Lyrics for Disenchanted as interpreted by A Red Hotel

Disenchanted Lyrics
Well i was there on the day
They sold the cause for the queen
And when the lights all went out, we watched our lives on the screen
I hate the ending myself,
But it started with an alright scene

It was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing
It was alive when they smiled and said,
"You won't feel a thing"
And as we ran from the cops we laughed so hard It would sting

Yeah Yeah, Oh

If i'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
how can you listen all night long?
(night long, night long)
How will it matter after i'm gone?
because you never learned a goddamned thing

You're just a sad song with nothing to say
About a life long wait for a hospital stay
Well if you think that i'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to you

I spent my high school career
Spit on and shoved to agree
So I could watch all my heroes sell a car on tv
Bring out the old guillotine
We'll show 'em what we all mean

Yeah, Yeah, Oh

If i'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
How can you listen all night long?
(night long, night long)
How will it matter long after i'm gone
Because you never learned a god damned thing

You're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait for a hospital stay
Well if you think that i'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to you

So go,
Go, just go, run away.
Now where did you run to? and where did you hide?
Go find another way...

Woah oh, Woah oh...

You're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait for a hospital stay
And if you think that i'm wrong, this never meant nothing to you, come on

You're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait For a hospital stay
And if you think that i'm wrong, this never meant Nothing to you

At all...
At all...
At all...

god this is such a good song. its one of those song that you can just be in any mood to listen to. i absolutely loved the new album, its tied with life on the murder scene as one of my favs but i think black parade is better because they kinda matured out of there "geeyar lets kill a bunch of people" to a more mature band that doesnt have to wear eyeliner to make a statement

i think this song is for those who think that the band wouldn't understand problems that they're going through.

"you're just a sad song with nothing to say"

and he's saying he does understand because of what he's gone through in life.

"i spent my high school carrer spit on and shoved to agree"

Great song. I think it's interesting that some people take away from it a falling out of father and son, or of fans and artist, a couple, or even just a general discomfort with high school. I came on this page to review it since this morning I was dreaming about an old heartache of mine who hurt me more than any other girl. It was one of those Jesus cockblocks where she was in love with me but too stubborn to go on without a miracle of proof that Jesus wanted us together. She was a sweet girl at least. Anyway, this song was so deep in my head that I was trying to sing it to her in the dream but I didn't know the lyrics that well.

In the couple falling out interpretation, I'd like to find a movie out there that fits the first few lines, like if we could tell what movie was being referenced and then know that general story of what his relationship was like with the girl in question if we found it. "I hate the ending myself, but it started with an alright scene." I'm sure that the song could mean a good number of things, but my feeling this morning as I woke up was just that stubborn unappreciative lover of your dreams feel for it. Now to explain this to my present day girlfriend... the reason I hate Jesus soo much ... and I fear about us... etc.

I really like this song personally. There is not many MCR songs I don't like really. Well I think that the song is sorta about a dude who takes a look back on his past and thinks about the fact that he never really did much in his life. He never learned anything from the number of mistakes that he has made. People question him, saying stuff along the lines of, "Your life as meaning. Your just trying to be emo and stuff." He responds by saying, "If you think that I'm wrong then you never really cared about me." Basically he says if you know me you know that I'm telling the truth. The first part about a movie is a metaphor for life. The end of his life sucks, and his early years were alright. His past didn't screw him over life did.

I never heard texts as amazing as Gerards! They're just so complex!
I wish I had his gift.
It always annoys me when I feel like writing a song and I just come up with lame, kliché stuff while Gerard's lyrics are so god damn fantastic!

this is a tough one. some parts i think it's about his past, his experiences and disapointments, disalusions(heros selling their songs on tv) these are lyricists who sold their songs to advertisers just for the money. you're just a sad song with nothing to say a lifelong wait for a hospital stay. what a kick in the ass that line is. i wonder if a parent used to say that to him or if he's actually saying that to his lover,i don't know where he ever heard it but it makes you want to get off your butt and do something productive with your life so you're not a life long wait for a hospital stay. it one of his strongest lines in a song. i agree with a little that alot of people said here. it's a song of reflection, about a relationship falling apart. sometimes i think it's a song of an adult saying this to his son, i just don't know.

i think that this song is about two people just falling apart.

they were high school rebels but he refused to give in to the pressure while she did.
she changed to meet everyone elses standards instead of being herself.
in the end though, he ended up getting in a lot of trouble with the cops.
[i think that the first two verses are about lethal injection and him watching
his life on the scene is like.. his life flashing before his eyes.]
he knows that he made mistakes but he doesn't regret anything because he had fun doing it
whereas when he sees her, he can see that she's slowly dying on the inside
["you're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait for a hospital stay"]
and that it would be better dying the way he is than the way she is.
he still loves her and he knows that she feels the same way about him
but she won't admit it or try to change the way things are.

[i think that when he says "it was a lie when they smiled, and said you won't
feel a thing" he's not talking about physical pain but more so emotional pain
because he's going through all the old memories they shared.]

it really is an amazing song. it's my favourite song off of the album. <3

it goes along with the concept of the album, as your dying you get a review of your life. and theres some things that you dont like and you did. if it werent for people, then you wouldnt discover what talents you have inside you. and sometimes you get tricked into silly things that shouldnt even happen. and when you try and run away from it, its gonna burn you in the end. and if youre friends dont care about you they dont really listen to you, but how could you tell if they are or not. and your life wasnt worth it to spend all of it as a cry for attention. and in all reality those friends didnt mean anything. the middle part of your life is the hardest. peer pressure is kicking in and its all pointless in the end. and when you come back for revenge, theyre all gone, or hiding

Haha I love how the beginning means alot of different things for people. I was reading through the comments and just laughing to myself because you need a REALLY talented band to create something like that. And I think the only reason that it is that way is because there is emotion in it.

Now, of course, I must give my take on the beginning =]
It reminds me of a late summer night, kind of heavy humidity yet it's a navyish-purple sky outside. And also, the setting seems to be a forest. And it smells sweet.
Don't ask x]

This song means a lot to me, if only for the lines:
"It was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing/it was a lie when they smiled and said "you won't feel a thing""
I remember my first time on stage, and how everyone told me it would be fine, it was going to be easy. It wasn't easy, and it felt amazing. I've been performing for years now, and that just sums up everything I felt getting up on stage to sing for the first time.
But this whole song sums up my high school experience. Leaving things behind, becoming something other then what you've spent years trying to be, and the people that never really understood you. It's a beautiful song. :)

This song's meaning is very simple. Bert led Gerard into bad habbits and now that he's out of them he's recounting on the good and bad times.

Umm....first, i just wanna say i think one of the lines in the second bit is wrong....i think i'm hearing:

"It was a lie when they smiled, and said you won't feel a thing"....i think that makes more sense, too?

Anyway...wow! This song is amazing....and i can relate it to my life at the moment perfectly, to be honest...every single word fits in with my situation. This song is incredible, my meanings to it are probably a lot different to everybody else's, but to me it's about looking back on something, or someone you've come across in your life.

A time that made you completely happy at some point in your life and the character is looking back on that time or person.

"I hate the ending myself," is for me, about looking back at that point in your life, and hating the way it ended, perhaps the good times just stopped or maybe it was on bad terms or something. For me i see myself and my ex ending our relationship because we kept having problems and knew that it wouldn't have lasted much longer. When i first heard that line i pictured the night we made our decision when we both sat in tears and just hugged each other all night. It also echoes what happened after that night, the actual moment where we did end up hating each other, because we both still had strong feelings for each other and while he tried to fight his, i wanted us to give it another shot and tried to make it difficult for him to ignore them. Eventually, he told me that he just couldn't see me anymore because it was too painful, and he was determined we wouldn't get back together, so i did end up losing him comepletely. This, i guess is "the ending" that i hate.

"But it started with an alright scene"- It began well, and it hurts now to look back at how happy it made you, even though there's no denying you did enjoy it, so you consider it "an alright scene" to try and dull down the sadness of losing moments like that.

I know that this probably isn't the actual meaning of the song, and that the following verses don't carry on this idea, but i just think that line is so prominent and had to comment.

In terms of the cancer patient theme of The Black Parade, i think this song folows his memories of life while he looks back on how his life has been.

"A life long wait for a hospital stay" kinda backs this up, because it's as if everything he has done in his life has been somewhat pointless, and just serves the purpose of filling the time until he goes into hospital for his final days. It kinda puts into perspective our lives and the fact that we are all just filling time, really. It seems to question the point, and i think this song actually has a good argument for this.

I feel like my comment is gettign WAAAAAAAY too long, so i'm going to stop now...i have more meanings for the rest of the song but i doubt anybody will even read all of this comment....i write too much!

but yeah, this song is amazing and i just felt that i should comment because it's absolutely an amazing song

*Before I start I just wanna say that I really like "Just another cog's" interpretation of it!*

Disenchanted is one of my favorite my chem songs. I remember hearing it my freshman year of high school (i will be a senior this year!) at their show when it was just "Shut up and Play." I think I relate to this song more than any other my chem song because to me it's about growing up in kind of a mundane place " Just so I could watch all my heros sell a car on tv" and always watching the people you believed in turn out to be fakes, but making something of yourself when you grow up and not letting yourself fall into those traps of turning out how everyone said you would. I think the chorus is showing that everyone who did'nt believe in you would'nt understand now. Because all those people who try and put you down in life don't really have alot of dreams of their own and are just living their lives because they have to. "Just a lifelong wait for a hospital stay."

I love where all the guys were coming from when they wrote this song. It seems very personal in a sense because they always talk about growing up in kind of a mundane place so its almost like a reflection on their own lives. I think the lyrics that most relate to them are "It was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing" It sounds like he just wanted something SO much. He just wanted to fufill one of his dreams. "It was a lie when they smiled and said you won't feel a thing" I think this line refers to the "suite" types that only care about making a buck and just want you to sign away your creativity and art. "heartache to sing" is one of my most favorite lines in the song.

I don't think I'll ever understand "the cause for the queen" line though. heh.
I'm not sure that this songs about Bert though, I just don't think Gerard would give them that much credit but I could always be wrong, right?
And also does anyone else think that this song would sound even better just being fully acoustic? I would love to hear them strip the song down one day.
Anyways, the song is amazing it's definately an anthem for the underdogs I think.

Eh, sorry... I accidentally submitted it before I was done...

I spent my high school career
Spit on and shoved to agree
So I could watch all my heroes sell a car on TV.
Bring out the old guillotine
We'll show 'em what we all mean

... This part always makes me want to cry. It's taking about when you are in high school, things are cruel, and there's a lot of peer pressure to become who you aren't and to have heroes that really don't deserve to be heroes - uncaring celebrities that are just in it for the money. And when you decide to be unique, they "bring out the old guillotine" and try to bring you down as much as possible.

Basically, I believe this song is about, literally, being "Disenchanted" when you escape the safety of your homes when you are young. You grow up doing what everyone else does to get in and you look up to people who don't deserve to be heroes in anyone's eyes, and then when you get out in the real world, you see all the ugliness, the in-acceptance this world has to offer. This is such a beautiful song, and every time I hear it it just makes me want to cry. MCR really gets a lot of things... they're amazingly clever, and this song just proves it.

I think this is my favorite song in the entire world; the meaning is so strong to me. Here's my interpretation of what it means:

"Well I was there on the day
They sold the cause for the queen
And when the lights all went out, we watched our lives on the screen
I hate the ending myself,
But it started with an alright scene"

.......... I think this part is talking about how so many people's lives are molded together, and no one is unique - "we watched our lives on the screen." I also think this part is about stereotyping, and when he says "they sold the cause for the queen," he's saying that the people lost the meaning in life to follow the crowd.

It was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing
It was a lie when they smiled and said
"You won't feel a thing."
And as we ran from the cops we laughed so hard It would sting

........I think when he says "it was the roar of the crowd... heartache to sing," he's talking about the shallow bands/singers out there who just perform for the fame. When it says "it was a lie when they smiled..." he's saying that they told kids in particular that if you go with what everything else is doing, it'll all be perfect... but it's really not.

If I'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
how can you listen all night long?
(night long, night long)
Now will it matter after I'm gone?
because you never learned a God-damned thing

... I think this part is talking about MCR themselves. They're asking, "If we're so dark, so bad, so WRONG, how can all of these fans truly care about us and say we save lives?" And when it says "Now will it matter..." it is saying that when they're long gone and not famous anymore, the people who don't dare to be different won't learn anything from their messages.

You're just a sad song with nothing to say
About a life long wait for a hospital stay
Well if you think that I'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to you

... this part, I believe, is about the bands who don't really have a message ("you're just a sad song") and the "life-long wait for a hospital stay" is about people not living life to its fullest and not making a difference in the world.

I spent my high school career
Spit on and shoved to agree
So I could watch all my heroes sell a car on TV.
Bring out the old guillotine
We'll show 'em what we all mean

... This part always makes me want to cry. Their tal

Yeah, Yeah, Oh

If i'm so wrong (so wrong, so wrong)
How can you listen all night long?
(night long, night long)
How will it matter long after i'm gone
Because you never learned a god damned thing

You're just a sad song with nothing to say about a life long wait for a hospital stay
Well if you think that i'm wrong,
This never meant nothing to you

So go,
Go, just go, run away.

This is my favourite MCR song hands down.

It just sounds to me like it's about someone who's just been living their whole lives to die, and maybe about people who said they didn;t like MCR's songs.

Haha, that makes more sense in my head.
