Lyrics for Sleep as interpreted by A Red Hotel

Sleep Lyrics
Some say now suffer all the children
And walk away a savior
Or a mad man and polluted
From gutter institutions
Don't you breathe for me
Undeserving of your sympathy
'Cause there ain't no one way
That I'm sorry for what I did

And through it all
How could you cry for me?
'Cause I don't feel bad about it
So shut your eyes
Kiss me goodbye
And sleep
Just sleep
The hardest part is letting go of
Your dreams

A drink for the horror that I'm in
For the good guys and the bad guys
For the monster that I've been
Three cheers for tyranny
Unapologetic apathy
'Cause there ain't no one way
That I'm coming back again

And through it all
How could you cry for me?
'Cause I don't feel bad about it
So shut your eyes
Kiss me goodbye
And sleep
Just sleep
The hardest parts
The awful things that
I've seen

Just sleep
Just sleep
Just sleep
Just sleep
Just sleep
Just sleep
(Lie down)

This is my favourite song on the album. The drums are amazing. And I believe it is about night tremors, and all the different things that the night tremors brought on him. So he decided to not sleep anymore, and people feel bad for him. but he dosn't mind the insomnia because it stops the tremors, but he misses his dreams.

i think its how different people see the different sides of his personality, the good and the bad.hes done bad things that haunt him in his sleep but he accepts responceability for them and cant change them so he drinks to forget.
he regrets that he did'nt lead a better life so the terrors are punishment, each one takes him deeper into despair until before long he'll never wake up.

they're these terrors. and it's like, it feels like as if somebody was gripping my throat.
uh, they're not like tremors, they're more than tremors. they're- they're these terrors.
[something i can't understand.]
uh, they're not like tremors, they're more than tremors. they're- they're these terrors.
and it's like, it feels like as if somebody was gripping my throat and squeezing
and it's like, it feels like as if somebody was gripping my throat.

sometimes i have these dreams and sometimes i see the people that i love dying."

that's all i can get, after that gerard starts singing over it. hope it helps.

Crazy theory, but here it is:

There is a dying patient in the hospital. He is staying alive for his friend ("Dont you breathe for me").
His friend is hurt so badly, that he has become numb to his friend's death ("'Cus I dont feel bad about it").
The friend feels responsible for the patient's pain, for keeping him alive, but tells himself that he doesnt care ("'Cus their aint no one way That im sorry for what i did!") but he really does, knowing that if he shows it, the pain will just be too much ("And could you cry for me?").
He sits at the hospital bed with a glass of champagne, having his last drink with his friend, dedicating it to keeping his friend alive and in pain. ("A drink, for the horror that I made").
He has an internal conflict, selfishly wanting his friend to stay alive, but knowing that he is hurting him ("For the good guys and the bad guys")

"Three cheers for tyrany,
Unapologetic apathy,
'Cus their aint no way,
That im coming back again"

Probably the most emotional lyrics in the whole song:
These lyrics show how much the friend cares for the patient, despite his want not to. Every time he visits his friend, he starts to feel emotion, pain, and guilt for keeping his friend alive, even though he wants to remain apathetic to his friend's demise. He decides to "do the right thing" and let his friend die, no longer in pain, by leaving and never coming back again. ("Kiss me goodbye") also fits in to this theme of leaving and never coming back.

Finally,
"And sleep,
Just sleep,
The hardest part is letting go off
Your dreams"

He wants the patient to die, let go of life, and rest in peace. ("letting go of your dreams") referrs to the dreamless sleep of death.

Okay, If you guys got the Like .99 download before hand release of the black parade it came with a special section (Half an hour, and yes I listened to the entire thing) about the New album.. This song is basically about Gerard's night tremor's he had while they were recording. The album. "The song was actually inspired by these nightmares that I use to have at the Paramour, way worse than nightmares, actually, way worse than night tremors, it was just like these things where I feel like my heart is stopping, it feels like I was being choke, I wasn't sleeping, I was sleeping like a half our a night." -Gerard
"Sleep (The music) is inspired by the "Toto" song of the dune Soundtrack." ^^ Hope this helps.

the recording at the beginning is similar to say anything's "belt" but without as strong of an impact or lyrically as brilliant.

This song, and most other songs in this album, is about how the band has changed, and the emo kids who used to love them, don't like them anymore.

Imagine you're one of the emo kids who listen to the three cheers and bullets, and feel the songs so much they start to cut themselves. And listen to this song. Hes speaking directly to his fans.

Gerard never wanted people to be so apathetic, so much so that they start to cut themselves and all, and he feels he does not deserve their symphathy.

Yet, he doesn't feel bad about what he's done.

He wants you all to just go to sleep.

Thats what I feel this song, and songs like "I don't love you" and even "The Black Parade" means.

Sorry, I mean emphathetic. I think thats what he says.

Though It could be emphathy as well, it still makes sense, it would mean he doesn't care how you feel

I thought it was like this:

The patient realizes that he's been a bad person and doesn't care about that, but people are suicidal because of him. The only honorable way to save everyone is suicide, but when he does it they save him and make him live. He doesn't understand why they're doing all of the things they're doing and wants them all to just give up and leave him to die alone.

i think that this song is a follow on from Mama... in mama it refers to war and death and the patient killing others... this song is a reflection... he can't sleep cause of the night terrors, that might have been due to the horror he has seen in war and killing people. the song also points out that he has done somehting really bad, which is explained in mama... i hope people get where i am comming from... i just see it differnetly cause it is a concept album so you have to look at the songs all together, not as individuals.

I think it begins something similair to:
"-these terrors. and its like, it feels like as if somebody was groping my thraot-" "-these terrors, snd its like, it feels like as if somebody was groping my throat-" and then it sounds something like "-night but not like tremors, worse than tremors sir, are these terrors-" "-last night, but not like tremors, worse than tremors there are these like terrors, and its like, it feels like as if somebody is groping my throat, squeezing, and-" "-eels like as if somebody is groping my throat-"

although the album is supposed to be about the patient, i honestly don't think this song has anything to do with that character. more like you other people said, gerard's experiences in that haunted place they stayed while recording the album or whatever. this is definitely not the least BIT a weak song. actually one of the more powerful songs on the album. the emotions are so intense during it, i don't see how some of you cant recognize them!!
definitely one of my favorites on the album.

Yes Bekarr!!! Heard it in my car yesterday - turned the player up really loud and can hear it, just!! I have been listening to this album for the past couple of months and only just got into this track. It is really interesting to read where the lyrics may have originated from. I usually do the thing of working out what it means to me - I think that this person in the song has done something that has been a bit immoral, but they did it because it felt right at the time, and although they know that it was wrong, they don't regret it at all as they were somehow making a statement!! 'There ain't no way that i'm sorry for what i did.....'

it wasn't that it was haunted. I don't think that was it. Because i read in Alternative Press that they were staying in some mansion thing, and Mikey started getting depressed, he was there for like a month and he started hyperventalilating and having nervous breakdowns, so he left, but he would come by in the morning but he wouldn't stay the whole night. And after he left, the band was pretty much like "omg what are we gonna do?!?"and it says that Gerard stopped showering and changing clothes and just walked around the halls, and was having less than 3 hours of sleep per night, and his dreams were of terrors, like stuff burning. And he recorded them on a portable recorder. so i don't think the dreams happened because of the house, but because of the emotional state the band went to after Mikey left...but i suppose its not all bad because while he was walking the halls when he couldnt sleep, he went into ray's room and they started putting together Famous Last Words.
