Lyrics for Up Periscope as interpreted by shut me up

Up Periscope Lyrics
If I could have a single wish
I'd only wish
I never miss it when you'd
wake up and smile

It makes me happy
when you steal a little kiss
before you wake me up to
listen to the news for awhile

And when you're
creeping out of bed
I sneak a peek to see
just what you were wearing last night

Or what was left over
from ripping off our clothes
I checked to see the door was closed
as you were turning out the lights

Whoever said romance was over
Roll over
So I can show you
Don't you want me to be
The captain of your submarine
Up periscope
That's what I say
That's just my way
of saying that I love you

My life is like a bowl of cherries
Not so very ordinary
Overflowing with love

And I could never want for more
unless our two became a four
or maybe three
and if we practice it enough

Whoever said romance was over
Roll over
So I can show you
Don't you want me to be
The captain of your submarine
Up periscope
That's what I say
That's just my way
of saying that I love you

Now I know that life is hard
I know that love can break your heart
That's just the way that it is

Well baby that's a load of smack
Don't you know I've got your back
What's important is the way that we live

And like the way you like this song
because it makes you hum along
and tap your foot to the beat

Well that's the way
you make me feel
when we're doing it for real
I can feel it from my head to my feet

Whoever said romance was over
Roll over
So I can give you
one more chance to believe
and hopefully see
that I still want you
Don't you want me to be
The captain of your submarine
Up periscope
That's what I say
That's just my way
of saying that I love you
I love you

This song is nasty for Drake's style. I can't believe he wrote these disgusting lyrics. Drake never uses nast crap in his songs. If you don't get what I'm talking about, I am talking about the part that says, "And when you're
creeping out of bed
I sneak a peek to see
just what you were wearing last night

Or what was left over
from ripping off our clothes
I checked to see the door was closed
as you were turning out the lights

Whoever said romance was over
Roll over
So I can show you
Don’t you want me to be
The captain of your submarine
Up periscope
That’s what I say
That’s just my way
of saying that I love you"

@bonjou:
He's 20 years old. Why is it wrong for a 20 year old to write about sex? And I don't think you got the right message.

It's about love, and putting love and romance into sex, and how a lot of people have sex without loving their partner.

Great song. Nice to see Drake writing about more mature things.

This song is the best thing to happen to music since MC Hammer's "2 Legit 2 Quit".

Love, love, love, love, love, love...

This song is so amazing. I'm just confused about one line. Maybe someone could help me out?

'And I could never want for more
unless our two became a four
or maybe three
and if we practice it enough'

What does that mean in the context of the song? I knoew the 'two' part is about the couple, but what is he talking about exactly?

Love this song! :) And love Drake. He's an amazing artist.

i really like this song and all of drakes music. ok so i do like jesse mccartney who was probably thrown into music but drake actually has the writting talent and he plays the guitar and he actually sounds good live thats what makes him a good artist.

this song is quite dirty, especially because he refers to having a three-some when he says "And I could never want for more
unless our two became a four
or maybe three
and if we practice it enough".

if any other person sang this song, i might be a little pissed, but since i am 100% in love with drake bell, i'll let this one slip. and i agree tetsco, he can be the captain of my submarine any day.

I just like the way Drake could put in a mature message of sex into a song but still keeping it a fun song to listen to. And I agree with shut me up, He isn't JUST talking about sex. He's keeping the love, romance and relationship theme in the song. He's twenty years old, he's allowed. The thing I say to people who disagree to his choice of lyrics is, if you think you can do a better job, go and become a huge music success. ((Not meaning to seem mean or bitter.))
And with SweetIntoxication's question, I'm not so sure if anyone else though this but it's just what I thought of but, couldn't he be talking about kids? I know it's highly unlikely but that's just what I thought of...
Also, AvA-182 is right, this is a whole lot better than some of the mainstream music you get these days. I come from Australia and I tend to sway away from the music that all the people are raving about. Because the music everybody is into is all about sex or drugs or prostitutes... Music has definatly gone downhill. But then you get musicians like Drake who's able to keep the message of sex in there without making it a crap song and still keeping a meaning in his lyrics. That's what I love about him, his taste in lyrics.

I wouldn't recommend people let their children listen to this particular Drake Bell song, but hey, I'm the same age as him, its kind of nice to be able to listen to him and it be a bit more mature. But that's just me. It sounds more like him singing in a futuristic view, talking about how he would like it to be one of these days when he does have a wife and a family. Its actually a pretty sweet song.

Believe it or not, Drake can write a song about whatever he wants. Not to mention his meaning maybe infact, different from your own. On a nicer note, this one of the real stand-out songs on It's Only Time.

besides the most obvious lines about bed and ripping off clothes, the Freudian symbolism in the periscope is obvious... and he also mentions cherries. It's hard to believe how many little kids listen to this, but I'm just glad to hear that Drake's not pandering to a too-young crowd.

I daresay, I was somewhat shocked by the content of this song

LOL. the first time I heard it, I thought it was some kind of jumpy party song XD But hearing it through, I'm alittle surprised. It's a great song, rhythmically, melodically and lyrically, but was it really his best move?

By this I mean, most of his fans are going to be aged between say...12 - 16 at a rough guess, because of his role with Josh Peck in "Drake and Josh". It would be this age range buying his albums.

A great song, definately, but I personally don't think it's his best idea =/

Such a dirty/fun song to listen to.

Just because most of Drake's fans are younger doesn't mean he has to write songs that are geared toward them. He's an adult, so of course he's going to have songs here and there about adult situations/topics.
