would most likely be; the crueler version in her mind. Two youngings, plenty of beer, and boring for her. The "lay down here until I die" is her commenting about the whole ordeal, sort of like being "if this is what I have to look forward to I might as well die".

i agree with everyone but wanna know what i think is kinda cool....

say

"a cooler version" out loud multiple times..

1- a cooler version..
2- a cool aversion.. (i like this one the best, aversion, strong hatred)
3- a cooler virgin...

its sweet that this phrase when mumbled sounds like one of these three and they all tie in (: i know that's just a coincidence but still.. a very cool coincidence (:
