Famous Last Words Lyrics
Now I know
That I can't make you stay
But where's your heart?
But where's your heart?
But where's your...

And I know
There's nothing I could say
To change that part
To change that part
To change...

So many
Bright lights, they cast a shadow
But can I speak?
Well is it hard understanding
I'm incomplete
A life that's so demanding
I get so weak
A love that's so demanding
I can't speak

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

Can you see
My eyes are shining bright
Cause I'm out here
On the other side
Of a jet black hotel mirror
And I'm so weak
Is it hard understanding
I'm incomplete
A love that's so demanding
I get weak

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

These bright lights have always blinded me
These bright lights have always blinded me
I say

I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead

(How can I see, I see you lying) 'Cause I see you lying next to me
(How can I see, I see you lying) With words I thought I'd never speak
(How can I see, I see you lying) Awake and unafraid
(How can I see, I see you lying) Asleep or dead

'Cause I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead

'Cause I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(Or dead)
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
(Or dead)
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(Or dead)
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
(Or dead)
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(Or dead)
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

'so many bright lights that cast a shadow'
there are so many good things that they create darker things ie. jealousy, hate...

IMO :)

In my opinion the song starts off with him being unsure if someone close to him will stay by him in his time of need.. they have a strained relationship. He wants this person to know it's not his fault, and that alot of aspects in his life are what brought him into this slump.. and he feels misunderstood and guilty that this person may hold contempt. 'bright lights' being like warning signals, or opportunities to fix things with this person. In the end, When he made amends with this person, they stayed by him. And the person will stay by him til the end.

Oh, and I doubt that the meaning of the song is particularly religious, even despite all the christian google ads on the page. lol

this song is about the patient being left alone, having nothing left to live for, but learns that life is the most fragile thing that the world has to offer and just because he is dead he can look at the positives and look at himself positively but although he has lost a lot, he has still has much to gain.

This is about the cancer patient's last words to his love as he passes on. Nice finale to the album and nice addition to Guitar Hero 2 (I 5-starred it on Expert :D)

Contrary to popular belief, this song is not about famous last words.. it is in fact, about famous first words!

I agree whole heartedly with Yumi but in my opinion I think that the song revolves around an argument between the patient and his lover who shows up more than once to see him. This is mostly evident in the fact that he says "There's nothing I can say to change that part." Then later says, “nothing you can say can stop me…” Thus I think the verses are his pleadings for her to stay and the chorus and bridge are her trying to leave. I really disagree with the idea that his seeing lights are is his epiphany. "These bright lights have always blinded me” and “Bright lights they cast a shadow” seem more like nihilistic views of the world which is what one might feel when knowing there approaching demise.

Throughout the album the patient seems to gain a negative outlook on life that has made him cold and bitter and she can no longer stand to be around someone who is pulling her down, hence the lines: “I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this world alone“. I really don’t understand the idea of a patient on his deathbed talking about walking in the world and living by himself if he’s going to die.

Furthermore I think that the bridge is his lover because she would be wondering if he’s awake, asleep or dead. Gerard repeats the line “or dead” several times until the end to let us know that he has passed away. Which in my opinion makes sense because now that he’s lost his lover what else is there that he’s living for.

weird.i mean the band is great but i cant seem to find the meaning of the lyrics...its wuold be strange the subject being the lover...the album is about the pacient.anyway there cant be 2 entirely different ppl being the subject, that doesnt exist.the speaker is only one.i think that this is more a conversation with Death or God or with the pacient himself where he on one side wants to live but on the other would be happy and reliefed to die.

K this is a huge stretch and I know it's not what the song is really about but hear me out...

This song makes me think of the Twilight series, the books. If you've read them you might get this. It reminds me of Edward and Bella.

(The lyrics don't match exactly to my thoughts but remember its just a thought of mine, I know its not really what the song is about lol.)

Now I know
That I can't make you stay
But where's your heart?
But where's your heart?
But where's your...

And I know
There's nothing I could say
To change that part
To change that part
To change...
-------

At the end of the first book, Bella makes Edward promise to stay with her always, and into the second, you can see hes staying for a bit when he seems not to want too. So she says, I know I can make you stay, but wheres your heart? (why dont you want to) then shes/hes saying, theres nothing I can say to change that part (that hes a vampire) even thought they might want to.

So many
Bright lights, they cast a shadow
But can I speak?
Well is it hard understanding
I'm incomplete
A life that's so demanding
I get so weak
A love that's so demanding
I can't speak
------

Bright lights casting shadows might be the secrets, things seem normal but there dark shadows are the truth, then it says "can I speak, shes not aloud to tell about the Cullens. The vampire family is a little hard to understand, shes incomplete without them though. A life so demanding, she feels weak around them, they have power and strength, she has to be so careful near them. A love thats so demanding, she cant speak. She loves him so much she cant tell anyone hes a vampire.

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
----------

She says shes not afraid to live forever with him, she wants to be a vampire, he says no and hes not afraid to walk the world alone forever like before. She begs him to stay (I cant get the forgive part in my theory lol) he says that nothing she can say can stop him from going home, he wants to leave to keep her safe.

Can you see
My eyes are shining bright
Cause I'm out here
On the other side
Of a jet black hotel mirror
And I'm so weak
Is it hard understanding
I'm incomplete
A love that's so demanding
I get weak
---------

This is more of Edward talking. His eyes are bright, the black of a hungry vampire, hes on the other side, hes different then any human, jet black mirror, maybe he feels hes so different he cant even see himself as being human. He cant understand the way he feels, he feels incomplete without bella, the love is so demanding, he needs to be so careful around her and he breaks his own rules of avoiding her and keeping her safe cause he loves her so much, he feels weak inside for ignoring what is right, for being with who he loves.

Chorus x2

These bright lights have always blinded me
These bright lights have always blinded me
I say

I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead
---------

The bright lights might mean they were kinda dazed all the time, not seeing the world clearly till they found one another. Edward used to watch her sleep, eventually he would cuddle in bed with her and watch her sleep. Bella would whispered she loved him in her sleep. She was awake and never afraid of him, asleep she felt dead, bad dreams, she missed him, she never wanted to sleep.

chorus repeats.....

The End.

Hope you enjoyed, if you have read the books you might get it more, but ya. Hope it makes a little sense and maybe someone agrees lol.

One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

"I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead"

To me this means that he can foresee himself lying in bed next to his lover for the rest of his life, whether she is awake, asleep, or dead. Knowing this removes his fear of death, and makes him want to continue living.

I just finished reading the book "Looking for Alaska", by John Green. And wow, this song sounds exactly like it was based off of the book.

The title alone "Famous Last Words", the main character's hobby is memorizing famous last words.

And in short, the book is about a boy, who meets this girl, who is fun and crazy at times, but is also really depressed. She also already has a boyfriend. She really hates herself. But he is in love with her. Always imagining them being together, but he can't save her when she decides to go for a drive when she's drunk.

Throughout most of the story, he, as I said, is in love with her, and always thinks she loves him back, and hopes she'll leave her boyfriend for him, and a scene where he kisses her, he think she really loves hum, even though his friend says she kisses a lot of people. "Where's your heart?"

ugh, there's so much I wanna say, but I don't wanna spoil the book. Go read it. If you like the song, or even if you don't, you'll love the book.

Like tokyo lover this verse is always the one I think of when I think of this song. "i see you lying next to me
with words i thought i'd never speak
awake and unafraid
asleep or dead" I really get the a feel for Twilight when I hear this song, but it can't bring myself to relate the song and books. I just sorta get a feel for the books when I hear it.

This song is so inspirational.
I don't really know what this song means, but... everytime I'm feeling down, I listen to this song and... I have the courage to keep on living... ... ... CORNY!But yeah. Awesome song.
Gerard sounds very passionate when he sings, "OR DEAAAAAAAAAAAADD." Maybe that's because he's screaming. I dunno.

im only going to explain what i think the chorus means. it's the only part that gets me alot.

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

in my opinion that has a really strong meaning, maybe just for me.
but it's like,
"im not afraid to live my life alone. and that nothing anyone can say can stop me from being who i am."

Ha ha. My friend and I love this song so much that we tried playing it on guitar. Guess what? We failed. Ha ha. WE just gave up - the opposite of what Gerard's singing. Ha ha. Oh well.
