I'm staring out into the night
Trying to hide the pain
I'm going to the place where love
And feeling good don't ever cost a thing
And the pain you feel is a different kind of pain

I'm going home
Back to the place where I belong
And where your love has always been enough for me
I'm not running from
No, I think you got me all wrong
I don't regret this life I chose for me
But these places and these faces are getting old
So I'm going home
Well, I'm going home

The miles are getting longer it seems
The closer I get to you
I've not always been the best man or friend for you
But your love remains true
And I don't know why
You always seem to give me another try

So I'm going home
Back to the place where I belong
And where your love has always been enough for me
I'm not running from
No, I think you got me all wrong
I don't regret this life I chose for me
But these places and these faces are getting old

Be careful what you wish for
'Cause you just might get it all
You just might get it all
And then some you don't want
Be careful what you wish for
'Cause you just might get it all
You just might get it all, yeah

Oh, well I'm going home
Back to the place where I belong
And where your love has always been enough for me
I'm not running from
No, I think you got me all wrong
I don't regret this life I chose for me
But these places and these faces are getting old
I said these places and these faces are getting old
So I'm going home, I'm going home

General Comment:To me, I look at the song as being about branching out and finding yourself. It doesn't matter what path you choose to go on in life, Home will always be where your family is.

General Comment:i've always loved this song since it came out but i was just listening to it again and it's totally a spiritual song - which makes it all the more awesome- it's like a song he's singing to himself and God - like a conversaton,"I don't regret this life You chose for me" -- "coming home" could elude to going back to the path God wanted him on -- pretty deep and univeral

    go chris daughtry!

General Comment:EDIT: People, seriously, this song isn't about relationships. Not EVERY song out there is about love or finding somebody. It's about just going home, hence the title.

My Interpretation:In my mind this song is purely about Chris Daughtry's life as a small-town guy making it big and reflecting on the joy of just being able to go home and get away from the glitz and glamour.

"Be careful what you wish for,
'Cause you just might get it all.
You just might get it all,
And then some you don't want.
Be careful what you wish for,
'Cause you just might get it all.
You just might get it all, yeah."

This sums up the song. Chris has always wanted to be a musician and play music for people who appreciate his work. With the success he gained from American Idol he achieved this, but along with the success and fame came "some he didn't want". It's hard to find a balance between playing music for the people who appreciate it and those who take your fame to the extreme and don't let you live your life.

Growing up in a small town in New Hampshire for twelve years I can definitely relate to this. I'm now living in New Jersey where the lifestyle is so much different. I literally went from living in a mountain valley town to being in a beach-side community where life is active around the clock. Whenever I get anywhere relatively CLOSE to New Hampshire I get a feeling of being refreshed and just "being home". It's something only people who have gone through a similar situation can explain and understand.

Great song. There's an awesome acoustic version here (no, it's not mine-- just found it): youtube.com/…

General Comment:My interpretation of this song is that he is going back to the girl that has always loved him. He's tried his best to go his own way, but finally realizes that the right person for him has been there all along.

I dont understand how you retards are getting god mixed into this. You really have to stretch things to involve god in here. And always doesn't mean eternal, to the idiot talking about eternal love just to try and involve a mythological being.

General Comment:I think this song is about a man who left his girl but later realized he miss her so he decided to come back to her...he hurt this girl many times but she love him and she always give him another chance...he feel security when he is with her that is why he feel like he is going home because she make him feel that way...she make him feel comfortable like at home...but at the same time he want let her know he might leave again cause he do not regret this life what he live (guess they live far from each other) She want him to stay and that is why he is saying be careful what u wish for cause u might get me and I'll never leave...I'm coming back to u where I belong.

General Comment:This is an amazing song. I would hear bits and pieces of it on the radio, and then one day finally got to listen to it all the way through. I think what makes it so amazing is that it can be interpreted in so many different ways. To any individual that listens to the lyrics, "home" can be a number of different things. I had thought that it was about him telling his feelings about his wife and home life, and then I also began seeing how it could relate to God. It just seems to me that it is really about striving to change yourself, only to realize what you needed you had all along. So many times we chase that pipe dream of a different life only to realize that it wasn't what we really wanted. I left Tennessee 10 years ago to pursue a job up north. I uprooted my family to come up here, and everything was good for awhile. Eventually, the job dried up and I ended up getting divorced. When I feel sorry for myself, I always look back on what I had down south. I didn't have the money and the good house and all of that, but I was unbelieveably happy. I never had high blood pressure, or ulcers.. or depression when I lived there. I had everything I ever needed, and was too blind to realize it. So I am ready to go "home". No matter what it takes, I'm going back down there. I can't spend the rest of my life wondering about it.. I just wanna go. Thanks Daughtry. Everytime I hear this song, it is inspiration to me to make that change.
