Lyrics for This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race as interpreted by woulduhvtheguts

This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics
I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words
And (don't really care which side wins)
As long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

I'm not a shoulder to cry on, but I digress

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

I wrote the gospel on giving up (and looking pretty sinking)
But the real bombshells have already sunk (primadonnas of the gutter)
At night we're painting your trash gold, while you sleep
Crashing not like hips or cars but more like p-p-p-parties

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

Bandwagon's full, please catch another

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

All the boys who the dancefloor didn't love, and all the girls whose lips couldn't move fast enough, sing, until your lungs give out

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Now You)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Wear Out The Groove)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Sing Out Loud)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Oh,oh)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

pete wentz is just pissed about the shit he got for his penis pics that are all over the internet. now he's on this self-rightous crusade against 'fake' scenesters.

This is the first Fall Out Boy song I've ever heard, and I love it. I'm not a fan of pop OR punk, so that I liked this song suprised me. The lyrics, while a bit cliched, yes, are quite clever in their disdain for the "MTV generation", while both the lyrics and the music are catchy enough to catch the very audience it's taking a jab at. Whatever "scene" you're into, be original and not a poser--but either way, the band's still going to be there & doing what they do best, I think is the point.

And as far as pop/punk is concerned, like I said before, I'm not a big fan of either genre, but if they can put out music that the pop crowd can put on their radios and iPods while still appealing to their core audience, I say go for it! Have you guys HEARD the crap on the radio these days?!?

I'm tired of hearing the same damn 5 songs played on the radio over and over and over and over and over and over and ZZZzzzzz...if bands like FOB can keep me from drowning in bubblegum pop schluck every time I turn on the damn radio, I'm all for it!

I don't understand why anyone wastes their time commenting on how horrible a band is. why even go through all the effort? I don't set aside time in my day to go dis peoples favorite bands on this site, so why should anyone? it's pointless to me. we like Fall Out Boy, is that a crime? I don't like rap but I don't go around saying how much I hate a certain person. so just keep it to yourselves none of us want to hear it.

P.S. I love this song. I don't care if it makes me a scene kid or an mtv kid, I like it. and that's all that matters, you shouldn't like a song just cause mtv tells you to. like it because you choose to. I've liked Fall Out Boy for a long time and I'll like them for a long time to come, and I don't care how many disses I get because of it, it's because of the music.

I'm glad you love/hate the song. if you dont like them. dont listen to the song/band. its not that hard. but I really dont care what your opinion is right now! what the hell does it mean???? is it like saying how the music scene isnt a cultural thing but instead a race to see who can make the most money and get to the top fastest and be the best?

this song sounds a lot like the book Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk. apparently they like to get their lyrics from his books just like their friends panic! at the disco.

I have to disagree with everyone else who said that Fall Out Boy was trying something different. The only part that sounds remotely different from the rest of their (really horrible made) songs, is the first verse. ONLY that one verse.

Oh, and PS to whomever said it was a PatD ripoff, haha, this makes me laugh. Fall Out Boy came before Panic! did, and Pete Wentz founded Panic! At the Disco.

The video relates to how the tabloids have trashed talked them in the past year or so. A big part of it is Pete Wentz's incident with the cell phone photos of his privates that he was emailing to girls (allegedly) and just other news-worthy trash-talking.

It seems like the arms race would be who can gather as much dirt on someone else and use that as "ammo." (Instead of focusing on the progression of punk/pop music scenes.

To me, the title pretty much sums up the meaning of the song. But I'll go verse by verse:
"I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words
And (don't really care which side wins)
As long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

I'm not a shoulder to cry on, but I digress"
- He just writes down what he feels, it's not his fault how people interpret or use them, so why care? He's in it because he gets off on the crowd singing along, so don't come to him with problems.

"I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate"
- There's a chance that not everything he writes is the truth. Pete can sometimes be... well... overdramatic, to say the least, so some things may have been embellished.

"I wrote the gospel on giving up (and looking pretty sinking)
But the real bombshells have already sunk (primadonnas of the gutter)
At night we're painting your trash gold, while you sleep
Crashing not like hips or cars but more like p-p-p-parties"

- I actually think the line says "But the real bombshells have already SUNG," which, to me, makes more sense because I feel this verse is trying to get across that the "real" emo scene died long ago, so everyone who's hopping on now is too late. Then there's "Bandwagon's full, please catch another," which means since all these kids have hopped onto this monster that's been created, anyone else who wants in just needs to find something else.

"All the boys who the dancefloor didn't love, and all the girls whose lips couldn't move fast enough, sing, until your lungs give out"

- Basically, it's a shout out to the scene kids. More than anyone else, this song is really for them.

I'm ashamed. This song is fucking catchy.
still, Peter Wentz is a slut who stole Ice-mans girl.
I noticed they want to desperately be MCR.
That'll never happen.
Next time you be the bait.

The first verse of the song some how makes me think of the battle between rap and bands cause everyone is either on the hip hop side or punk, emo, rock...ect side. Some people are both however and when it says don't really cared what side your on (it's just the buisness) thats what I think it's kinda saying. Thats theres always gonna be competition. So you can be with fob or not!
I think it's also about lying and be fake in a sense too.

First of all people don't know what they're talking about when they day Fall Out Boy sucks....they say that FOB changed from when they first started, in that case....name one who hasn't. From the moment people jump on your bandwagon you begin to change to worse or better, in this case FOB takes a poke at all of you who say they have changed for the worse. FOB is the only band who still has the same elements from songs of their first album or previous. FIRST, The chorus is still fast, SECOND they have spoken words "All the Boys who the dance floor didn't love, and all the girls who's lips couldn't move fast enough", THIRD They still have a group of people chanting in their songs - The last chant of "This Ain't a scene, Its a goddamn arms race" like in "The World's Not Waiting (For Five Tired Boys And A Broken Down Van)" and "Homesick at Spacecamp," And finally They have their perfect timed pick slide! They are great and if you don't like them cause you don't understand them you have 2 choices, A. READ THE LYRICS and understand the song, or B. Be Dumb and continue to be ignorant to greatness!

I really like this song. It's a little different from their other songs, yet it still has that FOB 'thing' to it. They tried something new and different, and to me, it was great. =]
