Lyrics for This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race as interpreted by woulduhvtheguts

This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics
I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words
And (don't really care which side wins)
As long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

I'm not a shoulder to cry on, but I digress

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

I wrote the gospel on giving up (and looking pretty sinking)
But the real bombshells have already sunk (primadonnas of the gutter)
At night we're painting your trash gold, while you sleep
Crashing not like hips or cars but more like p-p-p-parties

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

Bandwagon's full, please catch another

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

All the boys who the dancefloor didn't love, and all the girls whose lips couldn't move fast enough, sing, until your lungs give out

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Now You)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Wear Out The Groove)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Sing Out Loud)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Oh,oh)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

LD7: Panic! at the Disco sent a demo to Fall out boy and they liked it so they signed them up with Ramen Records. So I dont think FOB agrees with you on that one.
The sound is not the only thing that makes up a band. They are defined by their lyric style as well, and P!atD lyrically differs from FOB.
They are not copycats, they just come from the same music scene. I can tell P!atD and FOB apart the moment I hear them, always have been able too, so I dont understand how people say they sound identical.

hey guitar punk, i don't mean to sound like and ass and i'm not trying to be one, but i must say i disagree with you. fallout boy got signed to a big record label in the first place because the record label felt like they could both help the bands career and make a lot of money off their sound. although some labels want bands to have a specific sound, they don't go and force a band to change their sound. they signed the band in the first place because they knew the music would sell. but also, big record labels are not all bad. sure a lot of the reason they sign artists is to benefit themself, but in return it benefits the artist in so many ways. a band that signs to a big label essentially triples their publicity, they can sell out bigger venues, get their cds in more stores, and so forth. it's such a huge oppotunity for a band to sign to a major label. and another thing to consider is the band also wants to change their sound to fit what they view as where music is heading. and often they will consult their record label. i'm sorry if that came across harsh, but i really can't stand it when people shit on major record labels with a not so logical reason. and also, music isn't just about the fans. they chose to make a career out of this. so obviously it is really important to them to make the most money they can. it's selfish in a ways to say the band is doing it just for the money. the music industry is changing so fast that they need to evolve constantly. like it would be a bummer for them to make music JUST for the fans, and put their opportunity with a label on line. but seriously, they need to make money. it's their job, and more props to them for it. that being said, i don't particularly enjoy fallout boy :-P

cheers

pete wentz's enunciation is so bad, especially in this song, that you can barely understand a word he sings.

but this song is really catchy. as are most of FOB's single's. so, i like it. i do generally prefer p!atd to fob, though, randomly.

i like it a lot. i actually really liked the music video too, some of it was actually pretty funny. "All the boys who the dancefloor didn't love, and all the girls whose lips couldn't move fast enough, sing, until your lungs give out" i love that line...

I believe it's saying that the band provides you with ways to deal with your emotions ("I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words"). They're not trying to get attention ("this ain't a scene"), they're trying to allow you to express yourself ("it's a...arms race").

"the lies I weave are oh so intricate"
It sounds like he's saying the stories in their music aren't necessarily true, but are indeed an emotional, complex story.

"All the boys who the dance floor didn't love / And all the girls whose lips couldn't move fast enough / Sing until your lungs give out"
These are the people to whom he's providing "arms." These are the people who need to vent out, and he's trying to get them to do just that.

As for the stanza I left out, I have no idea what it means. I haven't put a lot of thought into it.

I do not know why FOB haters are even looking up FOB lyrics, but whatever. you dont need to come on here and trash fall out boy, you are supposed to write what you think the song means, not how much you hate them. not everybody likes the same music and I love FOB that is my opinion, so deal with it!

by watching the music video for this song i think that they are trying to tell people that they are not stuck up. they do not think that they are so much cooler than everyone. they are also trying to tell people that they dont go to crazy parties and hook up with girls. overcastkids.com My user name is mousey42

I personally love this song. But all you FOB 'fans' should listen to their lyrics like 'Dead On Arrival',
''...the songs you grow to like never stick at first...''
so i reckon just listen to it abit more and you may grow to like it, otherwise its one of those songs that you dont grow to like. hope this didnt sound mean/rude.

Melissa, are you really trying to say FOB's early music was "real punkrock music"?

Go listen to the Buzzcocks and the Clash, and get back to me, alright?

As for this song, it's by far the best thing this band has ever done, and it's certainly much less "poppy" than "Sugar" or "Dance Dance". I'm not a fan mostly of this band, but this song is truly good.

I mean, I'd say this song is more difficult than anything on last two albums to get into, with the almost hip hop-ish syncopated drum beats and the chorus being almost completely indecipherable without liberal usage of the lyric sheet. So what, it has some "woo hoo" harmonies? That makes a song shit? Amazing.

ok, I'm not about to read damn near 200 posts lol. but what I'm going to say is that f.o.b kinda disappointed me on this one... BUT this is supposed to be about what this song means to me.
its about the "scene" and how much it's changing.

the video fits is PERFECTLY! how the "scene" changed and then caught up with them...

eh- just my opinion.

I think that it is Pete trying to say that he isn't here for you guys to bash on, he's here for the business. He doesn't like that he's become the "Emo" leading man of all of society. And ya, at first, you can't understand what they are saying. BUt I think that's the point. So you'll wanna look it up and find places like this and get what it's about. It's a message for all of us!

This band thinks they are some kind of Rock band. I was flippin' through the channels and on MTV they were playin' some pop song and the guitarists were jumpin' around like they were in a rock band! At the end of the video I saw that it was FOB, so I was confused. Who considers these guys pop? who considers them rock? IMO they just suck whatever they are.

hmmm..

Bandwagon...
'Bandwagon's full, please catch another'

Please forgive me because I think this might just be another stab at TBS...

I mean. think about it....

"So don't act like you're the first one
I treat it like disease" -TBS
Adam has said that he hated the whole 'rockstar' thing
{reference to Pete Wentz maybe?[thus 'disease']}

then in this song you see :'Bandwagon's full, please catch another'
{if you catch my drift, this is a stab at TBS}[mayhaps}

Here's another one{from before}:
"boys like you are so overated, so save your breath" -FOB
FOB started with this^

TBS came back with this:
meaning{mayhaps} that FOB found out what it takes to become mainstream and so now they are 'in' instead of being left behind by the cynics...

and so yeah...

by the way, I love Fall Out Boy...because I usually listen to a song about 3 billion times then I go all analyical-crazy on it...

then I get out of that point...

so just maybe..eh?

Do you know what I mean?

I love Taking Back Sunday

This song is actually about the Austrian genocides that took place during the late 1850's against workers in the coal mining industry. It was a period of time known to most coal miners as the "wurstkreig" (literally: Sausage war) due to the fact that most of it's victims were ground into sausages and fed to the wild wildebeests of the Schwarzwald (Black Forest).
It began on April 23, 1857, when coal miner Wilhelm Blotminster made an offhand derogatory comment about the current foreman, Felix Haagndaas, to coworker Jurgen Trockenstiften. It was overheard by one of the pitbosses and reported to the foreman, who then killed and ground both men. When questioned about the murder, he explained that they had mocked him, and so the austrian courts decreed a nationwide elimination of all Coal Miners with beards.
The idea to grind them into sausages came about as a publicity stunt for a small towm bitcher who bought small quantities of the executed men's flesh and made various meat products with them. A governmental figure saw this one day and told the CMAB (coal Miner Assimilation Board) about it. The plan was an immediate success. However, there was so much superfluous sausage that it was eventually given to the famous Wildebeests of southern Germany.
However, an underground alliance (the U-Bahn) vowed to stop the killings through organized militance. They assassinated key figures in the genocides, such as the director Hans Vernuftig and undertaker/sausage grinder Stephan Kuchenistsehrgut. They single-handedly brought the genocides to a hault by shifting public attention to their arrest and capture.
An annonymous tip given to the police caused them to raid an entire city block searching for the fugitives. They eventually found their hideout on Osage Avenue, where they barricaded the doors, trained machine guns on any exits, and then burned the house down, killing all but 2 of the inhabitants.
On October 17, 1859, a day known as "Bluter Donnerstag" (literally: Bloody Thursday), The two surviving members of the U-Bahn were executed, and their graphic executions were broadcast over the then very advanced Austrian news networks. They had their eyes removed, their flesh peeled off and ground into sausage, and then had their bones compacted into the shapes of various religious deities and donated to the Austrian museum of Modern History.
The song here was an obvious allusion to these events. Anyone who can't see that must be a fucking retard.

everybody needs to chill out. they dont hate their fans or anything and this isnt for their manager either. they are trying to broaden their sound and hopefully touch other fans with their music. they want to be able to send a message to as many people as possible before this world becomes ignorant of music. everybody takes it for granted. maybe yo guys dont. but people out there like music for whats on the surface. they dont know the background of bands or the depths of their songs, they just like what they hear on the radio. and im sure they aren't trying to make a song where people can dance to. they just want a song that people can relate to. and a lot of people can relate to this style of music. its catchy. thats the first step. the second step is to understand the band. they are lurring people in to their style. any true fan of fall out boy wouldnt say that they are selling out, and being fake and shit. the fans mean the most to them, so whats wrong with grabbing some more fans and saving them from shitty music while they can? this might not be your favorite song, but its not shitty. its a good song. just accept it. maybe when the album comes out you guys will stop being judge mental and enjoy the music for what its worth like TTTYG and FUTCT. its the same band writing the same music they love. they wouldnt write a song if they hated it.
