Lyrics for Disenchanted as interpreted by A Red Hotel

Disenchanted Lyrics
Well i was there on the day
They sold the cause for the queen
And when the lights all went out, we watched our lives on the screen
I hate the ending myself,
But it started with an alright scene

It was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing
It was alive when they smiled and said,
"You won't feel a thing"
And as we ran from the cops we laughed so hard It would sting

Yeah Yeah, Oh

If i'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
how can you listen all night long?
(night long, night long)
How will it matter after i'm gone?
because you never learned a goddamned thing

You're just a sad song with nothing to say
About a life long wait for a hospital stay
Well if you think that i'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to you

I spent my high school career
Spit on and shoved to agree
So I could watch all my heroes sell a car on tv
Bring out the old guillotine
We'll show 'em what we all mean

Yeah, Yeah, Oh

If i'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
How can you listen all night long?
(night long, night long)
How will it matter long after i'm gone
Because you never learned a god damned thing

You're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait for a hospital stay
Well if you think that i'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to you

So go,
Go, just go, run away.
Now where did you run to? and where did you hide?
Go find another way...

Woah oh, Woah oh...

You're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait for a hospital stay
And if you think that i'm wrong, this never meant nothing to you, come on

You're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait For a hospital stay
And if you think that i'm wrong, this never meant Nothing to you

At all...
At all...
At all...

i really do love this song, i love the part

"You're just a sad song with nothing to say
About a life long wait for a hospital stay
Well if you think that i'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to you"

it's saying basicly that you live your life looking for sympathy and complaining. and that you sit there and listen to your friend tell you about things they believe in and shit, but you really don't give a damn.

i dunno thats just what it seems like to me - and it really reminds me of me and one of my best friends that i've known for literely my whole life, were two totaly different people, and she just doesn't remember or care about anything i say that means anything me.

I hate the ending myself,

made me think of their DVD life on the murder scean. i don't know why though

on a personal level (to gerard, not me), i definitely think this is about bert mccracken. since the lyrics were first leaked as shut up and play, i've been completely convinced that this song is about them.

bert's still doing a lot of stuff that gerard gave up, even though bert knows it will kill him, and gerard's trying to help him, but bert doesn't understand and is pushing the people who are trying to help away.
they had great times together, but bert is willing to throw it all away because he doesn't understand how to mature.

i can really tear into this song and dissect every line, but i'll save that for later.

i love this song. i saw mcr live about a month ago, it was so amazing...
they sang every song offof their new cd in order, which was kinda wierd, but it was cool still
this song and band means so much to me
i hate it that alot of people think that mcr is emo and they havent even listened to the lyrics because if they did actually pay attention for 2 seconds they would realize that some of mcr's songs lift you up, making you feel better about yourself. especially if you were made fun of for being "emo"
well yea i hate it when ppl judge mcr all the time.

I can just imagine a girl and a guy, theguy is so utterly in love with the girl he's blinded with it, The girl doesn't feel the same way, and she has lots of relationships which don't work out, no doubt looking for love, and when it all ends in tears the guy is the one left to pick up the pieces. (You never learned a goddam thing.) and i think that maybe, they sometimes have casual affairs and the guy, who is so wrapped up in his love for her, thinks that maybe he could live just being an object, as long as he could be her object.
This song makes my heart leap.

I agree with raine697 but I heard the album is about his parents' death so maybe the roles are switched and a mature guy is watching his dad die?

Just my thoughts, and I would bet money that Im wrong, but I thought it was about them in high school, and the "It was a lie when they smiled
and said "you won't feel a thing"" part was about him getting into drugs and all the other bad stuff they did then ("and as we ran from the cops"). And I agree with people who said that the "If Im so wrong, how can you listen all night long?" part was about people not listening to them, the real meanings of the songs, but still listening to the songs. I dont think along the same lines as veryone else, because they all say everything about the patient, and i know Im worng, but I dont see it that way. But then again, I am biased to not go along with the whole "Black Parade" theme, cause I dont like how theyre playing the part of the Black Parade...I like just regular (if you can call them that) My Chemical Romance. I just saw it as Gerard and the band reflecting on old times, and thats the way I like to see it.

It's reminiscent of hardships throughout the years and kind of a 'fuck you' to people that cut them down and didn't listen. My favorite line on the whole cd is in this song, even if it's not my favorite song. "I spent my high school career spit on and shoved to agree, so I could watch all my heroes sell a car on TV." Hahahahaha. It's about artists and musicians you love and look up to selling out for more money. I don't know exactly who they have in mind, but I love that lyric.

"Can anyone elaborate on the previous lyric? I get the high school part about how you need to go with the flow to be accepted, but i don't get the car salesman on tv or the guillotine part. Is it that he watched like his favorite sports stars go on to be on commercials etc.."
Gerard's said a couple of times when asked about this song that that particular lyric refers to him seeing his idols hawking products on TV when he was a teenager (and him swearing that he'd never do that if he got famous) and feeling that nothing was real about music anymore, and wanting to change it.

I think this is about a group of people who grew up, but were total trouble makers in high school. Now, they're no longer friends, but enemies as their lives have started to come to a screeching hault. Not only that, but they're starting to go at each other with hate, but regret at the same time...

Disenchanted: to cause somebody to loose interest.

i don't know what the first 2 lines mean:
Well I was there on the day
"They sold the cause for the queen
And when the lights all went out"

but the first verse i think means this:
When we die we get to see you life as it was. As if it was a movie.
He didn’t like the ending of his life, maybe it was how he died, or he did something he regrets. He likes the beginning better. This shows Life and Death, and life is winning. Its better to live then to be dead.

the second verse i think goes like this:
"It was the roar of the crowd...."

Remembering how good the feeling was to sing to people who cared.
People told him that he wouldn’t feel anything. Record producers come to mind, but it could be anyone. He remembers how he was as a kid, running from the cops, getting in to trouble. Being rebellious. So I guess he is sympathizing with the fans that don’t really “get it”. I think this show that he has grown up to be mature.

The chorus means:

"If I'm so wrong..."

To the fans that don’t get it, he is saying that it has to have meant something to you if you listen all night long. When he’s gone, will that be the proof that his songs meant anything to anyone. Cause they currently don’t seem to get it.

"You're just a sad song with nothing to say...."

He is talking about how his life is a sad song. All his life was disappointing. It seemed like he was just waiting to die. Like he didn’t do anything important. Like his lie was just a waste.

next verse:
"I spent my high school career..."

Hes thinking about when he was in high school. How “they” told you should live you life.in my opinion its like the school telling you “if you do good in school, you’ll have a good job” but he sees that the people he looked up to are just mediocre and not really special.

"So go..."

this reflects to how when things are going all wrong and you hate your life, you get that feeling of escaping it. Of leaving it. Of running away from your problems. And then you find out you don’t even know where your going where you are. Now you have to find a different way to live you life. Take a different direction. Start again.

now i know i could be completely wrong but thats what it means to me.
Its just talking about life and how you are dissatisfied with it and you need to change it.

In response to poserboarder:

The heroes selling cars on TV could possibly equal people that the singer highly respects being reduced to something much less heroic, like car salesmen. This is, of course, happening during a trying time for the singer. People might crush you, but you'll always have what you believe in. However, the singer is being let down by people he respects and therefore it's hard to believe in his ideals.

The "bringing out the old guillotine" line probably means something about taking care of an old grudge, showing their enemies "what they mean." If you bring out a guillotine, you mean serious business, lol.

The lyrics aren't literal so much as they're trying to make a strong point.

---------------------------------------

MY MEANING: The singer is basically saying that he went through an awful lot and made lots of mistakes, and it amounted to nothing since it was all too late before he realized it (because he's dying now). So, he's singing to others and if he's so wrong (in their opinion), why are they listening? And will his death even matter, because it's not like his life then or now, trying to warn others of his mistakes, is really making a difference. Obviously, if they think he's in the wrong then his message means nothing to them. So, "they're just a sad song" and eventually they'll be in the same, self-loathing position he is, "a life long wait for a hospital stay" since they're not learning anything from him.

Okay, this is the 12th track on The Black Parade, so it's kinda near the start of the story thingy (don't ask if you don't know what I'm talking about. If you do, good for you) so... right. I think it's like the patient is looking back on his life ("and when the lights all went out we watched our lives on the screen") and the "It was a lie when they smiled and said, 'You won't feel a thing'" bit reminds me of hospitals. Then the roar of the crowd, heartache to sing bit is like his career. And then "I spent my high school career spit on and shoved to agree" and "We'll show 'em what we all mean" bits were saying that he was pressurized in high school and one of the outcasts that nobody understood.

That's my view on things.

I think It's about his past friendship with Bert from The Used.
"Well i was there on the day
They sold the cause for the queen
And when the lights all went out, we watched our lives on the screen
I hate the ending myself,
But it started with an alright scene

It was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing
It was alive when they smiled and said,
"You won't feel a thing"
And as we ran from the cops we laughed so hard It would sting"

Gerard was remebering the past expirences with Bert.

"If i'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
how can you listen all night long?
(night long, night long)
How will it matter after i'm gone?
because you never learned a goddamned thing

You're just a sad song with nothing to say
About a life long wait for a hospital stay
Well if you think that i'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to you"

It shows that Gerard has tried to help Bert out of a situation, but Bert has never learned from it and that he doesnt understand the meaning of their situation.

I know this is late, but I agree with I Dont Love You. the beginning of the song reminds me of a Disney Movie too. I dont understand, but I can see a queen from I dont remember which disney movie, and when it says we watched our lives on the screen, it just brings an image to my mind of three guys laughing at one of those old movies where they have the big roll of film on the screen from the 70s or whatever. It's a disney movie that comes to mind on that screen too.

This is my favorite song ever next to I Caught Fire by The Used. The Used is my favorite band. Bert is my favorite singer. And I know this song is about Bert and Gerard. just like Pretty Handsome Awkward by The Used is about them. But the difference about those songs is that in Disenchanted. Gerard is showing he cares for Bert. But Bert doesnt care for Gerard. But its the exact opposite in Pretty Handsome Awkward, its sounds like Bert cares for Gerard, and Gerard doesnt care for Bert. I just wish they were still friends. But i will say this. I love The Used alot more than I love McR. But I agree with MCR that Bert really needs to settle down with the drinking and the drugs, cause just look at him. He's getting bigger, and he's loosing his hair and hes getting sick alot now. I dont want that to happen to him. somthing just isnt right. The Used and My Chemical Romance (especially Gerard and Bert) need to become friends again.

I agree that this is probably about Berty M... and with me beliveing that, the line "And as we ran from the cops we laughed so hard It would sting" makes me wanna cry a little, cause they used to be the cutest pair of BFF's, and now they're like... "rawr! i hate you!" i want the same Gerard and Bert we all had when they did "Prison" and covered "Under Preassure", not the new Gerard and Bert... with Bert cutting off his hair and dying it blonde... *coughcoughCOPYFUCKINGCATcough* and either i've been locked in a cave for a while or something, but i feel like Bert's become a bit more of an asshole lately... i say that cause of this interview i saw him in on Much Music on Monday... however, it was indeed, HILARIOUS... only cause Bert was being an asshole...

anyway, yeah, I MISS GERARD/BERT ='(
