Lyrics for Famous Last Words as interpreted by shealerevenge

Famous Last Words Lyrics
Now I know
That I can't make you stay
But where's your heart?
But where's your heart?
But where's your...

And I know
There's nothing I could say
To change that part
To change that part
To change...

So many
Bright lights, they cast a shadow
But can I speak?
Well is it hard understanding
I'm incomplete
A life that's so demanding
I get so weak
A love that's so demanding
I can't speak

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

Can you see
My eyes are shining bright
Cause I'm out here
On the other side
Of a jet black hotel mirror
And I'm so weak
Is it hard understanding
I'm incomplete
A love that's so demanding
I get weak

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

These bright lights have always blinded me
These bright lights have always blinded me
I say

I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead

(How can I see, I see you lying) 'Cause I see you lying next to me
(How can I see, I see you lying) With words I thought I'd never speak
(How can I see, I see you lying) Awake and unafraid
(How can I see, I see you lying) Asleep or dead

'Cause I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead

'Cause I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I'd never speak
Awake and unafraid
Asleep or dead

I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(Or dead)
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
(Or dead)
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(Or dead)
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home
(Or dead)
I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone
(Or dead)
Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiven
Nothing you can say can stop me going home

"The Patient is ready to go to Heaven, and as 'the lights are blinding' him, he appears there, however, when he opens his eyes, he sees him self laying next to his lover. He speaks the words that he never though he would, "I love you/I'm sorry" but he does not know if he is dead or is alive. He then realises that there is nothing to fear in life, only times that he should grieve and that he is "Not afraid to keep on living" and regardless of what could happen, he is "Not afraid to walk this World alone", he will keep going in life no matter what, because he now sees the beauty of it. The two final lyrics are very debatable. There are two ways that this could be taken, that the Patient was allowed to say a final goodbye to his lover and then pass on to the afterlife, whether it is in Hell or Heaven (Now that he is forgiven), or whether he is allowed a 'second chance' for lack of a better phrase. Following the second chance, it seems that the Patient's lover does not yet realise he is going to stay and live, so she says that she will be forgiving of what he has done if he stays, the Patient then replies, maybe even in a jokey sort of way, that there is nothing you can do to stop him living anymore, he is back and is staying. If you follow the fact that these are his 'Famous Last Words' and that he is now going to the afterlife, then his lover would be replying to him saying that she does not want him to go and she will forgive him if he stays, but the Patient has to go, and seals his death by saying that nothing she is able to say will be able to bring him back to life, or as the song says, 'home'. Please note that there are many ways that the song can be interpreted and that this is also open to interpretation, as is any other song and the ending is a very crucial point in the songs meaning, but unless a member speaks out truthfully about what the song means in detail, we will never fully know the Patient's destiny."

Oh no no, dont thank me, thank WIKIPEDIA!! hes THE man in this story!

"On the other side
Of the jet black
BROKEN mirror" is what it says.

It should say "HOTEL mirror."
But otherwise VERY good.
My favorite song.

This song seems to me like the message of a "suicide" methality guy, because the sond says : "Nothing you can say can stop me going home", like his home is the other side.
Although it may be too just about a man who just leaves his girlfriend

My Favorite part of the song is

I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I’d never speak
Awake and unfraid
Asleep or dead

because of what it means. This guy, who is mostly young, is finally able to her that he loves her. It isn't simply "telling" her. It is that he finally gets it. He realizes that he loves her. His life is about to end but for the briefest of moments all the turmoil and struggle that life brings is washed away by love. All the pain and doubt of his existance doesn't matter because of her.

I also like it because it is a lie I would like to believe in.

This song is so touching.

Either the person has died and gone to heaven, meeting his lover from the first two CDs.
Or someone else on his/her deathbed talking to a completely different person.

Oh, and the video sucks. Especially when compared to Welcome to the Black Parade.

The first time I listened to this song I was stunned. It was so intense!! well, u know, to me. And i put it on repeat and listened to it over and over and over...again. The best part was the "I see you lying next to me, with words I thought I'd never speak," It was really...good, for lack of a better word...

Right my interpretation of this is...different. I think it's the patient on his deathbed, speaking to the woman he is leaving behind. "I am not afraid to keep on living/I am not afraid to walk this world alone" is the girl, who is basically saying after you die, I'm going to carry on. "Honey if you stay I'll be forgiving/Nothing you can say can stop me going home" is the patient, who is saying, if you carry on I'll forgive you.

The verses. The parts that talk about the bright lights casting shadows and blinding him i think is him thinking about his life, and how all the good things never come without any bad ones. Then he says "My eyes are shining bright/Cause I'm out here on the other side/Of a jet-black hotel mirror/And I'm so weak" - I think this is a metaphor. It means that he feels so separated from the woman he loves by this "jet-black hotel mirror" which means death, and he can't see past it.

And finally: "I see you lying next to me/With words I thought I'd never speak/Awake and unafraid/Asleep or dead". This is from the point of view of the girl. The patient is telling her he loves her and goodbye. They sit there, she is awake and unafraid of what will happen to her next. The patient is falling "asleep or dead?".

OK, I may have over-analysed that a little! I

ok, first of all, they are saying more than just his relationship. They are talking about any realtionship. and by saying " i am not afraid to keep on living......walk world alone" they are telling the world that you should never give up....you should always hold your head high, and just keep moving. I like this song, cause it is getting me through a tough time right now.

I think the "burning souls" might be the other members of the Black Parade....not sure, but it does say all -their- souls are burning, and the patient is the one that has to save them....any thoughts?

Now,
I have never been a huge My Chemical Romance fan. I mean, I listened to their stuff every now and then, but I was not really all that into them.
But this song, I am proud to say, is absolutly amazing.
Gerard has really stepped into a new light, and suprised me. This song is just brilliant. The lyrics, the guitars, the vocals, the video.
It is absolutly fantastic.

For the first time in my life, I applaud you, Gerard Way.

Apparently this song is about the patient finally dying. But the band left it open to decide whether it was the patient that died or the patients lover. You can tell that by the part...
"I see you lying next to me
With words I thought I’d never speak
Awake and unfraid
Asleep or dead"

"Honey if you stay, You'll be forgiven'"

"Honey if you stay, I'll be forgiving"

No, he definately says I'll be forgiving. Watch the studio version on AOL music. Dang, I knew this had to be their next single. I'm havign a debate with a friend; the next single should be what do you think: Dead or Disenchanted?
