Lyrics for Dead! as interpreted by veosoco

Dead! Lyrics
And if your heart stops beating
I'll be here wondering
Did you get what you deserve?
The ending of your life
And if you get to heaven
I'll be here waiting, babe
Did you get what you deserve?
The end, and if your life won't wait
Then your heart can't take this

Have you heard the news that you're dead?
No one ever had much nice to say
I think they never liked you anyway
Oh take me from the hospital bed
Wouldn't it be grand? It ain't exactly what you planned
And wouldn't it be great If we were dead.
Ohh dead

Tongue-tied and oh so squeamish
You never fell in love
Did you get what you deserve?
The ending of your life
And if you get to heaven
I'll be here waiting, babe
Did you get what you deserve?
The end, and if your life won't wait
Then your heart can't take this

Have you heard the news that you're dead?
No one ever had much nice to say
I think they never liked you anyway
Oh take me from the hospital bed
Wouldn't it be grand to take a pistol by the hand?
And wouldn't it be great if we were dead

And in my honest observation
During this operation
Found a complication in your heart
So long, 'cause now you've got
Maybe just two weeks to live
Is that the most both of you can give?

One, two, one two three four!

LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!
Well come on,
LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!
Oh motherfucker,

If life ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why are we laughing? (LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
If life ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why are we laughing?
If life ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why are we laughing? (LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
If like ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why am I dead?
DEAD!

This song is about The Patient being sarcastic about death. And he's looking back laughing it off. "Oh take me from the hospital bed! Wouldn't it be grand to take a pistol by the hand? Wouldn't it be great if we were dead?" "If life ain't just a joke, then why are we laughing?" The Patient is dead, and he really just wants everyone else to get it over with. The song is kind of him telling everyone around him that doesn't care, to fuck off. Like the girl, for instance he really just wants her to die too so he can rub it in her face. "I'll be here waiting babe. Did you get what you deserve?" Like he hopes she dies brutally.

I agree with Ms. Chelsea.Lane above me. The Patient is either dead or rapidly moribund, and can't keep back the cynicism. Kind of reminds me of Ippolit's speech in "The Idiot."

I love this song. I'm laughing and grinning like and eejit by the end, almost guaranteed.

My take:

The patient has just died and entered the "afterlife" where another dead soul (perhaps a lover?) is explaining to him that he's dead.

As he comes to terms with the circumstances of his death, he looks back on his life and evaluates it ("If life ain't just a joke, then why are we laughing?").

Dead! opens the story of the Black Parade up(The End. was more of a song to prepare the audience). Someone important to the patient dies, and is talking to him. The someone asks the Patient have you heard the news that you're dead, to which the Patient asks to be taken from hospital bed. The Patient learns that he has two weeks to live until his heart cancer kills him to which he says "is that the most the both of you(doctor and nurse) can give?" meaning is that all the time he has left. This sudden horror makes the Patient say that life is just a joke. Stating that if it weren't a joke then he would still be alive(he's feeling dead having been handed a two week estimate of how much time he's got left).

I'm a sort of new MCR fan, and I keep hearing about a patient. Can someone explain this to me? Thank you :D

Ok for those of you who are new to MCR I'll explain to you who the patient is.
MCR always tells a story with their albums, like an rock opera. For example, I Brought You My Bullets and You Brought Me Your Love was about a Bonnie and Clyde type of couple. Two lovers who are outlaws and both believe they are damned. They die in the end but their story is continued in the next album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. In this one the Man goes to hell and the woman (his love) goes to heaven or is still alive (it depends on your view of it). Satan takes pity on the man and makes a deal with him, if he is to give him the souls of a thousand evil men then he will reunite him with his love. The man agrees. The album continues to tell the story and the two are reunited only to be killed and both dragged into hell, for they are the last two souls of the thousand evil ones.
Now in Black Parade it opens with a completely different story. A patient in a hospital is dieing, probably of cancer, and he is looking back on his life. Things he did, things he didn't do. Now if the patient lives or dies it is up to you and your opinion.

Well, to my mind, in the song one person hates another. So he mocks at him telling him "Have you heard the news that you are dead?" "a complication in your heart: Maybe just two weeks to live". And he tells him, if he after his death gets to heaven, he'll find him and get him what he deserves :>

i think this song isnt even about some one that dies. i think that its is using metaphor to say that this person is never out is anti social and no one really likes this person. so when it says your dead it talking about how they are "dead" because they dont use their life for anything useful and it like they are dead. like when gerard says "you never fell in love" that is a way that the person isnt using his/her lif to do anything useful.

To me, this song has multiple meanings. But the main one that sticks with me is a mix of the reject/patient theories. I think the person who died was a reject. so, in the first verse of the song, it's talking about him. But in the second verse, it's him talking about everyone who shunned him during life.

But I'm probably wrong. I dunno.

And I think the last part is just the best thing My Chemical Romance has ever done :]

P.S., "And if your heart stops beating
I'll be here wondering
Did you get what you deserve?
The ending of your life
And if you get to heaven
I'll be here waiting, babe
Did you get what you deserve?"

those lyrics are amazing!

dude! its not dead. its dead! its not the same song without the exclamation mark. but anyway i think its talking about how death isnt really so bad. i mean its no doubt a happy song. and they could be asking whats so great about this life? theres a lot of stuff wrong with it. so death isnt so bad. i dont know i could be completely wrong thats just the impression i get from it.

This one is just a fuckin kick ass song.......luve it.... anyway as for the meaning I think that somehow he is just being kind of sarcastic about death......just to face the fact that he is going to die withou negativity......as for the girl he is just telling her she's going to die to...someday or another ...and that's true.........LoL

I think that part of this song is about dying before doing all you want to in life.

Has no one mentioned that this is musically based on Electric Light Orchestra's Mr. Blue Sky? This is a good song here, and they obviously had fun with turning the fun, happy, cheerful, all about loving life song into a song about sardonic death. Check out the original song, and I think there's a pleasant surprise in store for most of you.

haha
when i first heard this
i thought that

"Wouldn't it be grand to take a pistol by the hand?"

was

"and no one ever tried to take a piss without a hand"
which i thought was really great. the real lyric is nice too though =]

Ha "no one ever tried to take a piss without a hand" that's funny. Gerard sings so fast in this song. I thought

"Have you heard the news that you're dead?"

was

"Dead! You hear the news that you're dead!"

and I had NO IDEA what he said in this bit-

"Oh take me from the hospital bed
Wouldn't it be grand? It ain't exactly what you planned"

This song cheers me up. It makes me laugh. That's kinda funny seeing as he talking about some poor fellow dying and no one caring but how can you not find it funny? LMAO

I mean they have La La's in there and everything!!

I think its just a tongue in cheek, sarcastic way to go about suicide... Maybe it's the voice inside the guy's head making him want to kill himself (or herself).

I don't know.
