Lyrics for Teenagers as interpreted by A Red Hotel

Teenagers Lyrics
They gonna clean up the looks,
With all the lies in the books
To make a citizen out of you
Because they sleep with a gun
And keep an eye on you son
so they can watch all the things you do

Because the drugs never work
They gonna give you a smirk
'Cus they've got methods of keeping you clean
Their gonna rip up your heads,
Your aspirations to shreds,
Another cog in the murder machine

They said all
Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So dock in your clothes,
Or stike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
But not me

The boys and girls in the clique,
The awful names that they stick,
Your never gonna fit in much kid
But if your troubled and hurt,
What you got under you shirt,
Will make em pay for things that they did!

They said now
Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me
whoa yeah!

They said now

Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me

All together now!

Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me

Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me,
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me

"Dock in your clothes"?

I. Love. This. Song.

This is probably my absolute favourite song so far.

Also, use proper spelling and punctuation, please.
You're, not your. Your = possessive. You're = you are.

Just makes more sense. That's all.

Also, I love the theme of this song, and wish that adults would stop stereotyping teenagers. Kind of a piss off, really. One kid does drugs, drinks, (all around bad) and then the rest of us suddenly apparently do as well.

i believe that when Gerard sings this song, he is meaning that he hates teenagers due to his hard time being a teenager in his past life.

to me it sounds like a kid getting picked on so he comes with a conceiled gun
(The boys and girls in the clique,
The awful names that they stick,
Your never gonna fit in much kid
But if your troubled and hurt,
What you got under you shirt,(gun)
Will make em pay for things that they did)

or shoot your self or someone else ..

(Someone will bleed
So darken your clothes,
Or stike a violent pose)

ive been arguing with my mate about what the lyric
'But if your troubled and hurt, what you got under you shirt, will make em pay for things that they did!' means, i think it means a weapon under your shirt to hurt them as much as they have hurt you, but she thinks its cut scars from self harm!
i dunno which it is, but this is an amazing song, it shows the way teenagers, especially goths, (so darken your clothes) are seen, scary, violent, bla bla bla
its the best song on the album by far!!

i agree. its about adult/older people and their perspective of teenagers. how they see us. which is a total lie basicly.
as for it fitting into the cancer theme. hes prolly remembering his teenage years.?

I think the 1st line is talking about therapy, and authority figures, and the next about bullies and peer pressure.
What's so cool is he's trying to stop a school shooting (or whatever) cause he says:
"...so darken you clothes,or strike a violent pose. Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me!"
meaning that the kid could take revenge against them, but he'll still have the adult figures (who adore their "ttenagers"). He's trying to talk the kid out of a mistake.....SEE Gerards not ALL about death!!!!

And how does this song relate to the theme of Cancer? I do remember hearing an AOL music recording of this album's demo, and they were saying that this album is themed around death. It's a rock opera, and then there's this random song about kids wearing black clothes... hmmm... are we not trying to sell to the teen/preteen kiddies trying to fit in. God, why did I ever enjoy listening to Blink when I was younger? I feel like such a tool now.

YEah, Jesusfreak is right, it's about adults thinking all teenagers are likely to cut you and take your purse etc. Some stuff is confusing. What idoes a cog in the murder machine refer to, and do adults or teenagers not care less as long as someone'll bleed?

this song is obviously about like the government and just older people in general who think they know all about teenagers and want to transform us and make us grow up to be citizens. duh.

the lyrics are so plainly said. theres nothing to comprehend here. seriously people...
its so obvious!

and the authorities are scared of teens because they are able to be violent and they THINK they understand us but they know they really DONT.

duh.

Definitely about being scared of teenagers. I mean, they're intimidating!

Lol, and addressing school shootings, bullies, cliques, drugs, gangs, etc. ...Just big and small things one encounters as a modern teenager.

to tell the truth, i'm not a huge fan of MCR, but I went to projekt revolution in ATL yesterday, and they ... we're AMAZING. plus i saw Gerard walking past one of the sponsor's tents. I was like "NO WAY IT'S GERARD."

and he looked, DAMN sexy last night. :]

if you haven't seen them live, it'll make you love them more.

they earned a fan last night.

MCR is the band of the moment, and so was Nirvana. The difference is that Smells Like Teen Spirit opened the floodgates of change for rock music. Teenagers is just a catchy tune.

THIS SONG IS NOT BASHING TEENAGERS OR MCR FANS! It's just commenting on the unfair labels and stereotypes placed on teens, as well as school shootings.

Teenagers is probably the closest thing the 21st Century has to its "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

You know, out of all the songs I've commented on, I could care less what other people say about this one. I heard it once and started laughing really hard because I'm 19 and i went through my whole "darkening my clothes" phase...and I still am part of it. I know some people get frightened by this generation and how these kids are becoming and I dont blame them. Too many kids are carrying around weapons. This is definitely about teenagers in general and my favorite of ALL MCR songs...which is big because i never chose a favorite before with them. I love this band and their music. They're so amazing. Kudos to Gerard for writing something as killer as this. The video is hilarious...i love the fact he went back to black hair...his blonde was okay on him but black is better. I can totally relate to this song and the point of view of this song.

I also really love the old sound the bands these days are taking. I mean, the pop singers started it (Christina) but now MCR and Mika and Amy Winehouse...i love this new approach. We're pushing the newer generations into appreciating older music and they dont realize it. They just accept what they hear and go with it. Compare "Rehab" to an old song from the 50's or 60's jazz and it'll sound close to similar. Anyways, this song is amazing, the band is amazing...I'm glad they're talking about stuff that's real instead of talking about "hoes and pimps and grills and g-strings".

Anybody seen the gay MTV video where they censor out EVERY SINGLE WORD of this song? I didn't know that "gun," "murder," "your shirt," and "pay" were swear words!
