Lyrics for Dead! as interpreted by veosoco

Dead! Lyrics
And if your heart stops beating
I'll be here wondering
Did you get what you deserve?
The ending of your life
And if you get to heaven
I'll be here waiting, babe
Did you get what you deserve?
The end, and if your life won't wait
Then your heart can't take this

Have you heard the news that you're dead?
No one ever had much nice to say
I think they never liked you anyway
Oh take me from the hospital bed
Wouldn't it be grand? It ain't exactly what you planned
And wouldn't it be great If we were dead.
Ohh dead

Tongue-tied and oh so squeamish
You never fell in love
Did you get what you deserve?
The ending of your life
And if you get to heaven
I'll be here waiting, babe
Did you get what you deserve?
The end, and if your life won't wait
Then your heart can't take this

Have you heard the news that you're dead?
No one ever had much nice to say
I think they never liked you anyway
Oh take me from the hospital bed
Wouldn't it be grand to take a pistol by the hand?
And wouldn't it be great if we were dead

And in my honest observation
During this operation
Found a complication in your heart
So long, 'cause now you've got
Maybe just two weeks to live
Is that the most both of you can give?

One, two, one two three four!

LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!
Well come on,
LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA!
LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!
Oh motherfucker,

If life ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why are we laughing? (LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
If life ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why are we laughing?
If life ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why are we laughing? (LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
If like ain't just a joke (LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!)
Then why am I dead?
DEAD!

Does anyone notice how at the start of The End, a heart can be heard beating through a heart rat monitor, then at the start of Dead!, the heart is dead?

Maybe it's just me, or maybe I'm right. I have no idea what I'm going on about so I'll shut up now.

I think this song is about a girl who is afraid to die, but this boy is telling her how it was like for him to die.

this is just more fabulous MCR sarcasm. If it is about a heavier subject (like death, dying, general existentialism) its really well toned down. Thats the great thing about them- as they've gone on they've just gotten more and more subtle. Its still kind depressing when you think about it, but its not as slit-your-wrists as it used to be. Its almost a satirical kind of emo.

After TBP came out, I couldn't stop listening to this song. Everyone covered it’s meaning pretty well. An awesome tune, the ‘La, La, La’s’ make it what it is.

I've always been a huge MCR fan, and I just finished listening to "The Black Parade Is Dead!"
Naturally, I finally started to wonder what the whole album was really about. I know all that crap about "The Patient" and his trip through death but I was hoping for something a little bit deeper.

When I listened to this song a few times and read the lyrics I think I've got this one figured out.

The beginning verse is The Black Parade's (as in the one that takes The Patient through death) introduction. It is speaking to The Patient before he dies (possibly while he is sedated during surgery, given the lyrics right before the guitar solo, which is a sweet-ass solo, by the way) and is letting him know that he might die and what will happen when he does. The line, "Did you get what you deserve?", refers to whether or not The Patient deserved to die, and the repetition of that line later in the verse refers to whether the Patient should wind up in heaven or hell.

The chorus is a conversation between The Black Parade and the Patient. Beginning with the first line and ending with "...liked you anyway.", The parade tells the patient that he will enjoy death because his life was so miserable. The Patient agrees with the line, "Oh take me from this hospital bed", and The Parade finishes the rest of the chorus by hinting that it would be great to be dead.

The second verse continues to tell the patient that his life was misearble ("...You never fell in love...") and continues to ask the same questions as the first vesre did.

The repetition of the chorus is the same as before, only this time the Patient finishes the verse (He speaks the line "Wouldn't it be great.....dead?". He also makes reference to a pistol, perhaps meaning that not only has he accepted death, but is welcoming it and perhaps hoping for it, perhaps even by suicide.

The part (third verse?) right before the guitar solo finally confirms that the Black Parade's reason for visiting is not to tell the Patient that he might die, but that he WILL, which explains why the Parade was trying to get him to accept death in the earlier parts of the song.

The final part of the song, the cathartic series of "La La La's and what not, is the part where the Patient is finally beginning to die. He has already accepted it and is now mocking the living ("If life ain't just a joke......laughing?") and expressing a sarcastic attitude towards his life. The "La La La's" perhaps serve as another form of insult, as the Patient enters death without a care in the world and sings a happy tune to himself in the form of La's.

The final scream of "DEAD!" at the end is the nail in the coffin. (pun very much intended) It indicates that there is no turning back, you're dead.

Yet another great song from MCR. I love it!

I agree with Matt Star. Concidering the entire concept of the album, I think it is the Patient's sarcastic look at life and death as he comes to terms with the fact that he's dead.

This song is made of awesome. It makes me crack up whenever I hear it. That heart monitor sound at the beginning is a very great touch to the song and it's meaning.

The honest observation part also makes me laugh just because of the accent. For real.

I love listening to this song when I'm down. Always manages to cheer me up a little. Great song.

Ha "no one ever tried to take a piss without a hand" that's funny. Gerard sings so fast in this song. I thought

"Have you heard the news that you're dead?"

was

"Dead! You hear the news that you're dead!"

and I had NO IDEA what he said in this bit-

"Oh take me from the hospital bed
Wouldn't it be grand? It ain't exactly what you planned"

This song cheers me up. It makes me laugh. That's kinda funny seeing as he talking about some poor fellow dying and no one caring but how can you not find it funny? LMAO

I mean they have La La's in there and everything!!

I think its just a tongue in cheek, sarcastic way to go about suicide... Maybe it's the voice inside the guy's head making him want to kill himself (or herself).

I don't know.

i thought that

"Wouldn't it be grand to take a pistol by the hand?"

was

"and no one ever tried to take a piss without a hand"
which i thought was really great. the real lyric is nice too though =]

Has no one mentioned that this is musically based on Electric Light Orchestra's Mr. Blue Sky? This is a good song here, and they obviously had fun with turning the fun, happy, cheerful, all about loving life song into a song about sardonic death. Check out the original song, and I think there's a pleasant surprise in store for most of you.

This one is just a fuckin kick ass song.......luve it.... anyway as for the meaning I think that somehow he is just being kind of sarcastic about death......just to face the fact that he is going to die withou negativity......as for the girl he is just telling her she's going to die to...someday or another ...and that's true.........LoL

dude! its not dead. its dead! its not the same song without the exclamation mark. but anyway i think its talking about how death isnt really so bad. i mean its no doubt a happy song. and they could be asking whats so great about this life? theres a lot of stuff wrong with it. so death isnt so bad. i dont know i could be completely wrong thats just the impression i get from it.

To me, this song has multiple meanings. But the main one that sticks with me is a mix of the reject/patient theories. I think the person who died was a reject. so, in the first verse of the song, it's talking about him. But in the second verse, it's him talking about everyone who shunned him during life.

But I'm probably wrong. I dunno.

And I think the last part is just the best thing My Chemical Romance has ever done :]

P.S., "And if your heart stops beating
I'll be here wondering
Did you get what you deserve?
The ending of your life
And if you get to heaven
I'll be here waiting, babe
Did you get what you deserve?"

those lyrics are amazing!
