Lyrics for Archers as interpreted by bnjared

Archers Lyrics
Who do you carry that torch for, my young man?
Do you believe in anything?
Or do you carry it around just to burn things down?

Meet me tonight on the turnpike my darling,
where we believe in everything.
If we sweat all these debts then we're sure to drown,
so let's strap ourselves up to this engine now
with our God who we found laying under the back seat.

What did you learn tonight?
while shouting so loud, you barely joyous, broken thing.
You are a voice that never sings, is what i say.
You are freezing over hell
You are bringing on that end you do so well
and you can only blame yourself, is what is say.

Oh, order your daughters to ignore me
think that will sort me?
and sweep me under the rug?
while you're beating with a book
everyone that book tells you to love.

There is an ember in the heart of this kiln
and it's burning hot with love.
Burning out my center till there's nothing but dust
then rolling me with care into your cigarette
cause the God i believe in never worked on a campaign trail.

What did you learn tonight?
You're shouting so loud, you barely joyous, broken thing.
You're a voice that never sings, is what i say.
You are freezing over hell.
You are bringing on the end you've read about
and you can only blame yourself, is what i say.

Who do you carry that torch for, my young man?
Do you believe in anything,
or do you carry it around just to burn things to the ground?

The thing that i like the most about brand new is how it always seems like they are evolving, it seems like every album is a little more mature and just a little better then the one before it.

from the sound of it, the chorus comes right from untitled 9. i like these lyrics a lot better than the demos that came out awhile ago though.

untitled 9 was so good, and i can so see the same writting in them both, but this songs still so good. the lyrics seem to be political, which i kinda hoped bn would avoid.
heh. oh well x

I guess this song really shows why the album is called The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me...this album seems like its gonna be jumpy with styles.

I liked #9 too but this is a completely different song. I like the political message; #3 from the demos was a nice narrative but kind of melodramatic after a few listens. Cheers to their new stuff, I like the energy.

With a god that we found laying under the backseat.

All that you've taught us to ignore me because I was sorry,
and sweep me under the rug,
You're beating with a book everyone the book tells you to love,
There is an ember in the heart of the kiln and it's burning hot with love,
Burning out my center till there's nothing but dust,
Rolling me with care into your cigarette,

Do you carry it around just to burn things to the ground?

What did you learn tonight?
Shouting so loud, you barely see
(Feels like we could escape, I don't mind throwing away the filthy silver song.)
You're this broken thing,
You're a voice that never sings, that's what I say.
(If you try running a maze, if your lies are true, I would say that you sold out everyone.)
You were freezing over hell,
You were bringing on the end; you do so well,
You can only blame yourself, that's what I say.

The last little background lyric (if your lies...

Definite political undertones in this one. But not blatant bashing of any particular regime, which is what I like about it. Love this song.

Deja was better, but this is still good stuff.... Deja is where it's at.
Anyone notice how the little background vocal chorus part is reminiscent of their early YFW style? if u listen just to the background vocals there u could almost see them fit in some fall out boy song or something?

Let this CD grow on you, When Deja first came out some people had the same reaction. Im sure that after a while this will be up there with the other two.

Okay, I have to admit that musically, I liked Untitled a lot more, but as far as the lyrics go, they're pretty equally awesome. The only reason that this album isn't blowing anyone away is because some of their best work got leaked onto the internet before it was finished. For most of those songs, that meant going back to the drawing board. Yeah, a couple of 'em made it, but those ones were vastly refirnished. Knowing that, I would have to say that this is an amazing album. Best ever? No, but it's really good, and considering the circumstances, it's much more than I expected from them. Props to you, Brand New!

1. Deja was not better. Yes, Deja was phenomenal. Spectacular. But so is this. I think of these songs as songs that Brand New wrote and composed after they finished with Deja. It sucks when someone deflates an album before it has even been officially released. Who the fuck cares which was "better." It's ALL GOOD, baby. Pong, you are absolutely right, I went through the same thing initially. I agree in part with you too, Eyecon. Smaller bands like Brand New that rarely get radio play are hurt more by leaked songs.

2. Song sounds political to me. I usually don't care for political songs, but I must say this was well done as it was written without being overbearing.

I listened to it a couple of times, and it did come out as anti-bush to me. In fact, I'm using it for an anti-bush video montage for school. I had no idea others thought the same.

When I downloaded this song, it came out as "The Archer's bows are broken". Where did that come from?

this song IS about bush, no doubt in my mind.
i love in the second verse, "Youre beating with a book everyone that book told you to love" - totally a reference to the Bible.
i disagree with everyone who said deja was better, this album is so much more mature than the others, so much more real. i love it.

I think this song is about being misguided. basicly having the devil and god raging inside of you trying to get you on one of there sides

you gonna destroy? or are you going to believe?

who do you carry the torch for? the devil or god?

Also about the whats better thing, that's your view and i respect that and i think it's wrong people should turn agasint you if you do think Deja vu is better, but i think they are generaly trying to get you not to underestimate this album either

I like all 3 albums myself, i dont have a favourite because brand new are so diverse in every album, i cant say one is better because they all reflect personal feelings in a different time and place..

i can relate to this latest one at the moment because i am having a struggle in myself at the moment.
