We take sour sips
From life's lush lips
And we shake, shake, shake the hips
In relationships
Stop by this disaster town
You'll put your eyes to the sun, and say "I know"
You're only blinding to keep back what the clouds are hiding
And we might have started singing just a little soon
We're throwing the stones in a glass room

Whoa, ah, oh
We're so miserable and stunning
Whoa, love songs for the genuinely cunning
Whoa, ah, oh

We keep the beat
With your blistered feet
We bullet the words at the mockingbirds, singing
Slept through the weekend and we were dreaming
Of sinking with the melody of the kiss of eternity
Got postcards from my former self, saying "how you been?"

We might have said goodbyes just a little soon
(Somehow this disaster town)
Whoa, ah, oh
Robbing lips and banks under this room

Whoa, ah, oh
We're so miserable and stunning
Whoa, love songs far from the genuine becoming
Whoa, ah, oh
We're so miserable and stunning
Whoa, love songs far from the genuine becoming

Ah, ah, ah, oh, oh, oh, oh

It was ice-cream headaches and sweet avalanche
When the pearls in our shells came out to dance
You call me a bad tripper of the cradle
But my tired yawns for fawns on hunters lawns
We're the has-beens of husbands
Sharpening the knives of young wives
Take two years, and call me when you're better
Take teardrops of mine; find yourself wetter

Whoa, ah, oh
We're so miserable and stunning
Whoa, love songs far from the genuine becoming
Whoa, ah, oh
We're so miserable and stunning
Whoa, love songs far from the genuine becoming
Whoa, ah, oh

My Interpretation:I always thought this song was about all the wrongs we do in our lives, I'm probably wrong but this is how I feel about the song:

"We take sour sips from life's lush lips"- Of all the good things we could do, we choose to do the bad things.

"And we shake, shake, shake the hips in relationships"- Take out hips from relationships and you have relations (sex). Three shakes (of a lambs tail means a really short period of time) meaning most people's relationships are short and only about sex, not love.

"Stomp out this disaster town,"- We need to stop the bad things we continue to do

"You'll put your eyes to the sun, and say "I know You're only blinding to keep back what the clouds are hiding""- Many people put on a facade to hide their true colors.

"And we might have started singing just a little soon, we're throwing the stones at a glass moon"- Saying people act without thinking.

"We're so miserable and stunning,"- People are truly sad but put on a happy facade which is much more attractive.

"Love songs for the genuinely cunning"- People only get the true meaning out of certain things if they analyze and truly look into them

"We keep the beat, with your blistered feet"- People get stuck in a rut, causing them to become tired and jaded.

"We bullet the words at the mockingbirds singing"- When we are told the truth from the people who are innocent and truly care, we get angry at them for no reason.

"Slept through the weekend and we were dreaming Of sinking with the melody off the cliffs of eternity"- We tend to just dream of where we are going to end up, but don't really take action.

"Got postcards from my former self saying "How've you been?""- Everyone changes and we rarely realize it.

"We might've said goodbyes just a little soon"- We tend to cut things off to early and without thinking things through.

"Robbing lips, kissing banks, under this moon"- Our lives are based on materialism and lust.

"It was ice cream headaches and sweet avalanche"- Like getting brain freeze from too much ice cream, too much of a good thing can lead to something bad.

"When the pearls in our shells got up to dance, you called me a bad tipper of the cradle"- Back to the facade theme again, we're afraid when people see our true colors, they won't like us for who we actually are.

"But I'm tired yawns for fawns on hunters lawns."- We give in to temptation too easily in the worst situations.

"We're the has-beens of husbands- sharpening the knives of young wives"- We never know when to give up, causing people to hate us.

"Take two years and call me when you're better..."- We give up on certain people and only care when it's convenient for us.

"Take tears of mine find your self wetter"- We get off on seeing other people's failure or misery.

General Comment:I've seen Wes Eisold's book and it says "fork-tongued and genuinely cunning" so I would guess that it's not "love songs for the genuinely cunning."

General Comment:A great song to analyze.

I feel the overall meaning is a relationship that two try to make work even though it's a relationship that will fail because it is based off of lust rather than love. Yet, the song mocks this idea by its trendy frenzy catchy beat.

Right from the start we hear "we take sour sips from life's lush lips" indicating a "sour" relationship, in other words, one that isn't working. The "lush" lips indicates that the relationship is based off of lust of lips (or the taste) rather than actual true love.

"And we shake shake shake the hips in relationships" I believe indicates the two lovers trying to "shake" off all the doubts hoping that the relationship will get better.

"Stop by this disaster town and you'll put your eyes to the sun and say 'I know'" indicates that the relationship is a "disaster" and the two involved know about it, though they stare at the sun, hoping for a better relationship even though they know it won't happen. This again indicates the phrase "You're only blinding to keep back what the clouds are hiding."

"And we have started singing just a little soon, we're throwing stones in a glass room (moon)" indicates that the relationship has gotten farther than it should have gotten, causing it to become chaotic (chaos is also referenced by the random lyrics and upbeat of the song).

"We're so miserable and stunning" is an ironic line because the song is really upbeat when it says this, and it comes off as an oxymoron (miserably stunning). Basically the lyrics read the irony of the relationship which is beautifully miserable (thus the upbeat), which indicates that they aren't happy about the relationship but they are happy to try to make the relationship fail, despite it not actually working at all. Reminds me of a teenaged relationship for the sake of having a relationship.

"Genuinely cunning" is another oxymoron-like phrase indicating that the two lovers are both genuine to each other because both in the relationship try to make the relationship work without telling the other about how badly it is going, even though in retrospect their slyness is represented by their dislike of the relationship in which they fail to tell the other about.

"We keep the beat with blistered feet"- they try to make it work even though deep down inside it doesn't

"We bullet the words at the mockingbirds"- A metaphor for breaking the rhythm of a relationship, much like how shooting a mockingbird breaks the mockingbird's song and innocence (as in the book To Kill A Mockingbird).

Overall, this song features several oxymorons which are put together to explain a relationship on a pendulum. The relationship is overall negative, but the lovers try to stay positive and hide the negatives so that it looks like they love each other (with the catchy beats, and positive words) when in reality they hate the relationship deep down inside. Both lovers try to ignore the facts about the relationship failing and try to make things work, thus there is a forced balance, as you see in the oxymorons.

General Comment:i'm pretty sure it's "got postcards from my former self" and "robbing lips and kissing banks"

robbing lips and kissing banks, it's like the reversal of the two words from two different phrases in a way that it still makes sense. Just like in Sugar We're Goin Down: "Drop a heart, break a name"

in this song, that line is about how they're making money off of songs about girls :)

General Comment:tbh, i think this is probably their best song overall :)
i love the lyrics (even though I don't have a clue what they mean) and I don't listen to much screamo stuff but tbh the screaming just sounds amazing :)
i love how it's so much more rock than pop, i mean, in comparison to their latest album "folie a deux".
    but...
i have a correction (and it is correct 'cause it says so in the album booklet)
We might've said goodbyes just a little soon
    (Stomp out this disaster town)
Robbing lips, Kissing banks under this moon

the first line is correct, but the second line is "Stop by this disaster town" so that one's not too wrong but the last line is totally wrong!
it should be "our beliefs kissing beats all over this room"

anyway, tbh this song is amazing :)

General Comment:It was dissapointing to find out this entire song is plagiarized. This and "Golden" were written by Wes Eisold.

General Comment:i think they want to talk about the moment when a relationship got stuck in something and there's nothing more than pain, cause the carpal tunnel syndrome makes your hand numb and feel pain so if you're talking bout love and the carpal tunnel you must be talking about "A relationship that got stuck in soemthing and all that's left is pain" haha kinda confusing but that's what i got from the tittle !! xD
