When I clung to you there was nothing to hold on tight with,
You left me adrift.
Colorado, what now?

General Comment:I feel like this song could be about a person who had held on to someone dearly and lost grip of it due to circumstances such as rejection, lack of hope, patience, will, motivation, or whatever.. To me, I relate to it on a level of seeking solidarity and beauty; a place to escape and heal from losing something you had held on to for countless months or even years. Colorado is a pretty good place to escape in my opinion.

General Comment:This song reminds me of climbing. I'm not a climber per se, but I live in Colorado in a town that's full of climbers. I love going to the foothills and, pardon the hippie talk, making myself one with the land by running up the side of a mountain and scrambling around on the rocks. The feeling I get when I hear this song is just like the feeling I get when I'm alone on the Flatirons with nothing but me, the fresh air, and the sickening view of the city smog.
The song does make references to holding onto something--perhaps a person, perhaps a rock face.

Everyone's going to interpret this differently, but I don't think we need to limit our interpretations of songs to romance. To me, this song is about Colorado.

My Interpretation:I would like to point out that when he says "what now?" he says "what" once more than necessary, making "what now" turn into "now what".
I just think that's interesting. It kinda adds to the confusion and sense of loss.

I also would like to add that this song feels like going chest-deep into freezing water without letting your body adjust to it. Like if that physical feeling were an emotion, this song evokes that emotion. Sorry if that's a bit abstract..

As for the meaning.. I agree with elec_trick and mpiet. (:

General Comment:I think it's about visiting Colorado and being blown away by its natural beauty. Then, wanting so badly to stay in Colorado, but not having a good enough reason to make that happen or other priorities pulling him away. Then, having to let go but yearning to be back... for good. What now?

General Comment:--I totally agree with you elec_trick. Maybe I just want to believe that such a beautiful song is about something deeper than technology, but it seems to me that it's talking about love. Love seems to be a recurring theme in Grizzly Bear's music, especially in the songs that Ed writes.

General Comment:i don't think this has anything to do with technology.. it feels much more powerful to me than that.
i think it's about loving someone who couldn't give back what you wanted or needed, and it was easy for them to let you go since they didn't feel the same, but now the they're gone, you don't know what to do with yourself, even though you know it was a wrong fit. what now that you have no one to depend on, whether that person is a good or bad fit for you?
sorry that that was kind of babbling.. haha
    beautiful song

General Comment:I am not dissing on you honicz, but it seems all of these AC comparisons (it can be found on other Griz stuff) seem to come out well after this album came out. If you compare AC at the same time this came out your comment is laughable at best. These bands are completely different. Period.

It should be said though that I like your other comments.
