They're gonna clean up your looks
With all the lies in the books
To make a citizen out of you
Because they sleep with a gun
And keep an eye on you, son
So they can watch all the things you do

Because the drugs never work
They're gonna give you a smirk
'Cause they got methods of keeping you clean
They're gonna rip up your heads,
Your aspirations to shreds
Another cog in the murder machine

They said all teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They could care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me

The boys and girls in the clique
The awful names that they stick
You're never gonna fit in much, kid
But if you're troubled and hurt
What you got under your shirt
Will make them pay for the things that they did

They said all teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They could care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me

Ohhh yeah!

They said all teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They could care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me

All together now!

Teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They could care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me

General Comment:I always thought this song was about the US recruiting the kids for the military. Also because of the video.

My Interpretation:I think that this is about how adults find teens to act, and how their protests wont really do much good.....LOL I wear dark clothes and this stuff and I think my parents are worried......sucks 4 them. LOL. Guess this is what happens when you grow up in a lower middle class family.
It also points out the ludicrous nature of how parents try to control us. :>:(.
It also sorta says in the beginning how they "clean up their looks with all the lies and the books"-which means kids pose to impress their parents, which means they are becoming even worse people as their parents try to control them.
The harder they tighten the leash, the harder we try to pull away. just sayin............

Lyric Correction:Aren't the lyrics to the choruses "So darken your clothes, or strike a violent pose. Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me."

Pretty sure there's no "dock in" or "tuck in" your clothes, or "I'll strike a violent pose."

My Interpretation:It seems like a parent's view, or even an adult's view of teenagers. It doesn't seem like a teenager is saying that about themselves.

    General Comment:Everyone is overthinking it.

I saw them live last night, And realized how much this song is dissing on the over-the top fans and the "emo" label and the violence and self-hate associated with it.

"maybe they'll leave you alone, But not me!"

"Darken your clothes, Strike a violent pose"

Song Meaning:I think it's directed at most of the fans and other "emo kids". He's saying how most of his fans get away with not fitting in because they'll just be "emo". ("So darken your clothes, or strike a violent pose). Gerard is directing himself when he was younger or an outcast kid. This kid is staying true because he's not becoming "emo" (maybe they'll leave you alone but not me). "What you got under you shirt,
Will make em pay for things that they did!" could be referring to a gun, but I always thought it was referring to his heart <3. Anyway, I believe this song is generally about Gerard talking to the fans that don't like My Chem. b/c they're emo, but solely because they like the music. All the popular kids will watch them to tease them ("They gonna clean up the looks,With all the lies in the books,To make a citizen out of you,Because they sleep with a gun,And keep an eye on you son
so they can watch all the things you do". I think the chorus is directed at his "emo kid" fans. Maybe not. Thanks <3333 XD

General Comment:I think this song is at first about how adults never understand kids and they try really hard to make them ideal children, but it never works. I think the second part is about how some kids never fit in and get mistreated by other kids. They are being tested to fight back (whats under your shirt refering to a gun). The chorus is how adults feel about teenagers (they think they are just our to hurt others and wear dark clothes because they are just mean). This song is about how adults never truly understand kids.
