It's definitely about losing someone, or something. Whether again, that be a loved one, a relationship, or the world itself. And it's explaining the war within ones self about it and explaining how they feel about it. The realization, the truth about it. The truth about how something really is when a human feels like it's "the end." All the bad, the hate, the pain, the questions.
Most of Andy Hull's lyrics aren't about relationship break ups most are about his relationship with god or his close friends/family and touring this song how ever is a bit different very metaphorical but the meaning was there the guy talking about war was the closest.
The song is written in first person from the planet Earth, the line everyones trying to quote your phrase if some ones got the answers id rather think theres nothing to be found etc is about how in society we all turn a blind eye to how we destroy the earth we don't want to look for problems because we're to consumed by the pursuit of material happiness at the expense of mother nature. If you knew I was dying would it change you is self explanatory obviously would we actually change as whole if every single one of us was aware of how dire our dilemma is? Andy knows that the answer is no and thus it used almost sarcastically.
'don't be cautious when I'm cautiously approaching on the other side' is the idea that we are not slowing down or being cautious with our mass consumption even though the earth is approaching the end when it is no longer sustainable for us we take no care in what we do and how we do it we just do it because everybody does it that's what this song is about. I think that these lyrics talk about how people's lifes and roads seperate when they encounter difficulties, because we're too egoistic to follow them, we think that our opinion is better.

When you break up with someone you really love, it is actually "the end of the world". No-one else matters ("they ate everyone").

Maybe the person that this song is about doesn't say what they're feeling or he/she and the singer shared something "dirty". The singer sees that everything is beautiful on that person, but the flames of his passion are destroying everything.

This has came over my mind a lot of times. If the one that dumbed you knew that you were dying, would he/she change their minds or show their true emotions? I love this lyric, despite it's bitterness.
