No one makes it out alive, but I know where the killer hides tonight
No one makes it out alive, but I know where the killer hides

I saw this night and the next, erupt in flames but years ago
Women and children scurry like roaches stomped out by fire
I warned these insects not to move but no one ever listens…

”Don't believe this girl, she preaches mayhem!”
“She's the devils bitch and a liar!”
“I want to see the look in her eyes,
when body parts ways with life!”

No one listens to the damned

No one listens to the damned
At six miles up it will explode, I can see it all
No one listens to the damned
At sea level you will be drowned, I have seen it all
No one listens to the damned
Beneath the surface the monster will have you
No one listens to the damned
But god damned no one will believe me

No one listens to the damned
No one listens to the damned
No one listens to the damned
No one listens to the damned…

Interestingly Enough, the title of the song is the give away to the meaning.

It's a bit of an abstract run down on the greek story of Cassandra, who was given the gift of prophecy by apollo (because of her great beauty) but was then cursed to never be believed when she refused to return his affections.

modernly, it's nicknamed the 'cassandra syndrome'

Yeah, I just wanted to say that tkilljoy is dead on with the meaning of this song. Using the mythological figure Cassandra, they were able to build a song that shows her predicting the future, but being hated for it, having no one believe her. Coincidentally, the song could be taken in modern times with destruction and all that, but in Ancient Greek times, the same shit existed. Really, you can place the "destruction, ignorance, and hatred" themes at any time in history, and they would easily fit in. We may just look at it as a modern equivalent since we, you know, live now...and not back then.

Well I did not know that it would be that hard for you guys to figure out this song.

This song is about the cassandra in greek mytholoygy.

Here is the info about her: In Greek mythology, Cassandra (Greek: Κασσάνδρα "she who entangles men") (also known as Alexandra) was a daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy whose beauty caused Apollo to grant her the gift of prophecy. However, when she did not return his love, Apollo placed a curse on her so that no one would ever believe her predictions.

Is this title a reference to the Doctor Who episode "The End of The World"?

    i think

this girls being executed for being thought to be a heretic or like a witch

like in the 1800's they would kill al those who they thought were associated with the devil.

they are like shes a witch

and nobody listens to what she says about them murdering people she is saying by doing this youll all go to hell

and they wont listen to her because they have condemned her to death

"no one listens to the damned." and such

    my opinion

Witch trials in the 1800's? It was the 1690's tool.

I think in addition with the story of Cassandra, it's about man ignoring the dangers of what they're doing.

People die from smoking...but mankind still smokes. America learned about the dangers of building an entire state below sea-level, a hurricane came and demolished it, and they want to rebuild it. The body count of anything is proof that something is wrong and needs to be fixed but "no one listens to the..."

You're absolutely right about the Trojan prophetess, Cassandra. This song parallels her prediction of the fall of Troy. She warned the Trojans not to keep the wooden horse given as a gift from the "retreating" Achaeans. However, being cursed, she was called mad and ignored.

The Achaean army faked a retreat, climbed on board their boats, and sailed out to hide past the horizon and behind rocks, where they would not be spotted by the Trojans. Meanwhile, they built a large wooden horse (the Trojan horse) and sent it to Troy as a gift, where it was accepted. The horse, however, was hollow and contained many Achaean soldiers, including Odysseus himself. Celebrating the end of the ten year war, the Trojans partied in the streets and passed out drunk.

The citizens of Troy were massacred when the Achaeans snuck out of the Trojan horse and opened Troy's gates to the hiding Achaean army. The massacre and the prophecies of Cassandra are what this song is about.

"No one makes it out alive": the citizens of Troy were slaughtered.

"I know where the killer hides": the killer was the Achaean soldiers, who hid in the Trojan horse.

She predicted that accepting the horse would be the decline of Troy, that it would "erupt in flames" and "women and children" would "scurry like roaches."

She "warned [the Trojans] not to move," or, not to accept the horse, but no one listened to her.

"Don't believe this girl... parts ways with life" is a section of insults and vilifications from the citizens of Troy that Cassandra had received when she made predictions.

"No one listens to the damned" Cassandra.

I really wish they hadn't changed this song so much. It's so much different from the demo and the demo was amazing. But I do love this song, nonetheless...

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
