Lyrics for This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race as interpreted by woulduhvtheguts

This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics
I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words
And (don't really care which side wins)
As long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

I'm not a shoulder to cry on, but I digress

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

I wrote the gospel on giving up (and looking pretty sinking)
But the real bombshells have already sunk (primadonnas of the gutter)
At night we're painting your trash gold, while you sleep
Crashing not like hips or cars but more like p-p-p-parties

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

Bandwagon's full, please catch another

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

All the boys who the dancefloor didn't love, and all the girls whose lips couldn't move fast enough, sing, until your lungs give out

This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Now You)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Wear Out The Groove)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Sing Out Loud)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race
(Oh,oh)
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamn arms race

I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm the leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate

Really hated it at first. Listened a few more times, and honestly, I still hate the intro, but the rest of the song is entertaining, and thus achieves it's purpose. FOB never were, and never will be crazy, intricate writers in bands like Radiohead and Coheed and Cambria, but at least they don't pretend to be. Simple, catchy, and a good first song from an album which is going to be well and truly anticipated like hell.

okay, how about this:

this whole song is fall out boys way of saying fuck you to allll you guys that posted before me giving them crap for being famous.

People think that they 'gave up,' but they really didn't. their really just the diamonds in the gutter, and theyre painting our trash (or pop music) gold by turning pop music into something that's actually worth listening to.

if pete really said that this is the most important song, even if its not the best, then i think this makes a lot of sense.

"I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words
And (don't really care which side wins)
As long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in"
- i think that in this first verse, hes saying that he's giving everyone the opportunity to get mad because of his new songs, etc. but he really doesn't care.

"All the boys who the dancefloor didn't love, and all the girls whose lips couldn't move fast enough, sing, until your lungs give out"
- this is like further proof that they DIDNT give up - just because theyre on the radio it doesn't mean that only 'poppy' type people can listen to them.

'i'm the leading man' because fob was pretty much the first band of this kind to get on the radio. and hthe lies are intricate, because theyre realy trying to change pop instead of conforming to it.

maybe they had to make this song a little more poppy than usual to make sure that people actually listen to it, because they want this message out there.

i'll admit that ive liked fob for a whille and when they first came on the radio i did start to like them a laittle less, but then i realized that its about the music, NOT about the scene ..

To be honest, I couldn't stand it at first. It does sound different from their older stuff, but after listening to it a few more times...I sort of like the change. I'm anxious to see how the rest of the album'll sound.

don't get me wrong, i love fall out boy, and im all for them trying to try something a [little] differnt. But the lead singer has such an amazing voice, but he doesnt really show it off enough in the song. its a catchy tune, im not going to keep the song on repeat over and over again like their old stuff.

i find it somewhat odd that the lyrics are meant how he hates how people jumped on the bandwagon, about how he hates the newer fans, the MTV crowd or whatever you want to call it...

but thats who the song appeals too... it doesnt appeal to the ones that have take this to your grave or an evening out with your girlfriend. (why? listen to an evening out with your girlfriend and you'll understand) FOB has come a long way, making their music more appealing than it started out as.

and i do agree that this song would be heard in a club, it seems that FOB is trying to make their fan base larger, even though they trash it.

i dont think that is right

This is the worst song FOB has ever written and released. It is loaded with tired cliches... loading someone with words as weapons? Heard it before. Asking the 'forgotten' boys and girls to scream until their lungs give? Heard it before. As a huge FOB fan, I'm truly saddened by this awful song.

Not only are the lyrics ridiculously cliche and stupid, but the whole song as a concept is stupid. Brashnhopeful got it exactly right... this song is battling the kids who come onto the MTV punk scene, but a song written like this with lyrics like this will be played in clubs and on MTV for months. And these fuckin' kids that just listen to it because it's different won't listen to the lyrics. They'll hear 'scream until your lungs give' and think 'WOW these guys make me want to dance' and it's pathetic.

I hate this song. I hate what FOB has become. It's pathetic.

Ok how about this. how about we talk about what this song means and stop bashing it since we are at song MEANINGS.net not personal opinions about songs.net.

personally i think this song is talking about the scene. im not sure whether its pop/punk or the rap scene. but i also think theres something more to this song that im missing.
What do you think?

well, personally, i believe fob is quoting from all the criticism they have gotton about their music, and their telling you in the song what people will say about them.

"I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words
And (don't really care which side wins)
As long as the room keeps singing that's just the business I'm in"

pete's mocking himself giving up, and saying its just for the money.
he obviously has more class than that,
since he has been in the "scene" ever since it got big, and its probably just a big joke to the whole band because theyll sell out and all these mainstream kids will be belting out the words that insult the kids themself. ahah

i think its clever,
but im no so sure about the beat yet...

I really dont like FOB, but I heard this on the radio. When they said ""boys like you are overrated. so save your breath." in one of their songs, it was a stab at Taking Back Sunday. TBS then parleed with their new song "spin" which is now parleed by this.

i really love Patricks voise in this song. i love how its all like raspy in the beginning and then he goes into the regular voice...AMAZING!...as for what this song is about...I think its just a big fuck you song to all of the 14 year old kids who are acting all scene b/c its the cool thing to do...i honestly don't think that they secretly hate all of their fans b/c then how would they have a career?...i just think they hate the "fans" who only like them b/c they're whats hot right now

Just so you know, it's not cool to act like you're "scene" in terms of Fall Out Boy. Period.

I think this song was the best thing that's come out of fall out boy since hand of god.

Eff you, haters

Seriously. If you don't like fall out boy, don't freaking comment about the song.

I think this song goes out to those 12 year olds that go to shows and get their asses kicked.

This whole 'scene' bull is an arm's race. Pete's words are so clear, and if half of you knew the shit he's gone through, you'd CLEARLY understand this song.

wtf? I could've sworn i posted a comment that was on the first page...? Well, anyway, I'm not as much a fallout boy as I used to be, but this song isn't half as bad as some people are making it out to be. I just want people to stop complaining that Fallout Boy has gone pop, because, if it hasn't hit you, Fallout Boy is a pop/punk band (why does using 'fallout boy' and 'punk' in the same sentence leave a bad taste in my mouth?), so they have the right to make poppy songs. It ticks me off that lots of people are gonna listen to this song for the sake of it's cathiness, but at the same time, i think the lyrics are making fun of all those people, so there's a little bit of redemption there.

Some of the responses are absolutely ridiculous. What happened to just liking a song because you like the song? Am I not allowed to enjoy a song or a band anymore without being labeled by a certain stereotype, or god forbit, "scene". God what a joke.

I for one have been a FOB fan from Evening Out With Your Girl through From Under The Cork Tree. I have lost some respect for FOB. They are still my favorite band but I'm not sure about Infinity On High. I just read a rolling stones blog and it said that although titles are subject 2 change, "Car Crash Hearts" (featuring Jay-Z) (does this sound like hmm I don't know linkin park) is supposedly the 1st song on the album and I Liked You a Whole Lot Better Before You Became a Fucking MySpace Whore"
is another title. "I have not heard the lyrics but how is this not cliche?" A quote from Pete on rolling stones blog "The lyrics, which include the line “Bandwagon’s gone, please find another,” express Wentz’s frustration at being king of the ever-growing emo scene. “There may be other songs on the record that would be bigger radio hits, but this one had the right message,” says Wentz, adding that the song-closing sing-along was inspired by Justin Timberlake’s “Seńorita.” I don't know what will come of this new cd but TRUE FOB fans could at least listen 2 this new cd. I know I'll Try....

i agree, I have been a fan since Evening Out with Your Girl and i have began to slightly lose interest. I liked FOB for the lyrics, and it disgusts me that people think they're true fans just because they heard Sugar on the radio. they were much cooler before Under the Cork tree, in fact, i like Take This To Your Grave much better than Under the Cork Tree.
i think this song is about how the scene has started to change, to shift focus. and about how there are fans out there who are just following the bandwagon, so to speak. i'm not going to say its the 14 year old scene kids, i'm more going to point the finger at the mtv crowds who only like them because mtv has told them to.
Pete is right, this song does have the right message. but the sad thing is, the people that its written towards won't get it.

Now, I would much rather talk discuss the true meaning of a song instead of criticizing it, but the morality of our impressionable youth is at stake, much more than Wentz' live pro-homosexual fiasco:

How can a band with so much influence use the Lord's name in vain so liberally? This song's high production value has such a catchy hook, and it is wasted on associating God with guns and violence. Now, after G------ repeatedly on the radio, I wonder if the arms they are dealing are not a just stab at over-zealous scene kids, but a wholehearted subversive plot to corrupt our youth.

Motherfucking sucking shit, bitch...what the fuck are they fucking thinking? I can't fucking get this fucking song out of my fucking head. Its evil! I tell you! The fucking Devil!

Hmmmmmm I always liked FOB cos they had a distinguishable sound and whats wrong with trying something different. There's R n Bish bits to it and then classic FOb style. Lyrics are still typical Pete I'd say so ya thats cool and I don't mind the melody but this is pretty much a good song but I like Carpal tunnel Of LOve waaaaay better
