Lyrics for Famous Last Words as interpreted by shealerevenge

Famous Last Words Lyrics
Now I know
That I can't make you stay
But where's your heart?
But where's your heart?
But where's your...

And I know
There's nothing I could say
To change that part
To change that part
To change...

So many
Bright lights, they cast a shadow
But can I speak?
Well is it hard understanding
I'm incomplete
A life that's so demanding
I get so weak
A love that's so demanding
I can't speak

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

Can you see
My eyes are shining bright
Cause I'm out here
On the other side
Of a jet black hotel mirror
And I'm so weak
Is it hard understanding
I'm incomplete
A love that's so demanding
I get weak

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

These bright lights have always blinded me
These bright lights have always blinded me
I say

I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead

(How can I see, I see you lying) 'Cause I see you lying next to me
(How can I see, I see you lying) With words I thought I'd never speak
(How can I see, I see you lying) Awake and unafraid
(How can I see, I see you lying) Asleep or dead

'Cause I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead

'Cause I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(Or dead)
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
(Or dead)
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(Or dead)
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
(Or dead)
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(Or dead)
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

You know what? If people say that they hate how MCR is emo now....WHY THE BLOODY HELL ARE YOU LOOKING UP THE LYRICS!!!!!
I think you just want to be ass's and critizize some thing you don't understand.
And MCR has always been a little emo......they just show it more in this album.
Damn idiots!
I love this song though!!!!!

Will everyone stop trying to label absolutely EVERY band! I mean honestly, what does it matter if they're emo or not??? It doesn't make any difference, it's still an awesome song, and if you don't like it, I don't know what you're doing on this board.

And anyway, My Chemical Romance have said in like a zillion interviews that they are not emo and they hate the emo scene.

I believe what he is trying to say that he's incomplete and it's hard to do anything in life. but he's gonna keep going on even if his girlfirend dumps him. but she doesn't dump him and he didn't think he was going to be able to tell her thank you and he's sorry for everything. it's a powerful song if you really listen to it and analyze it.

gerard wrote this song when mikey was depressed and considering suicide, and everyone was staying in a haunted mansion. gerard had made it through his alcoholism and depression and it seems like he wanted mikey to make it too.

i really like the video to this song.. its a nice straight performance!! not one of the songs i would have picked to be released as a single, but it seems much loved!
my personal favourite from the black parade is either Mama, or disenchanted.. or i dont love you (which is supposedly the next single)
but they are all good in their own ways.. thats the good thing about MCR, all their songs are very different and brilliant in their own ways

yuck. welcome was such a huge growth for them musically. and while this song follows the same pattern of straightforward rock (not emo) the lyrics have regressed and leave waaaayyyy too much to be desired. it's like a 16 year old having his g/f leave him again. yeah, i know that's not what the song's about. nevertheless, that's how distictly uninspired the writing on this song is. yep, now i remember why i hate emo. haha i win.

IN the rest of the album we see the Patient looking back on his life, starting with being afraid and angry, but slowly coming to terms with his imminent death, including severing ties with his loved one. IN "Famous Last Words", he is ready to die, but seeing his girlfriend sleeping next to him wakes something up inside of him and wants to live. He asks her to take him back and to forgive him and to help him fight the cancer. The end is left hanging, but I feel pretty certain that the Patient survives . . . .

w0w! i started to LOVE this song just about a week before it came out on the radio and the first time i heard it on the radio i got kinda mad because they always, always ruin songs by overplaying them. so i have come to the conclusion that i wont listen to the radio for a while :P

The bridge after the solo leading into those soaring high notes over the repeated chorus acting as a backdrop? Absolute brilliance, I always said that this band knew how to write edgy songs with incredible hooks and I agree with anyone who's said that this song (and album) feels like a very natural progression.

just thought id throw my 2 cents in... why fear death... i mean sure you wont have anything, but what is there to fear after death, your dead its not like you can die again... or maybe you can but then that would make you reborn... so either way it will be all fine, sure you might not have the friends you have now but im sure by the time it comes, you will have accepted the fact that its your time and its gotta happen... (when you find out the meaning of life you pass)

I'm not going to completely analyse the whole song but basically, I've always thought that he'd woken up, seen a certain female lying next to him, and he's no longer nervous around her, hence where "Awake and unafraid" comes from, however I've also always thought that the line, "Asleep or Dead?" meant that he wasn't sure if she was asleep or dead.
However after reading what other people have said about this part of the song, I must say theirs makes much more sense to me.

Just thought I'd share another theory with you all.

Also ** Doubtfull's comment made me think.
Maybe the patient is alive.
"Asleep or Dead?".
He could have just dreamed the whole ordeal.
Especially seeing as it's the last song.

well for those of you that are in dispute about whether this song is about the patient or mikey. I mean if mikey was depressed, he's almost like a patient instead of physically sick, mentally sick. and maybe this whole cd is about mentall illness or physical illnesses. After all, some people say that even diseases could be solved through the mind. And Gerard said this cd was about fighting demons. I'm not saying the whole cd is about mikey. but this one in particular was said in a magazine to be like that and it would be fitting if the whole cd was about that.

I interpret this song to fit my own situation. It's about wanting to ask someone you love not to leave because it will destroy your world but you can't find the right words. But you know you have to keep living, you have to keep fighting.
