There is a house in New Orleans
They call the risin' sun
It's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And, God, I know I'm one

I cried to my daddy on the telephone
How long now?
Until the clouds unroll and you come down
The line went
But the shadows still remain since your descent, your descent

I cried to my daddy on the telephone
How long now?
Until the clouds unroll and you come home
The line went
But the shadows still remain since your descent, your descent

Lo-cha-hey!

The saints are coming
The saints are coming
I say no matter how I try
I realize there's no reply
The saints are coming
The saints are coming
I say no matter how I try
I realize there's no reply

A drowning sorrow floods the deepest grief
How long now?
Until the weather change condemns belief
How long now?
When the night watchman lets in the thief
What's wrong now?

Boom! Cha! Hey!

The saints are coming
The saints are coming
I say no matter how I try
I realize there's no reply
The saints are coming
The saints are coming
I say no matter how I try
I realize there's no reply
I say no matter how I try
I realize there's no reply
I say no matter how I try
I realize there's no reply

General Comment:I'm analyzing this song for my Music 103 class at my University. This song was a brilliant candidate for me to choose because of how many layers there are to analyze. The political backgrounds of both U2 and Green Day have influenced their own music and evidently the music they cover, The sample of the song "The House of The Rising Sun" in the beginning was useful way to both to pay homage -- to the folk song about a life gone wrong in New Orleans-- and to call attention to the events that were happening in the area at the time of Hurricane Katrina. The choice of cover alone is enough to make a statement. Punk music has always had a "do it yourself "quality to it. The video echoes this sentiment in an ironic way because that's exactly the type of attitude that government of the United States at the time, had or didn't have rather (depending on which way you interpret this) when it came to helping the people of New Orleans. I could go on and on about this song, but i ran out of room, sadly......

General Comment:This is by far one of the best collaboration songs I've ever heard..
I think its obvious to everyone that its about Katrina.
And I hope someone else realizes that he doesn't say, "Ho, Cha Hey," but instead, "Go child, hurry".. I didn't realize it at first either, but thats definitely what he says.

General Comment:People who hate U2 hate Rock music!!!

U2 is the best band in the world!!!!!!!!!!

Get a life you U2 haters.....

This song should have been left to U2 because Green Day are plain shite and there is nothing special about their dumb songs.

Green Day are rock wannabees but are mediocre pop at best. They suck ballz!

U2 is the best band in the worls!!! and you U2 haters need a life. Go back to listen to "The Joshua Tree" and "Achtung Baby" albums to remind you how great U2 are

General Comment:There's a theme to Hurricane Katrina as well as both singers loss of their fathers in it, but surprisingly I think everyone is missing the greater meaning behind the lyrics, which are deeply rooted in Christian theology.

"how long now Until a weather change condemns belief" - a reference to the tribulation period where "weather" and other miricles kill many of the unbelievers/belief in other than Christ.

"how long now When the nightwatchman lets in the thief" The "thief" is a reference to the "thief in the night" analagy Jesus gave about his return at an unexpected time.

"Until the clouds unroll and you come down/home" The clouds are a reference to Christ's return, and "you come home/down" is a reference to the ressurection of souls.

"daddy" might be a euphamism for God (i.e., The Father)

Overall, the song is about The End Times, the return of Christ on His cloud with his legion of angels, and the ressurrection of the souls (The Saints are Comming)

Whether I'm right or wrong, I love the music and mood of this song alot. The video is one of the best ever.

General Comment:this song has a deep meant and a deep story.
it was written by the scottish "skids" and was about one of the their friend when he decided to enlist in us army.
in this song the saints are the military that come back in usa to save the people hit by the kathrine uragan.
