Lyrics for Teenagers as interpreted by A Red Hotel

Teenagers Lyrics
They gonna clean up the looks,
With all the lies in the books
To make a citizen out of you
Because they sleep with a gun
And keep an eye on you son
so they can watch all the things you do

Because the drugs never work
They gonna give you a smirk
'Cus they've got methods of keeping you clean
Their gonna rip up your heads,
Your aspirations to shreds,
Another cog in the murder machine

They said all
Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So dock in your clothes,
Or stike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
But not me

The boys and girls in the clique,
The awful names that they stick,
Your never gonna fit in much kid
But if your troubled and hurt,
What you got under you shirt,
Will make em pay for things that they did!

They said now
Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me
whoa yeah!

They said now

Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me

All together now!

Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me

Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me,
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me

this song is genius b/c the tune is so happy and light, like it was made by some guy named cheesy mcrocker, and the subject matter is so dark. Also what he has under his shirt is clearly a gun or a knife or some other deadly weapon, that'll "make em pay for things that they did!"

I read in a magaxine that gerard was in a subway and the teenagers in the subway were scarring him. He said tah he shouldn't have been afraid because they were the same people who were his fans but they scared him anyways. so he wrote this song about it. i think he was in london.

Seems we got some mixed feelings here. But, songs talk to people differently and that's okay.

To me, the first thing that comes to my mind when I read these lyrics is School Shootings. Here's why:

It talks about a teenager that doesn't fit in with all these different Cliques or Groups that make up all high schools.

But if your troubled and hurt,
What you got under you shirt,
Will make em pay for things that they did!

That part could be saying...Well, if you are hurting that much take that gun you are hiding under your shirt and make everyone pay for making you miserable.

They said now
Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So darken your clothes,
Or stike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone

That is like saying...Teenagers can get so upset about how they are treated at school (not fitting in) that they don't care what happens to them as long as someone bleeds, takes the beating, pays for their misery!

Okay, that is how I personally see it.

Obviously "And if you're troubled and hurt, What youve got under your shirt, will make them pay for the things they did" Is the character's reaction to bring a gun to school because of how much he gets teased and bullied

xxTheSharpestLifexx, i believe the line "what you got under you shirt" is talking about a gun. i think basically that second verse at least is talking about bullies at school and the "what you got under your shirt will make them pay for the things that they did" is making a threat against them.

in the first chorus u wrote dock in your clothes, aint it darken ur clothes...i like the idea of him seeing teens on the subway and gun crime, but i think it might also reflect a bit on his own teen years.

love him.

love this.

i think it's more about the government and the recent daily mail "emo" articles and saying bands such as mcr are emo and encourage self-harm and basicly this is about the government trying to change everyone to the same clean them up and obey all the rules because they are scared of them... well i think thats it anyway

I think this song is sort of about how adults think that wearing black is for teens because MCR says
"Maybe they'll leave you alone
But not me" and so I think they're saying leave us alone and don't judge people by how they dress or how they look.

I forgot to finish. Wow, I'm dumb. So what I meant to say was that they think that wearing black and everything is just for teens and adults frown upon the band because they're not "normal" pop-preppy bands like The Click Five or whatever. I LOVE THIS SONG!

I thought "whats under your shirt" was referring to a girls boobs, like she's under developed but eventually she'll get back at the guys with them. :)
(maybe thats just a girls pov)

Ow my god!!!!!!!! After what hapend in America a few days a go this song fits in SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good! One of my favorites!!! I actualy think that it is about kids killing kids in schools and all about laughing at the, making fun of them becouse they "don't fit in" and now that this song is a single and the vidio will be out soon people are going to say things like "my chemical romance are just making money on a tragedy" THAT SO SUCKS!

haha i so thought the same as 'lokieros'!!
when i first heard it i was like, he's either talking bout boobs or your heart..
then i finally figured out it was a gun
i felt silly!!
and i heard they delayed the release of the song becos of the Virginia tech stuff, and they didnt want people to think it was about that.. it'll be sad if people think they released it cos of the shootings!!
MCR are awesome, and this is my favourite song of Black Parade.. i was so happy when i heard it would be a single!!
[anyone eles think this song sounds a bit country??]

I think the first line is "clean up your looks", not clean up the looks.
And it's "darken your clothes", not dock in your clothes.

But otherwise, good. This is one of my favorite songs by MCR. =]

I love this song.
In history class, we had to write a poem about the holocaust and one girl used a bunch of song quotes including from this song "because they sleep with a gun" and "they could care less as long as someone will bleed" and people were saying how good it was and all she did was stick a bunch of song quotes together.
Plus I heard her singing the song the class before :P

This is certainly done in the general style of The Offspring, if not actually being an homage to a specific song.

This song is pretty much a lyrical diary entry from the perspective of one of the instigators of a high school shooting.

It's a dangerous song to get too absorbed in because it WILL relate to a lot of emo kids and lines like "what you've got under your shirt will make them pay for the things that they did", referring to bringing a gun or bomb to a school, may put some thoughts in kids minds.

I wouldn't be suprised if the commercial release of this song is put back because of the Virginia Tech shooting.

However there are some good parts to this song; in a media too afraid to give two sides of a story, its refreshing to see that My Chemical Romance aren't scared of media backlash and they actually show people WHY kids are bringing guns to school and killing people. Because if you haven't noticed, people don't do things without a motive.
