Sometimes I think about you
Wonder if you're out there somewhere thinkin' 'bout me
And would you even recognize
The woman that your little girl has grown up to be
Cause I look in the mirror and all I see
Are your brown eyes lookin' back at me
They're the only thing you ever gave to me at all

[Chorus]
Oh, I hear the weather's nice in California
There's sunny sky as far as I can see
If you ever come back home to Carolina
I wonder what you'd say to me

I think about how it ain't fair
That you weren't there to braid my hair like mothers do
You weren't around to cheer me on
Help me dress for my high school prom like mothers do
Did you think I didn't need you here to hold my hand, to dry my tears?
Did you even miss me through the years at all?

[Chorus]

Forgiveness is such a simple word
But it's so hard to do
When you've been hurt

Oh, I hear the weather's nice in California
And just in case you're wonderin' about me
From now on I won't be in Carolina
Your little girl is off
Your little girl is off
Your little girl is off to Tennessee

Memory:Hurts a lot more when your mom leaves you at 7, comes back when your 14, and then leaves again a year later. Just enough time for me to know what I was missing...I seem to relate to this song, despite how much I utterly despise country music...Shit happens, but sometimes you just wish it would happen to someone else. (If anyone asks, I don't miss her. Deep down though...I would give anything for just one more hug.)

General Comment:WOW. When I first heard this song I couldnt believe it; my situation exactly! Havent seen or heard from my mom for 18 years, since I was 5 years old. But sometimes you gotta cut your losses and just say "Im better off without em!" Thankfully, I have the best daddy a girl could ask for. Such a great song, Im sure it touched many hearts that were in the same situation. Whenever I have children I will make sure to not make the same mistakes as my mother and will be the best mom I can be! Beautiful song :)

My Opinion:I listen to this song and feel like crying every time. I have had both my parents my whole life, so I can't relate, but it really makes me think and want to thank my parents for the best 13 years anyone could ask for. I am fullfilling my dream one step at a time, and they will always be there. If you are as lucky as me, be sure to thank the man and woman who are doing their best with you every day. they deserve at least that.

General Comment:i've never met my biological father.

that first stanza: "Sometimes I think about you
Wonder if you’re out there somewhere thinkin' 'bout me
And would you even recognize the woman that your little girl has grown up to be
‘Cause I look in the mirror and all I see are your brown eyes lookin' back at me
They’re the only thing you ever gave to me at all"

sums up exactly how i feel. :( he's in federal prison 5 states away. i almost resent him for being so careless about his life, and throwing away what he could have had. now i'm stuck with a horrible step-father, and i wish for my biological father at times, even though i don't even know what he's like. in my heart, i feel like he'd be my savior, and treat us right.

im not allowed to have contact with him at this point, being so young, but i do hope one day i'm able to meet him. i hope when i do, im not disappointed or regret it due to him being a criminal, or not the person i imagined but until then.. i have songs like this :(

General Comment:I've loved country music for so long...and I strayed for a little while. But I watched the CMA's last night and broke down into tears when Kellie sang this song. So powerful. Her mother left her when she was 2...and she co-wrote this song about her estranged mom. She's so strong for growing up through all that. I can't imagine not having my mom around, I've needed her so much. But the song is amazing, especially with her voice and I needed to comment.
