Lyrics for The Sharpest Lives as interpreted by wtfmates

The Sharpest Lives Lyrics
Well it rains and it pours when you're out on your own
If I crash on the couch, can I sleep in my clothes
Cause I spent the night dancing, I'm drunk I suppose
If it looks like I'm laughing I'm really just asking to leave this alone
You're in time for the show
You're the one that I need, I'm the one that you loath
You can watch me corrode like a beast in repose
Cause i love all the poison away with the boys in the band

I've really been on a bender and it shows
So why don't you blow me a kiss before she goes

Give me a shot to remember
and you can take all the pain away from me
one kiss and i will surrender
the sharpest lives are deadliest to lead
a light to burn all the empires
so bright the sun is ashamed to rise and be
in love with all of these vampires
so you can leave like the sane abandoned me

There's a place in the dark where the animals go
You can take off your skin in the cannibal glow
Juliet loves the beat and the lust it commands
Drop the dagger and lather the blood on your hands, romeo

I've really been on a bender and it shows
So why don't you blow me a kiss before she goes

Give me a shot to remember
and you can take all the pain away from me
one kiss and i will surrender
the sharpest lives are deadliest to lead
a light to burn all the empires
so bright the sun is ashamed to rise and be
in love with all of these vampires
so you can leave like the sane abandoned me

Give me a shot to remember
and you can take all the pain away from me
one kiss and i will surrender
the sharpest lives are deadliest to lead
a light to burn all the empires
so bright the sun is ashamed to rise and be
in love with all of these vampires
so you can leave like the sane abandoned me

I missed a few words, and am unsure about some other ones, so help me edit this here track.

I love the beginning of this song, it's so simple, fast moving, and catchy. This is also seems like one of the darkest songs on the album

I love that lyric "So why don't you blow me, a kiss before she goes". It seems so out of character for Gerard.

Great song though, definitely one of the darker themed ones without being too obvious on the new album

Some of the lyrics are missing.
Somethings missing from the first verse.
This is an awesome song.
Not sure of the meaning but I suppose some of it is about going out and drinking and being sick as hell. And crashing on the couch.

I dunno.
But I like it.

I think this song is about having someone else killing another person with a gun, like with the lyrics 'you can take all the pain away', and 'So why don't you blow me, a kiss before she goes' could mean that she's killing him out of love, the kiss symbolizing the love and the reason why she's blowing him a kiss is actually the gun blowing a bullet...
maybe, idk

i think "I'll be sure to remember" is really "give me a shot to remember"

This is my favorite song so far on The Black Parade. I haven't heard the whole album though, don't want to spoil the surprise haha.

But I guess to me this song kinda reminds me of when Gerard had drinking problems and the band was basically having personal problems between themselves.

"I'm drunk I suppose
If it looks like I'm laughing I'm really just asking to leave this alone
You're in time for the show
You're the one that I need, I'm the one that you loath
You can watch me corrode like a beast in repose
Cause i love all the poison away with the boys in the band"

Here I think Gerard is basically talking about how he was drunk and he only did it to hide the fact that he felt wasted. And how he drank before his shows and how the alcohol is poisoning him and how he loves the band, and he was afraid that the band was going to fall.

i would go on but i think you get my point =]

this is just a thought, it could definetly be about something else.

Again I think this is about a destructive relationship .. ummhh maybe because I'm in one lol.
I love the beginning and verses, but the chorus is meh. It is indeed Give me a shot to remember, like saying goodbye its hard but I will enjoy the pain .

LOVE THIS SONG! i think yeah its about a fucked up relationship, maybe hes having an affair and she wants him to kill her... something like that... references to romeo and juliet show its probably about death because of love...

these are the lyrics as are in the cd (i support the band, i dont just download from limewire!)

well it rains and it pours when youre out on your own
if i crash on the couch can i sleep in my clothes?
cause ive spent the night dancing, im drunk, i suppose
if it looks like im laughing im really just asking to leave

you can watch me corrode like a beast in repose
cause i love all the poison away with the boys in the band

ive really been
on a bender and it shows
so why dont you blow me a kiss before she goes?

This song is tough to fit in with "The Cancer Patient" alter ego of this concept album.

I think it's just about realising what he has to deal with, in this instance cancer, and in awe of what will happen to him.

This is, to me, a flashback for The Patient, and he's thinking about the first time he'd come face-to-face with death, and it was in the form of someone close, possibly a friend or a lover or something of that sort.

For me, songs like this, Mama, Teenagers, Sleep, and to some extent, Disenchanted, show that The Patient is not a character one loves, it's a character one loves to hate. It's hard to figure out which you want to do, feel sympathy for the death of a young man, or the happiness that the monster is dead. But this is all just my opinion.

This is such a catchy song. It's really fucking good.

I agree and disagree with paper street. I think that the patient gave someone else a brush with death. His lover. I think his lover got drunk all the time, and cheated on him. "Cause I LOVE all the poison away with the boys in the band" love meaning sex with the boys in the band. The entire first verse looks like that: "It rains and it pours and your (his lover) out on your own." She comes home and crashes on the couch when he has been waiting up for her...
Then he gets tired of it and thinks about killing her, or maybe does kill her, depending on how you look at it. "Drop the dagger and lather the blood on your hands, romeo." and the chorus "give me a shot to remember...take all the pain away from me." Maybe the girl gets drunk and cheats on his because she hates her life and can't cope with it, and he gets past breaking point, aims a gun at her, and she wants him to pull the trigger, to take the pain away. Just my interpretation. The great thing about MCR albums is that they definitely tell stories but they leave a lot up to your imagination.

i think this is about the life the patient led up to and at the point he was diagnosed with cancer. he lives like a vampire, sleeping through the day and partying all night, getting drunk and doing lots of drugs. for example "give me a shot to remember", could be him injecting drugs, specifically heroin, maybe? and when he says "a light to burn all the empires", could be him talking about preparing the heroin on a spoon. the drug is so bad that it could collapse an empire.

i also think the patient sleeps with a prostitute in this as well, or at least a random girl from a club. the way he says: "so why don't you blow me, a kiss before she goes" and "one kiss and i will surrender". and also, he's afraid that this girl will leave him like everyone else seems to be, because of his actions ("so you can leave like the sane abandoned me").

basically, he's just afraid of losing everyone

I definitely like the above interpretations far better than what I originally thought.

That being, this was a cross between the patient being very much delirious due to whatever medicine he was on / a distorted flashback to something that happened to him.

I adore this song - It's my favourite from the album. I think, in a way, it's about what happened to The Patient in the past. I think it's about being in a love/hate relationship, or being stuck somewhere and having no choice but to stay with someone he, in the past, didn't really get on with.

I agree about how this song is abotu drugs and alcohol. It is most likely both Gerard and The Patient thinking back to when they were on drugs/alcohol. I'm a bit skeptical about the prostitute thing...but it does fit. I'm thinking more long the lines of a lover than a prostitute.
I like the interpretation of The Patient delirious off the meds.

i also think its about someone who spends their life drinking and doing drugs, even though everyone around them has lost patience with them,(if it looks like im laughing im really just asking to go). he knows he'll be thrown out for not taking being drunk seriously.(you,r the one that i need, im the one that i loath) same as before everyone is sick of his lifestyle.

sparkly-pink-fairy is right ,support mcr and they might even tour in the godforsaken music wasteland i live in. so think about it ,if you buy the cd you could be helping a tour starved country to realise its dream and see a decent band instead of the crap that you wouldint go to see if they were in your own backyard!

I think this is a song about love in drugs and addiction.

"Give me a shot to remember,
And you can take all the pain away from me.
A kiss and I will surrender,
The Sharpest LIves Are The Deadliest To Lead"

the patient remembering his life, his past, what remains, that final moment before death where he goes 'no damnit i dont want to die - let me live let me live' kinda thing. plus he's going mental. double meaning a reference to the alcohol adn drug abuse the band has faced, what the forming of the badn eventualy saved them from.

This song kind of reminds me of when my ex-bf asked me for one last kiss to remember me by.

"A light to burn all the empires
So bright the sun is ashamed to rise and be
In love with all of these vampires
So you can leave like the sane abandoned me"

Maybe that's just me though :-\

Either way it's amazing and is definitely my favorite song on the entire album
