She said "I was seven and you were nine"
I looked at you like the stars that shine in the sky
Pretty lights
And our daddies used to joke about the two of us
Growing up and falling in love
And our mommas smiled and rolled their eyes
And said "oh, my my my"

Take me back to the house in the backyard trees
Said you'd beat me up... you were bigger than me
You never did, you never did
Take me back when our world was one big lie
I dared you to kiss me and ran when you tried
Just two kids, you and I
Oh, my my my my

Well I was sixteen when suddenly
I wasn't that little girl you used to see
But your eyes still shined like pretty lights
And our daddies used to joke about the two of us
We never believed we'd really fall in love
And our mommas smiled and rolled their eyes
And said "Oh, my my my"

Take me back to the creek that's reaching dark
2 AM, riding in your truck
And all I need is here next to me
Take me back to the time we had our very first fight
Slamming a door instead of kissing goodnight
You stayed outside 'til the morning light
Oh, my my my my

A few years have gone and come around
We were sitting at our favorite spot in town
And you looked at me
Got down on one knee
Take me back to the time when we walked down the aisle
Our whole town came and our mommas cried
You said "I do" and I did too.
Take me home when we met so many years before
We'll we rock our babies on the very front porch After all this time, you and I

When I'll be 87 you'll be 89
I'll still look at you like the stars that shine in the sky

Oh, my my my

Memory:Since I first heard this song, I thought of only one guy. And it's funny because I'm 19 and he's 26, but we've known each other for twelve years. The part where it says "our daddies used to joke about the two of us growing up and falling love and our mamas smiled and rolled their eyes" ... well, it really happened. The two of us lived in different states at the time, but every time one or the other visited, him and I were always together. Always. And after eleven years, he finally asked me out and we've been happily dating for a year, two months, and seven days :) <3 Couldn't be happier, and couldn't ask for a better man :)

General Comment:I hate her for always bringing my hopes up in real love life. I was always fed by bullshit of meeting the prince and living happily ever after when I was only a kid, then I grow up and start to listen to her songs and it's like I'm fed by bullshits all over again

General Comment:Taylor Swift explained the background to this tune, which she penned with Liz Rose and Brian Maher: "I wrote this song about a couple who lived next door to us. They'd been married forever and they came over one night for dinner, and were just so cute. They were talking about how they fell in love and got married, and how they met when they were just little kids. I thought it was so sweet, because you can go to the grocery store and read the tabloids, and see who's breaking up and cheating on each other (or just listen to some of my songs, haha). But it was really comforting to know that all I had to do was go home and look next door to see a perfect example of forever."

General Comment:I just listened to this song for the first time and the "She said" at the beginning threw me off--I thought it was a story about a relationship between two women. By the end of the song I figured that it was probably a woman and a man. Then I came to this site to see if anyone else had had the same issue, but apparently not.

I like the imagery she uses here and in other songs to describe childhood.

General Comment:Beautiful song about growing up and staying true to the one person who's been there through it all with you.

I believe this is one of Taylor's best songs. It paints a beautiful picture of two people growing old together.

General Comment:this song is actually adorable, i know i wrote on here before..
but like my boyfriend and i have been together for a while now, and its actually so weird because we used to be so close when we were younger until we were like 7 and we stopped talking for about 8 years. now as i`m getting closer to sixteen years old, my father brought me to his house and i started talking to him. this song reminds me of us and i`m hoping that we continue to date and possibly make the rest of this song our life story. <3

General Comment:To me, I feel more than anything that this is my song.
When I was two years old, my family met a family similar to ours. Our mothers instantly became best friends, and when our Dad's were introduced later they did too, which is actually very strange because my father is one of those people who only has a few friends he actually likes. They had three children; The oldest a boy who was three at the time, a sister slightly younger than me aged 1, and a younger boy who had just been born, who coincidently was the same age as my sister. And so from then on we did everything together as the two family's, holidayed, walked, everything. And right from the very beginning our mothers noticed something about me and the oldest boy. He was my best friend all the way through, and they could never work out what it was but they always said there was this thing connecting us, even from the ages of 2 and 3. When I was 5 our family relocated to the north east, 6 hours in the car away from everything I had grown up around. It was hard, but we still tried to do everything with them, and even though months would pass, every time we'd see them and I'd see him everything would be back to normal. And it's funny because right from the beginning our mothers would always say we would end up married. I used to shrug it off, like a kid does. But I was about aged 13 when I realised that I was in love with him. Even at that age I realised he was my soul mate, that we are two shapes that fit perfectly together. And even though I only see him 3, maybe 4 times a year, he is all I ever think about. The last time I saw him was a couple of days ago. I'd always thought that he'd only ever seen me as his best friend, but last time, last time something changed. We kissed. And suddenly everything was up in the air. I know that it's my destiny to marry him and this song makes me cry every time I hear it because it's true, and I am in love with him.

General Comment:I think this song is so sweet, because, correct me if I'm wrong, Taylor wrote this song to play at her friend Mary's wedding, didn't she? Or something along those lines.

It's so nice to think that this sort of love story actually happens, too. It's that classic movie story that you never expect to happen - and yet, he does.

    "I'll be eighty-seven
    you'll be eighty-nine
I'll still look at you like the stars that shine
    in the sky
    Oh, my my my my.."
