Lyrics for Mama as interpreted by AbsolutionAgent_gMs

Mama Lyrics
Mama, we all go to hell.
Mama, we all go to hell.
I'm writing this letter and wishing you well.
Mama, we all go to hell.

Oh, well now, Mama, we're all gonna die.
Mama, we're all gonna die.
Stop asking me questions, I hate to see you cry.
Mama, we're all gonna die.

And when we go don't blame us, yeah,
We'll let the fire just bathe us, yeah,
You made us oh so famous
We’ll never let you go.
And when you go don't return to me my love.

Mama, we're all full of lies.
Mama, we're meant for the flies.
And right now they're building a coffin your size.
Mama, we're all full of lies.

Well Mother, what the war did to my legs and to my tongue,
You should have raised a baby girl
I should have been a better son
If you could coddle the infection, they can amputate at once
You should’ve been
I could have been a better son.

And when we go don't blame us, yeah,
We'll let this fire just bathe us, yeah,
You made us oh so famous,
We'll never let you go.

She said "you ain't no son of mine"
For what you done they're gonna find
A place for you and just you mind
Your manners when you go.
And when you go don't return to me my love,
That's right.

Mama, we all go to hell,
Mama, we all go to hell,
It’s really quite pleasant except for the smell,
Mama, we all go to hell.

Mama, Mama, Mama, ohhhh.
Mama, Mama, Mama.

Liza: And if you would call me your sweetheart, I'd maybe then sing you a song.

Gerard: But there's shit that I've done with this fuck of a gun,
You will cry out your eyes all along.

We’re damned after all.
Through fortune and fame we fall.
And if you can stay then I’ll show you the way
To return to the ashes you call.

We all carry on,
When our brothers in arms are gone,
So raise your glass high, for tomorrow we die,
And return from the ashes you call.

Hey, I_Dont_Love_You, I totally get what you're saying. You're not crazy, but my vision's a bit different. I see like Russians or Germans dancing around singing and Jerard is in the middle, singing to an old lady in a rocking chair and crying because her son has returned from the war with only one leg. I don't really know what this song is about, but I sort of get the feeling that it might have something to do with going off to war and coming back with a deeper realization and understanding of life and how things are. He has lost his boyish innocence now and is sort of bitter now that he knows the truth. I really love this song. One of the best of the new album.

This song is when the Patient is in the Black Parade. He sees the character "Mother War" and sees that in her he sees she is a mirror of his own mother. Remembering her Mother he sees all the hatred she had and how abusive she was to him. She despised him "She said "you ain't no son of mine"" In a way you can interpret in this way after but it is believed the Patient is getting revenge on his Mother possibly killing her, writing her a mean letter, or confronting her. But you can really tell this song is about an abusive mother who did not like her child.

I sort of agree with Bluestopsign. especially when it goes "You should have raised a baby girl, I should have been a better son." Sorta like He feels that if he had done better she would have loved him more or something.

hmm..The first time I heard this song i always thought of it being about a guy in a mafia or whatever..like from Italy cause they always call their moms "mama" lol. His mom doesn't like that he's in the mafia, hense the "She said you aint no son of mine".
Anyway, Gerard maybe shot a guy from another mafia gang and now their mad at him and going to kill his mom - "And right now they're building a coffin your size". At the end it sounds to me like Italian music and he's crying because they did kill his mom :(

...maybe im just weird cause I didn't read any other comments with my theory, but whatever cause i like my version :)

i have a completely different view of this song compared to everyone else, which is probably wrong but i think, this song is comparing the band's fame and what they have done while they are famous to wars such as the holocaust. the band feels consumed by fame and it is taking them over.

i reached this conclusion from firstly the line "We’re damned after all. Through fortune and fame we fall." which means that becaue of thier life they are currently living they will be a possession of the public rather then themelves.

i dont know. jut random lol.

oh and to add to that. all the references to weapons and everything is just metaphors for the emotions that the band has been subjected to lol. i duno. just being different lol.

Gerard Way said on Fuse that this song was for any mother who lost her son to the war (hence the character "Mother War") , but there's probably more meaning to it. THIS SONG FREAKIN' ROCKS! Reminds me of my relationship with my own Mom, except the "son" would be "daughter" for me!

this song has a haunting effect, especially by the ending with the heavy guitar
.
when the background voice says "i should have been a better son" reminds me of monsters inc... the evil, old boss girl with the grey hair thats like "sizlowski, did you hand in your papers?"

num sayin? haha

I love this song so much. Its so eerie, in a totally awesome way. And it's so true as well, especially the verse that goes:
"Mama, we're all full of lies.
Mama, we're meant for the flies.
And right now they're building a coffin your size.
Mama, we're all full of lies."

Such an amazing song, and as for the meaning, it seems to me as if its on the same wavelength as I never told you what I do for a living. He talks of what he's done and how he's ashamed of it and feels guilty a lot. I think the referring to killing people and war is a metaphore for the war he feels like he's having with himself and how he feels he's dying inside himself.

Has anyone seen the film Saving Private Ryan? Apparently this song was based on a bit of that film when one of the soldiers is shot and screaming for his mother before he dies...
That might just be a rumour, but its a great song anyhow - when they play it live, Gerard does the crying bit at the end, which is pretty funny to watch!

i always think about a kid being drafted of to war and talking to his mom. if he was a girl he wouldnt have been drafted. i think... the moms paranoid shes gonna lose him. he thinks hes most likely gonna die and he wishes he were a better son to his mom. then i imagine them in a strip club/bar sorta thing partying before they have to leave.

What the FUCK is up with this song. Were they stoned or something when they wrote this. I bet a 10 year old could re-write this song and do it better. Hell, I bet I could even write a song better than this and my songs seriously suck. This is worse than the black parade song. I know these guys can make good music, just look at some of the songs off bullets. I've lost all my respect for this band, they're nothing like they were before. Maybe if they'd actually taken their time on this album it would've turned out better but I think the whole thing is just a mess.

the patient is delusional and he's imagining that he's lost a leg, and is influenced by what his feelings towards his mother are

or, another person in the hospital ward close by him went to a war, and is recalling what he felt during the time he was in the frontline

I think that this song is a tribute to the beginning of the Queen classic, "bohemian rhapsody". Let's look at the similarities

The first lines of Bohemian Rapsody are:
"Mama, I just killed a man"

Much like the title to the My Chem song.

As shown in Mama, this guy's mother is very angry with him, perhaps because he has just told her that he has killed a man.

Let's assume from the song that she then lectures him that "Murder is a sin, you are going to hell"

The guy then replies "We're ALL going to hell"

thats pretty much all the similarities that i could find, except in the song Bohemian Rhapsody the line "sometimes I wish that I never was born at all" is somewhat similar to in Mama when the guy tells his mother "You should have had a baby girl", meaning that he would not have been born

Well. I'm not sure what It means.
A teacher of mine that listens to My Chemical Romance, said it may have been about a son raping his mother. "You should have raised a baby girl, I should have been a better son." and "She said 'you ain't no son of mine' For what you done they're gonna find. A place for you and just you mind. Your manners when you go."

I don't know.
That's just an idea.
