She said "I was seven and you were nine"
I looked at you like the stars that shine in the sky
Pretty lights
And our daddies used to joke about the two of us
Growing up and falling in love
And our mommas smiled and rolled their eyes
And said "oh, my my my"
Take me back to the house in the backyard trees
Said you'd beat me up... you were bigger than me
You never did, you never did
Take me back when our world was one big lie
I dared you to kiss me and ran when you tried
Just two kids, you and I
Oh, my my my my
Well I was sixteen when suddenly
I wasn't that little girl you used to see
But your eyes still shined like pretty lights
And our daddies used to joke about the two of us
We never believed we'd really fall in love
And our mommas smiled and rolled their eyes
And said "Oh, my my my"
Take me back to the creek that's reaching dark
2 AM, riding in your truck
And all I need is here next to me
Take me back to the time we had our very first fight
Slamming a door instead of kissing goodnight
You stayed outside 'til the morning light
Oh, my my my my
A few years have gone and come around
We were sitting at our favorite spot in town
And you looked at me
Got down on one knee
Take me back to the time when we walked down the aisle
Our whole town came and our mommas cried
You said "I do" and I did too.
Take me home when we met so many years before
We'll we rock our babies on the very front porch After all this time, you and I
When I'll be 87 you'll be 89
I'll still look at you like the stars that shine in the sky
Oh, my my my
I looked at you like the stars that shine in the sky
Pretty lights
And our daddies used to joke about the two of us
Growing up and falling in love
And our mommas smiled and rolled their eyes
And said "oh, my my my"
Take me back to the house in the backyard trees
Said you'd beat me up... you were bigger than me
You never did, you never did
Take me back when our world was one big lie

Just two kids, you and I
Oh, my my my my

The guy i'm in love with is two years older than me. I hope we end up together :)
I like the imagery she uses here and in other songs to describe childhood.
I believe this is one of Taylor's best songs. It paints a beautiful picture of two people growing old together.
but like my boyfriend and i have been together for a while now, and its actually so weird because we used to be so close when we were younger until we were like 7 and we stopped talking for about 8 years. now as i`m getting closer to sixteen years old, my father brought me to his house and i started talking to him. this song reminds me of us and i`m hoping that we continue to date and possibly make the rest of this song our life story. <3
When I was two years old, my family met a family similar to ours. Our mothers instantly became best friends, and when our Dad's were introduced later they did too, which is actually very strange because my father is one of those people who only has a few friends he actually likes. They had three children; The oldest a boy who was three at the time, a sister slightly younger than me aged 1, and a younger boy who had just been born, who coincidently was the same age as my sister. And so from then on we did everything together as the two family's, holidayed, walked, everything. And right from the very beginning our mothers noticed something about me and the oldest boy. He was my best friend all the way through, and they could never work out what it was but they always said there was this thing connecting us, even from the ages of 2 and 3. When I was 5 our family relocated to the north east, 6 hours in the car away from everything I had grown up around. It was hard, but we still tried to do everything with them, and even though months would pass, every time we'd see them and I'd see him everything would be back to normal. And it's funny because right from the beginning our mothers would always say we would end up married. I used to shrug it off, like a kid does. But I was about aged 13 when I realised that I was in love with him. Even at that age I realised he was my soul mate, that we are two shapes that fit perfectly together. And even though I only see him 3, maybe 4 times a year, he is all I ever think about. The last time I saw him was a couple of days ago. I'd always thought that he'd only ever seen me as his best friend, but last time, last time something changed. We kissed. And suddenly everything was up in the air. I know that it's my destiny to marry him and this song makes me cry every time I hear it because it's true, and I am in love with him.
It's so nice to think that this sort of love story actually happens, too. It's that classic movie story that you never expect to happen - and yet, he does.
"I'll be eighty-seven
you'll be eighty-nine
I'll still look at you like the stars that shine
in the sky
Oh, my my my my.."
