Lyrics for Teenagers as interpreted by A Red Hotel

Teenagers Lyrics
They gonna clean up the looks,
With all the lies in the books
To make a citizen out of you
Because they sleep with a gun
And keep an eye on you son
so they can watch all the things you do

Because the drugs never work
They gonna give you a smirk
'Cus they've got methods of keeping you clean
Their gonna rip up your heads,
Your aspirations to shreds,
Another cog in the murder machine

They said all
Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So dock in your clothes,
Or stike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
But not me

The boys and girls in the clique,
The awful names that they stick,
Your never gonna fit in much kid
But if your troubled and hurt,
What you got under you shirt,
Will make em pay for things that they did!

They said now
Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me
whoa yeah!

They said now

Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me

All together now!

Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me

Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me,
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
So tuck in your clothes,
I'll strike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone
but not me

Somehow I think they are making fun of 'emos' and HxC kids.
"Darken your clothes.
Or strike a violent pose"

Most kids do that. The light hearted-ness makes it seem like a pseudo-parody song.

Also, I think the lines;
"But if your troubled and hurt,
What you got under you shirt,"

Stands for people cutting themselves.
So, people would have cut marks on their chest or under their sleeves...
Just a thought..

this reminds me of monty phyton meets michael moore. the total paranoia of wrinklies of any teen a little bit different is totally captured. emo, metal, hippie ,adults will allways have a problem with those who dare to be different because they dont fit in any one mould. thank god!

In the special edition of The Black Parade, which comes with a 70-something page book, Gerard explains that during his stay in New York he would be on the subway where heaps of teenagers would flood in. He said he would almost get panic attacks because they made him so nervous, so he just hid his head and wrote lyrics. I'm guessing this is more than likely where this song came from.

Also,
"but if your troubled and hurt
what you got under your shirt?
We'll make 'em pay for the things they did"
does NOT refer to cutting.
It refers to hiding a gun under your shirt.. obviously related to different school shootings because of kids who were bullied (supposedly) took their revenge out on everyone

When I first heard this song i started laughing. I am a teenager, and i think its funny that we really do scare a lot of people even other teenagers sometimes.

the begining i think relates to me though
"their gonna clean up your looks with all the lies in the books to make a citizen out of you"
to me that has something to do with the way i feel, i feel my parents want me to be a "normal girl" whos fav. color is pink or who weres dresses or something, they've tried for a while, so thats where i get the looks thing from, and the books is like in school or other things like that...,and they all want you to be a good acceptable citizen, which most teenagers wont become a perfect citizen.

with the "so darken your clothes or strike a violent pose"....i wear a lot of black, its my fav. color, my nails are black and stuff, my hair isnt, i'm not emo or goth or anything, but i scare people with the way i dress and act, but whatever, i'm not into drugs or anything though.. so i dont really like the whole darken your clothes thing. but whatever.
its a really good song though! it gets stuck in your head really easily though, so i have been going around for a while singing it.

I think the thing that the "teenager" has under his shirt, would mean physical stregnth, or a gun. MCR really put themselves out there to make a song like this. It really hits home, me being a teenager, and seeing these types of things every day. "The boys and girls in the clique, the awful names at the stick, 'You're never gonna fit in much kid'.."
Amazing, and it says the truth directly, no matter how much you provoke them, or ask them to stop, it never will, not until it gets physical. Teenagers are the scariest part of society. Anyway, great song. Can't wait to go to the Richmond show.

Ok, so have you guys ever heard of the Columbine Incident at that one school. Major gun violence, because of like 2 kids.
This song is about that, "what you got under your shirt will make them pay for the things that they did" is basically describing the classical teens that all belong in cliques. Maybe the patient was the odd one out. What you got under your shirt is not referring to fat, or heart, but a gun.
So, when they talk about "strike a violent pose" and all that, they are meaning that if you come off as an emo kid, or something of that, you might not get shot. Lol very interesting meanings though.

As others have said, I think this song is totally a dig at all of the scenester emo fantards of My Chemical Romance. It got me to laugh the first time I heard it; definite props to them since I originally didn't have high hopes for this album (because of the same scenesters this song makes fun of).

Whee.

Raine697's idea for the song is wonderful- I enjoyed reading her/his opinion.
>.>
My first impression of the song was that they were saying that even though we're expected to live up to society's standards we shouldn't collapse under the pressure of it and just live our life no matter how close of an eye they have on us.
But- i'm not so sure about the story though as I haven't seen it yet.

it's about the "patient" being a teenager,

They gonna clean up the looks,
With all the lies in the books
To make a citizen out of you
Because they sleep with a gun
And keep an eye on you son
so they can watch all the things you do
(maybe he was a a loser at one point and the "popular" kids tried to change him and make him one of them)
Because the drugs never work
They gonna give you a smirk
'Cus they've got methods of keeping you clean
(maybe the drugs signafy him going back to being a loser?)
Their gonna rip up your heads,
Your aspirations to shreds,
Another cog in the murder machine
(their ripping who he is apart and breaking him down?)
They said now
Teenagers scare,
The living shit out of me
They can care less as long as,
Someone will bleed
(teenagers don't care about anyone but themselfs, and the only time they care about someone elses life is when their trying to fuck it up)
The boys and girls in the clique,
(The popular kids)
The awful names at the stick,
(labeling or calling someone a fag)
Your never gonna fit in much kill
(no matter how hard youu try you'll never be "popular")
But if your troubled and hurt,
What you got under you shirt,
Will make em pay for things that they did!
(basicly sounds like "if your pissed off enough take a gun to school and kill them)

I love their new cd and this song but ii hate how to some people it can seem like mcr are telling themm to shoot up their schools.

i think this song is about how when gerard finished 3 cheers he was kinda really anxious and scared of most things, one being teenagers.
to me, it basically means that teenagers try to act so dark and tough,
(So darken your clothes,
Or stike a violent pose,
Maybe they'll leave you alone)
and that they are obsessed with morbid concepts
(as long as someone will bleed)

i may be wrong though...

i think its kinda funny that thousands of teenagers love this song, and its basically teasing them.. hehehe
i love this song, its so awesome! cant wait to see them at Big Day Out!

I think this song is something that most teenagers can relate to in some way or another....I don't think they are really making fun of anybody or anything like that....when he says "what you got undr your shirt will make them pay for the things that they did" I think it means either a gun or drugs and I think that the "they" that they are talking about are like parents and stuff....also, I wish people would stop saying "the awful names at the stick" it's "the awful names THAT THEY stick"

Can I just say, its not Dock in your clothes, its darken your clothes ! :) lol. And I think that basically the song is about people trying to make everyone fit in, and its about the "misfit" teenagers, really. And the kid is trying to get back at the people who made fun of etc the person, by killing them, or hurting them. ahah. That made me laugh, about it being light hearted. haha. But yeah, its one of them songs that sound bouncy and fun, but when you listen to the lyrics its like, oh shit. :( lol But yeah, its a really good song and one of the best from MCR. And, I'm not a big MCR fan, but I'm liking some of their new stuff
