Lyrics for Disenchanted as interpreted by A Red Hotel

Disenchanted Lyrics
Well i was there on the day
They sold the cause for the queen
And when the lights all went out, we watched our lives on the screen
I hate the ending myself,
But it started with an alright scene

It was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing
It was alive when they smiled and said,
"You won't feel a thing"
And as we ran from the cops we laughed so hard It would sting

Yeah Yeah, Oh

If i'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
how can you listen all night long?
(night long, night long)
How will it matter after i'm gone?
because you never learned a goddamned thing

You're just a sad song with nothing to say
About a life long wait for a hospital stay
Well if you think that i'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to you

I spent my high school career
Spit on and shoved to agree
So I could watch all my heroes sell a car on tv
Bring out the old guillotine
We'll show 'em what we all mean

Yeah, Yeah, Oh

If i'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
How can you listen all night long?
(night long, night long)
How will it matter long after i'm gone
Because you never learned a god damned thing

You're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait for a hospital stay
Well if you think that i'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to you

So go,
Go, just go, run away.
Now where did you run to? and where did you hide?
Go find another way...

Woah oh, Woah oh...

You're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait for a hospital stay
And if you think that i'm wrong, this never meant nothing to you, come on

You're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait For a hospital stay
And if you think that i'm wrong, this never meant Nothing to you

At all...
At all...
At all...

This song is supposedly "The Patient" reflecting back on his life. The begining shows that he remembers he had a good childhood but he's sad that all his life amounted to was a "lifelong wait for a hospital stay"

i think this song is about how he lived his life and had all these good times and bad times, just like anyone else, and now he feels like its all a waste because he has to stay in this hospital til his death.

The song mainly talks about losing a friend, or having a fall out with a friend. But this song means to me much more that just that, especially if you lost a friend that "you got it bad for" if you know what I mean...

"And as we ran from the cops, we laughed so hard it would sting..."

Sometimes I'd wonder how Gerard writes such stuff. It's just so...direct.

When I read these lyrics, I somehow get the feeling that The Patient is like talking to himself.. He firstly tells og thinks of his childhood, and then he reconsiders it by himself, wondering why he tells lies.. Or even if it's the truth, he wonders why he and other people even bothers to listen to him, because he thinks he is "just a sad song with nothing to say".. I actually think that makes sense, something I don't always do after I've thought about the meaning of a song.

My favorite song on this album :) I love the lyrics, it has a very "1979"-esp feel for me. That whole looking back on your life and the good and bad times. Amazing stuff

OK... I love this song, I'm not so sure this is about the patient though- I think it may be one of the other characters. The character looks back on his life and wishes he didn't waste it, it just felt like a "lifelong wait for a hospital stay"- and that his life meant nothing to the person he cared for most.

this is just my opinion

The song goes through the uselessness of the world, watching the replay of our lives when we die which started okay and got stuffed up in the end...the agony caused by peer pressure, how you cannot trust people who you call friends but are not really friends, getting in trouble and the excitement of risk taking, high school bullying and trying to be successful in the world.
Then Gerard goes on to sing about being 'wrong' meaning people didn't understand him and got judged without understanding him properly. He gets hurt by the way how people treat him like this, but at the same time, he believes he's right and it's the other people's loss if they misunderstand him but it's too late because he's dead. He believes that people aren't doing anything about their lives and are too complacent to just wait a lifetime to end up dying in a hospital. It seems like he has things to tell people so they can learn from him but they never listened or learned so to those people this song still means nothing to them.
He sums up that these people are just a 'sad song'. This song is really his way of getting back at those who hurt him- revenge in a subtle way, but it also makes you pity for him.

great song. best one on a good cd. i think this would do good as a single with a good video. the vid for FLW kinda lemme down.

as far as the meaning goes, i think its about the patient and his relationship problems, and him thinking of how long they've been together (im thinkin since high school, being outcasts together etc.) and all the argument together.
"If I'm so wrong, how could you listen all night long?"
i think what he's tryin to say is after all the problems they've had and her constant crys of him being in the wrong, she's still there at the end of the day/night, leading to the question.

at least thats what i think. could be/prolly wrong

really into mcr right now though

fix the lyrics btw

Wow. I have heard a lot of people thinking differently about this song.
I've heard...
At the begining it talks about how Gerard didn't want to be in the band.
Hate the ending.
Started with an alright scene.
I have also heard.
The patient.
They had just died. They are going up to heaven with the I.V.s still in their arms.
When they get high enough, the iv chords pull their arms and they get turned around and are sent down to hell.

I don't know what this song really means to me.
but it think this is one of the best fucking songs on the album.
It's really emotional and makes me think,
that's why I love My Chemical Romance, they make an impact on your life and make you think about their lyrics and what they stand for.
Like someone else said,
I also thought it stood for a falling out with The Used, but then the rest of the song wouldn't make sense. So I'm not sure anymore.

My Chem fuckin kicks ass (L)

The bit about "I hate the ending myself... alright scene" I think is quite sad, basically saying that the only good part of hisl ife was his childhood, or it could be interpreted to mean he enjoyed watching the replay of hsi birth, whic his kinda disturbing. "I ahte the ending" suggests it was a grim and painful death.

wow i didnt get non of that from this song this song to me (and this is just an opinion) is the band saying to all its listeners to be someone who has somthing to say, i guess like them, gerard in this song explains things he went through and how he still has something to say and he isn just a sad song and if you think that hes wrong and youre not a sad song with noathing to say then you dont need to worry about it but this is what it means to me

i the osng, to me, is about life (which is obvious). its about trying to please everyone and trying to be so perfect then realising it was all for nothing. your'e going to die anyway.

I think this song is about a guy who is dying and is looking back on his life, and doesnt like how it ended (i hate the ending myself) im not sure about the roar of the crowd part, but i think something bad happens to him and he goes to the doctors, and he knows that they're lying when they say he wont feel anything. And he thinks back on how he and his friends were kinda rebellious i guess (and as we ran from the cops...) And i guess people told him he was wrong about alot of stuff, but then they would listen to him talking, he most likely someone important. I think the line "your just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait for a hospital stay" is kind of like he's saying that its hopeless to wait for something for awhile if it hasn't happened yet and you should just except the things that happen to you, inside of trying to make it better when it's a lost cause.

And obviously the next part reflects on his life in high school and how no one cared about him or anything and "bring out the old guillotine we'll show 'em what we all mean" is about how he wants to get back at his enemies for being so wrong to him.

and yeah...thats what i think...its more than likely wrong, but whatever.

I forgot to put in what I thought it meant! I thimk it's supposed to be the patient nearing the end of his journey (it's the second to last song in the cd) and he's looking back on his life. "and when the light all went out, we watched our lives on the screen" The "light" is his life and he is talking about him being taken and looking at his life. "I hate the ending myself, but it started with an alright scene" He says he hates how he died so young, but thought that his life was okay when it started. It's kind of sad. When you listen to the song you could almost hear the mournfulness in it.
