Lyrics for This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race as interpreted by woulduhvtheguts

This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics
I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words
And (don't really care which side wins)
As long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

I'm not a shoulder to cry on, but I digress

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

I wrote the gospel on giving up (and looking pretty sinking)
But the real bombshells have already sunk (primadonnas of the gutter)
At night we're painting your trash gold, while you sleep
Crashing not like hips or cars but more like p-p-p-parties

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

Bandwagon's full, please catch another

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

All the boys who the dancefloor didn't love, and all the girls whose lips couldn't move fast enough, sing, until your lungs give out

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Now You)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Wear Out The Groove)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Sing Out Loud)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Oh,oh)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

Why do people hate the fact that Fall Out Boy went mainstream SO MUCH? I'll bet that the reason half of the people who come on here and say they suck, is because of the mainstream thing. But really, what's the point. Why hate them just because they realized that they can do what they love and support themselves in the process? Maybe they'd like to be able to buy their parents new houses, or get themselves something nice. Maybe they'd like to know that when they get old and gray they won't have to worry about money. Maybe they like being artist, and just because they aren't struggling or starving or trying to keep everyone who isn't "worthy" form hearing their music doesn't make them a bad band, it makes them a smart one. If it was never about the music, or if it wasn't about the music still, then they wouldn't even have strated or still be putting out records. Do you know how much money they made from UTCT? And endorsments, Ads , and whatnot? Plus not to mention all the side companies and such.

This song is different.
It's interesting. I'm looking forward to the new CD.

Fall Out Boy is great at making fun of themselves.

The music is meant to be catchy and poppy, but at least it should be understandable.

There's a difference between reinventing yourself, and completely abandoning your starting point.

Look at bands like Brand New, or Guster, or Death Cab For Cutie. They never sound exactly the same with each album, but they improve themselves and take reasonable risks to the point where they're even better than before.

FOB has just gone downhill after Take This To Your Grave, and it's just plain sickening.

"This band wagon's full, please catch another."

Yeah, they jumped on the completely crap-pop bandwagon, already knowing that it's full, but knowing they'll make a shitload of money because 12 year olds eat up everything MTV gives them.

I think they made it a "dance club" worthy song for a reason... that way the people they were making fun of wouldn't realize that they were singing a song that was made to ridicule people like them...

My interpretation from beginning to end:
Even though FOB and other artists may get into these arguments and stuff, as long as people listen to their music (and of course, they make money off of them) they don't really care... But the "emo-scene" really isn't a scene, it's more of a race to the top, to see who can get to #1 and make more money... but this "emo-scene" bandwagon is so ridiculous that ppl should stop pretending to be true emo-fans even when they're not... and the last part, is more of a visual thing that relates back to the video... In the last part, you'll see that they go back to before FUCT came out and the fans at the shows are the real FOB fans, they know the lyrics to the song... but if you look on Youtube.com for one of those Pete Wentz TRL interview thingies (he has chunked-red hair) you'll see that the ppl who say they're FOB fans, don't even know the lyrics to "Dance, Dance" like most of the real FOB fans (like me) do...

Actually, it very well is a Pop/Justin Timberlake song, perfect for dance club hit shits.

Then again, that might have been their whole idea.

And no, it is not the same. They'll never go back to the EOWYG style, because that obviously didn't get them big.

I don't think that the song is bashing their own fans, I think it is bashing the whole music industry at the moment.

The arms race is the relentless battle to be top of the charts and have the most money.

I like the song myself and I dont think after the beginning it is that different to other music by them.

Also, the people who think: "Oh, MTV people are listening to it, they're selling out."

Who cares if MTV people like it?
If you like the song.

Listen to it. Don't change your opinion based on other peoples views.

Cause if you see yourself as a diehard fan and feel peeved at the new audience they are getting. Live with it. As long as you know you are a real fan.

FOB didn't abandon thier songs, thier just expanding.

Thats what this song is about, and all any of you people can talk about is how much you hate them or adore them.

"I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words
And (don't really care which side wins)
As long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in"
An arms dealer will supply weapons to different people, and they don't care which side wins. What they're is trying to say here is thier words, A.K.A, lyrics, are thier weapon.
His songs need to please everyone, and p.s. who cares.\
Who cares if they do one song you don't like.

I, personally, love this song. It isn't abandoning they're style
Read the lyrics, they're still deep and fun to dance to.

So deal with it.

This song pretty much just is Fall Out Boy telling everybody "screw you guys!" they hate how everybody puts labels on things calling them "pop" and stuff like that. No, it isn't what were are used to hearing from Fall Out Boy. Things change even "Carpel Tunnel Of Love" is different than normal.

I think that means they don't really care if u like their songs, as long as they make money off of it, thats the business they are in.

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
I think that they mean that they don't care anymore about the scene and where they came from. They just want to make it to the top first and do well.

Thats what i think.
i could be totally off tho

I love fob. im happy they were on TRL and that. im proud of them! i no its different, but who said differents bad?

i love their music video!
its so funny!

Well it's seems to me the only ones commenting on this page IS a bunch a scenes. You say you like the old Fall Out Boy better well then keep listening to it the old stuff because it seems to me that they don't care what you guys want they are making music like they want too. So get a life and face it Fall Out Boy is big people like them. I'm sorry you think you are the only one in th world but your not. Maybe someday you can kidnap Fall Out Boy and bring them someplace where no likes them so you can have them all to yourself. Get a life people and just leave these poor men alone because they are just trying to make it in this world like everyone else,.

Ahh you all amuse me so much. All this talk about "ZOMG THEY SOLD OUT!1" cracks me up. Lecturing to people what's real punk or not, is really just about as pathetic as others thinking that Fall Out Boy is real punk. Honestly, it's not real punk music. It's more of a pop-punk sound. "Gateway Punk" mind you. I mean honestly, this is the kind of music that gets people to START listening to the real stuff. Fall Out Boy. Green Day(their early stuff is real punk...now they're in this Gateway Zone). Blink 182. Angels and Airwaves. you get the point. These are the guys in the mainstream. Their stuff gets on the radio. Kids listen. Then through these artists and some willing friends/others, they get into the other stuff. The pure punk stuff. You know, like Black Flag, The Clash(my favorite, btw), Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, etc. It's Gateway Punk. Nothign wrong w/ being the Guardians to Awesome. Hell I appreciate it.

Personally, I like this song. It's pop w/ a punky edge. Not real punk, but gets you singing and listening. Just because they have some mainstream success doesn't mean it's a bad thing. It can be a good thing for the punk movement. We were all once those ignorant dumbasses who thought that Blink 182 was real punk. We grow. This stuff helps. And honestly. Just like it for face value.

Of course I'm someone who likes all different types of music for what they are. I prefer listening to 60's music, to be honest.

I don't think it really matters what genre of music you'd classify this as. Everyone has their own opinion of what's what anyway. Fact is, it's a catchy song, very well-written (as are all FOB songs), and it's not just a bunch of crap. It DOES have meaning. Don't take it out on the band if you can't find that meaning. They're still FOB. They haven't changed all that much.

"I wrote the gospel on giving up (and looking pretty sinking),"
Pete's amazing. It's like he's in our heads. They're fitting us with weapons, people.

"At night we're painting your trash gold while you sleep,"
They're one step ahead of anything and everything we have to say. They take it and turn it around and make it work for them.

Anyway, this is supposed to be about THIS song. Don't diss the band 'cause you don't like THIS song.

Wow, okay sorry but I had to correct someone. Dude, Fall out Boy is not PUNK ROCK. Fall Out Boy is the shitz that real PUNK/PUNKROCK bands spit on and sigh about what a bad imitation and name there giving them through the radio waves. This is not Punk Rock. This is Pop Punk. Although, Fall out boy does very well in Pop punk, I have nothing against pop punk, pop punk has good music but it urks me to hell when people think they are Punk Rockers cause they listen to GD fall out boy.
Think you can handle Punk rock?
Listen to The Distillers or The Gits. That, my friend, is punk rock.
Thank you.

-sighs- this will always happen, eh? i think some people need to realise that this is just a song.

(and why is GAY an insult, now? One doesn't understand why homosexuality is so terrible.)

i really like this song, personally. it's got a fab beat, the same amazing tone of FOB's more dancey songs - brilliant.

if FOB has sold out or lost anything from their music during their career, it doesn't matter. compared to other bands, they'll always be the best in my book.

plus - dude. JUST A SONG. not a definition of status.

I don't get how this is a club song. Maybe it's just the fact that I don't go clubbing or whatever. It's definitely radio-friendly and catchy. I think the reason FOB is so popular is they're more exciting and original than a lot of the crap that's out there.

I always get made fun of for liking FOB, but screw it, they're awesome.

Best part in the video is Pete's photo shoot "striptease" lol.

for everyone who is saying that the meaning is that they hate their fans.. sorry but i realllllly think your wrong.. i think they dont like the people jumping on the bandwaggon who arent there true fans..they dont care where u heard of them from even if it is through mtv.. why would they go on trl than? also why are they only doing small clubs for their new tour? for their fans, exactly. than how could anyone say the fob hates their fans? especially since they worked so hard to get a fanbase ..anyone with a brain knows saying that would destroy any band
