Lyrics for Ain't No Reason as interpreted by alicennn

Ain't No Reason Lyrics
there ain't no reasons things are this way
its how they've always been and they intend to stay
i can't explain why we live this way
we do it everyday
preachers on the podiums speaking to saints
prophets on the sidewalks begging for change
old ladies laughing from the fire escape, cursing my name
i got a basket full of lemons and they all taste the same
a window and a pigeon with a broken wing
you can spend your whole life working for something
just to have it taken away
people walk around pushing back their desks
wearing pay checks like necklaces and bracelets
talking 'bout nothing, not thinking about their
every little heart beat, every little breath
people walk a tight rope on a razor's edge
carrying their hurt and hatred and weapons
it could be a bomb or a bullet or a pin
or a thought or a word or a sentence.
there ain't no reasons things are this way
its how they've always been and they intend to stay
i don't know why i say the things i say,
but i say them anyway.
but love will come set me free
love will come set me free
i do believe
love will come set me free
i know it will
love will come set me free
yes
prison walls still standing tall
some things never change at all
keep on building prisons,
gonna fill them all.
keep on building bombs
gonna drop them all
working your fingers bare to the bone
breaking your back, make you sell your soul
like a lung is filled with coal, suffocating slow
the wind blows wild and i may move
but politicians lie and i'm not fooled
you don't need no reason or a 3 piece suit
to argue the truth
the air on my skin and the world under my toes
Slavery stitched into the fabric of my clothes
chaos and commotion wherever i go
love, i try to follow
but love will come set me free
love will come set me free
i do believe
love will come set me free
i know it will
love will come set me free
yes
there ain't no reasons things are this way
its how they've always been and they intend to stay
i can't explain why we live this way;
we do it everyday.

i think the song is very blunt and truthful, but hopeful as well. we need more songs like this.

i believe this song is just about how people close their eyes to issues because it's easier to ignore or chose blind faith that it'll get better.

he's saying with compassion and love, we can ultimately make the world a better place. if we just stop living life in this routine as living for ourselves and be the change we want to see in this world.

Notwithstanding the state of our world and our blindness to it, Dennen's lyrics appeal to our better angels - the hope that somehow Love can make a difference - and make things better for mankind. And in this hope is faith in Love. What a scandalous, radical idea: simple acts of love for our brothers can change the world for the better.

i heard it on house and it really amazed me. it took me so long to find out who sung it but then i watched the video clip and it was outstanding. ChloeGirldie is so right, its exactly about how wrapped up we are in our lives. its about how our society is today and it wont change. makes you want to change

I just watched the music video for this song. It's so sad. It just makes you think how wrapped up you can be in your own life, that people are still sufferering around the world.

Notice that he says "Love will set me free, I do believe", not that it always will for everyone, but for him, he does believe. Having faith, loving, and forgiving are three of the hardest things for a human to do. Without faith or beliefs, what do we have? I think the song is amazing and the things he talks about, just flow without any reason not to. I cannot get enough of this song, not a huge fan of his other songs, but this one is life changing and incredible. Have faith in the unknown and things you cannot see. There is a higher power, something higher than you, whether it's God, Buddah, the Universe, whatever it is to you, there is something bigger than you.

I just heard this song this morning. Beautiful, I must say.
But I know I've heard it before! And I don't think it was on Scrubs. Anyone know where else I might have heard it?

This song has the best lyrics I've heard since Bob Dylan. It's obvious where the comparisons come from.

Dennen is a fantastic songwriter and a fantastic artist.

It's hard for me to pick a "favorite" line from this song because every single line conveys spectacular imagery in a breathtaking, tear-jerking way. I will cite one however:

"You don't need no reason or a three-piece suit / To argue the truth"

It's late (or rather early in the morning) and I need sleep, so I'll decline further comment and let that line sit with you.

i only heard this song about 1 hour ago but ive had it on repeat ever since.

i think this song is a lie... love doesn't set you free but just sheilds you from the bad things in the world.

but that might be because i have a pretty pessimistic view on the world or maybe its because ive never had someone who i can actually trust.

the point is thats just my view but although i dont agree with the song its made me rethink alot of my views.

i think it's about the sin and faults of the world
the character of our sinfulness and how we live
it's how it is and it isn't going to change
but love will set him free!

This song is about the bad things in life and how it will always be that way, but how love will set people free. I always skip over the "love will set me free" verse because it's not true. Love will not set you free from the bad things in life; it will always be there no matter what. Love could help you through it, but love won't make it dissapear entirely.

I love this song because it talks so truly about the world today, except for "love will set me free." It has a great beat to it, and Brett Dennen is awesome.

When I listen to this song I am filled with an unspeakable passion that can only be interpreted by the sounds of Dennen's music it's self. That's why I stay up late each night; this is why my repeat button has been worn away to just specks of paint. I can feel my soul cry each time I hear this song, and on some night I'm never sure if the crying will ever stop. Obviously I love this song. My favorite lyric is

“keep on building prisons,
gonna fill them all.
keep on building bombs
gonna drop them all”

I don’t think this song is pessimistic at all. When I listen I hear him say that the world/life is shit and it will always be like that, and he “can’t explain why we live this way” but with all this chaos he can still find his way out. Currently I define myself as a “pigeon with a broken wing” because I’m an artist that can’t find inspiration, but love/peace/all that good and positive stuff/ will eventually lead me out of this dark tunnel. Y’know “love will set me free”
Sorry if this is confusing, and if you disagree with me, than I’m fine with that. This is just my opinion

He’s saying that a passion is what will alleviate the tensions of life. Without a passion the weights of the world are proportionally heavier because there are no distractions, no goals. The world is not ideal and life isn’t always what you expected. But if you set a pace for yourself and appreciate what you have. If you take it, the good with the bad. And try as you might to fix the bad. You should be able to manage your existance in a fashion.

I think that this song is a twist of hopeful pessmistic views. He points out all of the things wrong in the world: bombs, prison, backwards religion and the fact how life is about money.

He says that he "believes" love will set him free. Doesn't say that it has. So he is hoping and waiting, like the rest of us, that something will change. Hoping that the clouds will clear up, but as the word "hope" implies, he is waiting.
