Lyrics for Mama as interpreted by AbsolutionAgent_gMs

Mama Lyrics
Mama, we all go to hell.
Mama, we all go to hell.
I'm writing this letter and wishing you well.
Mama, we all go to hell.

Oh, well now, Mama, we're all gonna die.
Mama, we're all gonna die.
Stop asking me questions, I hate to see you cry.
Mama, we're all gonna die.

And when we go don't blame us, yeah,
We'll let the fire just bathe us, yeah,
You made us oh so famous
We’ll never let you go.
And when you go don't return to me my love.

Mama, we're all full of lies.
Mama, we're meant for the flies.
And right now they're building a coffin your size.
Mama, we're all full of lies.

Well Mother, what the war did to my legs and to my tongue,
You should have raised a baby girl
I should have been a better son
If you could coddle the infection, they can amputate at once
You should’ve been
I could have been a better son.

And when we go don't blame us, yeah,
We'll let this fire just bathe us, yeah,
You made us oh so famous,
We'll never let you go.

She said "you ain't no son of mine"
For what you done they're gonna find
A place for you and just you mind
Your manners when you go.
And when you go don't return to me my love,
That's right.

Mama, we all go to hell,
Mama, we all go to hell,
It’s really quite pleasant except for the smell,
Mama, we all go to hell.

Mama, Mama, Mama, ohhhh.
Mama, Mama, Mama.

Liza: And if you would call me your sweetheart, I'd maybe then sing you a song.

Gerard: But there's shit that I've done with this fuck of a gun,
You will cry out your eyes all along.

We’re damned after all.
Through fortune and fame we fall.
And if you can stay then I’ll show you the way
To return to the ashes you call.

We all carry on,
When our brothers in arms are gone,
So raise your glass high, for tomorrow we die,
And return from the ashes you call.

I think the war thing is the most accurate. I think it's kind of like because he was fighting in a war he felt dirty and contaminated from killing people and the sights he saw.
"Mother what the war did to my legs and to my tongue" I think the legs thing is a physical wound whereas the tongue thing is just how it make him think differently and be more sharp-tongued towards people almost to the point of being nasty.
"You should've raised a baby girl, I could have been a better son" This sounds a lot like WWII, and I don't think women were really on the fighting lines during that time. The better son thing sounds more like his whole life, that he's always been messed up and that maybe he thinks girls are less corruptible.

After the second chorus I think it's like he's accepted his fate, he knows he's going to hell and that he's a fuck-up and he's kind of falling into the role, like with the Liza Minnelli part his response is sincere in a really biting way, like he wants to protect her [his mother] because he knows he'll mess her up.

"Through fortune and fame we fall" might be a reference to soldiers in general, like when they die they're glorified and their families get money [I think] and stuff but they're still dead, which is like the last stanza.

Well, Mama, we all go to hell.

This song made the album for me. I lost my mother early on to drug addiction and we left her behind. She's still alive, but this song sums up my feelings for her. Especially, "You ain't no son of mine!' as those were the last words I remember being told by her.

It reminds me of the book "Johnny Got His Gun" by dalton Trumbo. Very disturbing. I heard this song for the first time last night on a promo for the Sopranos on A&E and the first thing I thought about was the main character from 'Johnny" There's also a film of the same name starring Jason Robards. the film and book by the way, were the inspiration for Metallica's "One".

Ok. I'm probably totally wrong. But I think this song is actually about like.....his mom is like one of those women who are like freakishly religios and think that just about every1 but her is going to hell. and there saying she's going 2. (and right now there building a coffin your size) in recrtospect i'm probably wrong....but my idea is better than SUM people on here's.

I think this is about a soldier sharing his war-induced existentialist depression with his mother.

You can tell they were inspired by Pink Floyd. The song sounds a bit like "The Trial".

I think that it's after the patient has been put to sleep (in Sleep) and he's dreaming, remembering things that bad he has done in and out of the war and how his mother would feel.

it sounds like at the beginning he is talking to his mom about how he thinks he is going to hell for killing so many people and how his other soldiers friends are going to. pretty much the end sounds like he and the other soldiers are drunk in a bar, like mentioned before, and they are all getting drunk because they have to go to battle tomorrow and think they are going to die.

Super amazing song! It's so powerful and mesmerizing. The addition of Liza is breathtaking. The music in the background and Gerard's vocals all add up perfectly. One of my favorite songs, from my favorite band

i think its what the Patient would be saying to his mother if he could. he may have been in a war and was writing this "letter" to his mother.

one of the best songs on their album. i think this song has the most of their old sound mixed in with their new. i love it!!

Is this song about war cause it says
"mama we all go to hell" which might mean their all goin to hell cause they've killed people-
"I'm writing this letter and wishing you well"maby meaning hes in the war and writting a letter to his mum saying whishing her well and basicly sayin hes still alive-
"mama we're all goin to die" - in the war-
"well mother what the WAR did to my legs and to my tounge"meaning he swears more ( i think ) and maby ,just maby, the leg bit ment he had to get his leg amputated cause l8r on in the song it says" if you could coddle the ifection they could AMPUTATE at once"-
AND..it says"you should have raised a baby girl" because girls didn't have to fight in war
AND,FINALLY IT SAYS....."well theres shit that i've done with this fuck of a gun"-guns get used in war
so i think maby this song might be about the war

When I listen to 'Mama' I think of pirates in like an old saloon getting trashed and singing about their mama's.

In terms of The Black Parade, I see it as the Patient before he is in the hospital and dying. I think of it as him going to a bar and sitting alone. Ordering drink after drink singing about about his mother who didn't care about him.

I think wherever the patient is, he is in a place where no one knows him. Maybe he was famous or maybe he's a broken down soldier and getting ready to go to war.

By the end of the song where it reach, "We're damned after all..." he has the place all roared up and they are singing this song with him. Maybe he is seeing about his death whether it be from cancer or something else. And I think at the end of the song is kind where everything falls apart and he drops dead or falls unconcious...which brings him to the hospital.

In my opinion the album does tell a story but it is out of order. Could be just me...

I have so many theories on this album...but I love it so much. I literally listen to it everyday...it is my anti-depressant...

This song kinda reminds me of the book, The Ninth Life of Louis Drax, what with the relationship between Louis and his mother? I know the lyrics probably has something to do with war, but that book just comes to mind when I listen to this song. Especially the line "I could have been a better son" cause Louis mother tried to kill him.

Great song. I think the part where he is crying out 'mama, mama, ohh mama' is fantastic. This song has such a depressing tone. Its like he's all grown up and he's seen all this horrific stuff in war or wherever, and he can't even accept the comfort of his own mother which in turn upsets her. Theres a detachment between the two of them. He feels like a dissapointment in her eyes.

i find it interesting that so mant people relate mama to WWII. ive lways related it to much more recent tims i.e the war in iraq. but now that ive heard of the german/holaucaust theory, maybe mama is about both. emphasising that the same damn thing is happening again. i dont know its just a theory. also, i agree with mama being mother war, not his biological mother. at first i saw her as the mother country, sending her children to war sort of thing. is that the same thing?

Because I never heard the whole album in order I never picked up that the songs told a story, which I think it's neat because even stories we can relate to like songs and derive meaning anyway. Who knows? Maybe they are dying to write a musical...but then a bunch of dumb angry anti-MCR metal kids will take down the there and protest...and then Gerard and his band will write a song about it :D

Whenever I hear this song, at find it was hard to relate it to war really, but then there was those last lines and well...interesting. The part about "they're building a coffin your size" maybe relates to that even civilians are victims of war, in reality most victims of war are civilians.

I think this song is about when your parents are playing with you, they try to make you be what they picture in their minds and then when you aren't what they picture they manipulate you and make you feel like theres something wrong with you. Your mom saying, "and if you would call me a sweet heart I'd maybe then sing you a song" in other words if you be what I want you to be then I'll stop telling you about what a horrible person you are "but this shit that I've done with this fuck of a gun you would cry out your eyes all along" in other words but the things that I've done weren't perfect, weren't good, weren't right to you, in your eyes, so you better leave me alone now because "you would cry out your eyes all along" "mama we all go to hell" I think that he's saying you've critisized all my life, always pointing out all the bad things about me, never the good, you've always been saying how horrible the world is, so guess what I'm agreeing with you, we all go to Hell.

its sort of like a fuck you to all you say and all the things you say that I should improve on I'm gonna keep on being who I want to be no matter what you say.

It could just as equally represent war, but to me, what I'm going through right now, thats what it comes across as.
