Lyrics for Mama as interpreted by AbsolutionAgent_gMs

Mama Lyrics
Mama, we all go to hell.
Mama, we all go to hell.
I'm writing this letter and wishing you well.
Mama, we all go to hell.

Oh, well now, Mama, we're all gonna die.
Mama, we're all gonna die.
Stop asking me questions, I hate to see you cry.
Mama, we're all gonna die.

And when we go don't blame us, yeah,
We'll let the fire just bathe us, yeah,
You made us oh so famous
We’ll never let you go.
And when you go don't return to me my love.

Mama, we're all full of lies.
Mama, we're meant for the flies.
And right now they're building a coffin your size.
Mama, we're all full of lies.

Well Mother, what the war did to my legs and to my tongue,
You should have raised a baby girl
I should have been a better son
If you could coddle the infection, they can amputate at once
You should’ve been
I could have been a better son.

And when we go don't blame us, yeah,
We'll let this fire just bathe us, yeah,
You made us oh so famous,
We'll never let you go.

She said "you ain't no son of mine"
For what you done they're gonna find
A place for you and just you mind
Your manners when you go.
And when you go don't return to me my love,
That's right.

Mama, we all go to hell,
Mama, we all go to hell,
It’s really quite pleasant except for the smell,
Mama, we all go to hell.

Mama, Mama, Mama, ohhhh.
Mama, Mama, Mama.

Liza: And if you would call me your sweetheart, I'd maybe then sing you a song.

Gerard: But there's shit that I've done with this fuck of a gun,
You will cry out your eyes all along.

We’re damned after all.
Through fortune and fame we fall.
And if you can stay then I’ll show you the way
To return to the ashes you call.

We all carry on,
When our brothers in arms are gone,
So raise your glass high, for tomorrow we die,
And return from the ashes you call.

I think I know how this song relates to the Patient concept! Just a theory though:
The Patient is supposed to be a vet sent back from war (possibly cause he has been diagnosed with cancer) This is a flashback to a letter he wrote in the thick of battle, perhaps the night before a battle that he and the other troops are dreading (we're all gonna die!)
I think maybe after he was discharged he found out his girl was over him and then had to face his disease while getting over her too. The song Teenagers tends to back the fact that he has had some military indoctrination in his background, and isn't there a military marching band in every Parade?

Well the song is obviously about war and is related with the album story.

But... don't we all know Gerard has a connection with his grandmother? The song Helena is about her, and in this song, he says "You made us oh so famous". Maybe he's talking about the song Helena making them famous.

That's just me though. And I don't know if Gerard used to call her grandmother Mama.

The first time i heard this song i wasn't so much in love with the band as i am now, and i found it a bit funny.. Which i think is very well done by the band because the cd has nothing else funny about it (exept for Blood maybe:D). But now, when i listen to it, i don't find it funny anymore.. It's just an incredible song with a deep meaning...

This is appearantly about the poor patient going to war and then, as somebody has already mentioned, he regrets now. But it is also indirectly about Gerard, i think... Well, a part of it at least. His mom thinks he is such an innocent kid, but he knows more than she is aware of... He has watched tv and grown up in jersey and stuff, so he already believes they're all going to hell.
Don't know if this fits with the whole song, but... Just a thought!

this song has a diversity of aspects to look at it from and i think thats why mcr has such a diverse group of fans... because you can look at alot of their songs from different angles.
one aspect would be the character in this song has gone to war, had some kind of travisty happen to him during the war, and is on the brink of extinction due to said travisty. He's lost a leg and his tongue to infection and perhaps he knwos he wont survive through the rest and is apologizing to his mother and his lover, but not really showing remorse for doing the things hes done. He knows he's going to hell for the unmentionables he's done while serving his country, but he feels everything hes done has been warranted and has no regrets.

I can't believe nobody has commented on how:
"Well mother what the war did to my legs and to my tongue,
You shoulda raised a baby girl
I shoulda been a better son
If you could counter the infection, they can amputate at once
You should’ve been
I could've been a better son."

Sounds almost exactly like "The Trial" by Pink Floyd.

Black Parade was heavily influenced by The Wall. Almost to the point of copying. Fantastic album none the less though.

Mother is a pretty deep song, with a deep meaning. When I bought the CD and I heard it I thought: "seems like based on W W II" because of the beggining with bomb sounds and all that. Now I guess the song is a message to the world to stop the fuck war, 'cause it doesn't take us anywhere, and Liza Minelli's participation is excellent.

The whole album is about the Patient, whether or not it sounds like it. The album is about death. When you die, supposedly your life flashes before your eyes. This is what is happening. Some of the songs on TBP are memories or events that happened during the Patient's life

I'm thinking this is a flashback. Possibly from World War One. The song is about a letter written from a soldier to his mom, I believe the night before the battle of the 'Somme' where thousands of Allied soldiers tried to break through German lines. The allied soldiers knew that when they crossed 'no mans land', they were going to get slaughtered. "Well now mama, we're all gonna die!" Think about it. The mortars falling in the beginning of the song. The Allies shelled the crap out of the Germans the night before they rushed the lines in Somme.

"We let the fire just bathe us, yeah" This isn't actual FIRE, its machine gun fire. The battle started and they are getting smoked like expected.

"You made us oh so famous" Back then it was an honor to fight for your country so the people back home really supported the troops, making them famous.

Okay... I'm seriously too lazy to analyze the rest of the song. So,... That is just my general idea. To me, the most chilling part of the song is the crying at the end. Like it's the mother crying when she gets his letter.

This song hits me hard having spent two tours in Iraq; at shooting cars that run our checkpoints with the .50 cal, rolling over an IED and losing hearing in my left ear. War is hell, I can't even begin to imagine the shit that those boys went through over in the trenches during WWI.

Also, it sounds like this song was inspired by the poem "Dulce Et Decorum Est". Look it up and read it, you'll see what I mean.

I'm pretty sure this album whole album tells a story, this is just another chapter. If you listen to the entire album (i have several times) you might notice its about a guy who died or is dieing of cancer. This is what I beleive to be the last thing he said or what he wished he could've said to his own mother. Obviously either he didnt like his mom or she didnt like him, either way it was a sour relationship. Possible reasons? Abandonment works both ways. She either abandoned him or she was mas at him for abandoning her when he went to war. Just a thought.

"And when we go don't blame us"

Also maybe she was against war and he was supporting it, hence the anger at eachother and this particular line:

"She said you ain't no son of mine for what you've done there"

I agree with the people saying this is about the whole war thing.
But I think Gerard is making the war an analogy.
All the men that were in the war were all feeling different feelings of guilt and regret and sorrow.
I think this song could really relate to any one that has done bad things in there life and regret them.
It's an anology for certain feelings.
But appearantly his 'Mama' doesn't forgive him in the song.
Which makes the men feel even worse.
So this song also is kind of an analogy for forgiveness.
Like maybe in some cases forgiveness is good but in other ways some people don't deserve to be forgiven.
Sooo all in all I think Gerard is saying that every one makes mistakes in life. Not every one is forgiven. But through it all every one has felt guilty and regretful and scared of the consiquences so maybe...try and take it easy on the people that feel like that cause at some point in life you're gonna feel like that too.
That's my analogy.

this song is about a soldier. isn't it obvious?
a. verses one and two suggest that he's away with a group, all of which he believes are going to die.
b. "well what the war did to my legs and to my tongue"
c. by saying that his mother should have raised a baby girl, he means if she had a baby girl she would most likely not be at war.
there are lots of clues but i think this song is about his guilt for killing so many in war, and he knows that he won't go back home.

all that eastern european in the 1940's is so dark. I 've always felt they had that kinda vibe. You can feel it in jetset. " we'll let the fire just bathe us" is creepy. There's this little breakdown right before Liza sings and the guitars sound like pencey prep. I bet it was Frankie's idea :).

Well I just bought the CD yesterday and some of these lyrics are wrong. Here are the ones on the back of the CD cover :

Mama we all go to hell
Mama we all go to hell
I'm writing this letter and wishing you well
Mama we all go to hell

Oh well now
Mama we're all gonna die
Mama we're all gonna die
Stop asking me questions

We let the fire just bathe us , yeah
You made us oh so famous

And when you go don't return to me my love

Mama we're all full of lies
Mama we're meant for the flies
And right now they're building a coffin your size
Mama we're all full of lies

Well Mother, what the war did to my legs and to my tongue
You should have raised a baby girl
I should have been a better son
If you could coddle the infection
They can amputate at once
You should have been
I could have been a better son.

And when we go don't blame us, yeah
We'll let the fire just bathe us , yeah
You made us oh so famous
We'll never let you go.
She said "You ain't no son of mine"
For what you done they're gonna find
A place for you and just you mind
Your manners when you go
And when you go don't return to me my love

Mama
We all go to hell
Mama we all go to hell
It's really quite pleasant
Except for the smell
Mama we all go to hell

2-3-4
Mama!
Mama!
Mama!

Mother War : And if you would call me your sweetheart, i'd maybe then sing you a song.

The Patient : But there's shit that I've done with this fuck of a gun
You would cry out your eyes all along

We’re damned after all

This song reminds of the time I was in iraq and my mother was writing me letters seeing if I was ok and asking me tons of questions when all I wanted to do was to get through the whole thing alive.

My mother is very religious and keeps saying she prays for me especially now since I am about to go back there again. I on the other hand am atheist and I know there is a good chance I may die there this time around however I know I am going to die eventually and if I do my wife and child will be taken care of financially but inevitably we all die every one of us.

The whole we all go to hell I cannot relate with but after thinking about it for a while I guess it would be better if everyone who believed in an afterlife thought they were destines for hell no matter what so they could enjoy the life they have now instead of waiting for some ridiculous happy ending and justification of their lives. Because if that were the case I wouldn't be going to Iraq in the first place.
