My interpretation is how the guy only wants to make the girl smile and feel good, but she doesn't give the slightest care to him. I like this song, not because of the innuendo about sexual regret, but how the girl ignores or is completely oblivious to the guy. I've been like this for the 15 years I've been living....rejected or ignored, by every girl I ever liked.... I hope it doesn't stay like this >.<

The person they are dealing with is very insecure. It reminds me of a relationship I was in where we would hook up, but never really acknowledge each other in public. You know you hook up, and they sleep over, but they feel so distant.

You kind of resent them because they are distant and you know they are bad for you. When you sleep together, you feel very alone. It's about knowing you could do something for that person but its hard to get through to them.
It seems like she's saying, "This is tempting and I shouldn't do this because you'll make me lonely. But I probably will do it anyway because I feel like I can help you"
When I hear it I feel like it's about a couple who had broken up and both want eachother back.

I think that means that they're in love and that they want each other but they cant have any more than what they already do have and that its caused them so much pain already but they cant/dont want to not be together but understand that everything is getting in the way of what they could have and if he could only make her smile it would make everything better but she doesnt see it that way at all.

I take it this is the hardest aprt for them that he wants to still be friends with her but she cant take it and turns away from him. He wants to reminise (cant sell) but she doesnt want it because its to painful and it hurts to go back even though he's still so much in her head she knwos it better to ddo this than to hurt forever.
I first heard thissong when this guy I was sort of seeing coudlt deal what what was goin on in his head and he cont. thought that if we had fun and didnt worrya bout anything that we would work it out we had a lot of people in both our ears which amde the decision difficult. we loved eacher other differently but in the end wI had to end it so that he could potentially be happier (which i dont think he is but thats totally upto him and im miserable as well) and thats why I love this song. Its pretty much the story of my life when we see each other its awkward and he tries to be there for me and wwants to talk to him but i unintentionally ignore him and it makes him think that I hate him, but its my way to deal which I think is portrayed in the song.

its the catch 22 of a situation/break up when you despertatly still want to be with that person and want to make them happy but you know its not going to work.

The chorus is basically saying that they both still care about each other and they don't have any hard feelings. They both miss each other and what they had, but they're too scared to say anything.
