Lyrics for For Reasons Unknown as interpreted by georgie

For Reasons Unknown Lyrics
I pack my case
I check my face
I look a little bit older
I look a little bit colder

With one deep breath
And one big step
I move a little bit closer
I move a little bit closer

For reasons unknown

I caught my stride
I flew and flied
I know if destiny's kind,
I've got the rest on my mind

But my heart, it don't beat,
It don't beat the way it used to
And my eyes, they don't see you no more
And my lips, they don't kiss,
They don't kiss the way they used to
And my eyes don't recognize you no more

For reasons unknown, for reasons unknown

There was an open chair
We sat down in the open chair
I said if destiny's kind,
I've got the rest on my mind

But my heart, it don't beat,
It don't beat the way it used to
And my eyes, they don't see you no more
And my lips, they don't kiss,
They don't kiss the way they used to
And my eyes don't recognize you at all

For reasons unknown, for reasons unknown

I said my heart, it don't beat,
It don't beat the way it used to
And my eyes don't recognize you no more
And my lips, they don't kiss,
They don't kiss the way they used to
And my eyes don't recognize you no more

For reasons unknown, for reasons unknown,
For reasons unknown, for reasons unknown

these are correct.

I pack my case. I check my face. I look a little bit older. I look a little bit colder. With one deep breath, and one big step, I move a little bit closer. I move a little bit closer. For reasons unknown.

I caught my stride. I flew and flied. I know if destiny’s kind, I’ve got the rest on my mind. But my heart, it don’t beat, it don’t beat the way it used to. And my eyes, they don’t see you no more. And my lips, they don’t kiss, they don’t kiss the way they used to, and my eyes don’t recognize you no more.

For reasons unknown; for reasons unknown.

There was an open chair. We sat down in the open chair. I said if destiny’s kind, I’ve got the rest on my mind. But my heart, it don’t beat, it don’t beat the way it used to. And my eyes, they don’t see you no more. And my lips, they don’t kiss, they don’t kiss the way they used to, and my eyes don’t recognize you at all.

For reasons unknown; for reasons unknown.

I said my heart, it don’t beat, it don’t beat the way it used to and my eyes don’t recognize you no more. And my lips, they don’t kiss, they don’t kiss the way they used to, and my eyes don’t recognize you no more.

For reasons unknown; for reasons unknown; for reasons unknown; for reasons unknown.

This is my favorite track on the album after my first listen though. I love the pre-chorus part with the "and my heart, it don't beat..." bit. I love the vocals on it and the instrumentals. I could go emo about why I think the lyrics touch me or whatever, but I really think it's the music style that makes the Killers great and their lyrics having a certain impact. The Killers are one of those great and talented bands that I think are aimed to the twenty something crowd, but for some reason are loved by the teenie boppers. A bit like Duran Duran in that respect.

This seems like a breakup song, but more intelligent.

This is why I love the Killers...they make music enlightening, smart, and beautiful.

Spectacular song!!! the lyrics are great, the music is AMAZING! To me this song isn't really about a break up so much as simply falling out of love with someone. You wake up one day and realize that, somehow, things just aren't the same between you and another person and you can never go back.

amazing song. my favorite on the album. i agree with sally bowles, the lyrics point to falling out of love with somone rather then a breakup.

I really like this song. Sounds a lot like Morrisey along with a couple of other songs on the album.

I think the 'for reasons unknown' part means he doens't know why it happened.

I think this song is a loss of innocence/loss of love type of thing. He feels old and tired and he's lost his passion. Being with his significant other doesn't excite him anymore. The 'pack my case' might mean that he's leaving (going to work, on tour).

Its about someone he used to love, but now he doesn't and he doesn't know why it happened.

I agree with the falling out of love theory. This song made me cried when i actually sat down and listened to the lyrics (for reasons unknown) ha. But this is my favorite song on the whole album, especially the chorus, it's so Killers-esque.

the best song on the album in my mind.
it's like meeting up with an old lover
but you've changed to much to remember why you loved them

Another masterpiece alongside the rest of The Killers' music. Most of the lyrics are right out there, and the I'm pretty sure the line:

I know if destiny's kind, I've got the rest of my mind

refers to the neural pathways that are not used anymore when you break up in a relationship, and he's hoping he won't break down after the relationship and continue to use the rest of his mind.

I love this song. It's like magical. Anyway is it just me or at the start does he say "clolder"?

Just as everyone else has said it's about falling out of love, but in this case it seems as if the song is about the happiness about being free. The song isn't sad in the least.

hmm...
i think it means
the guy doesnt know what he feels for his gf anymore

he inspects himself, and the relationship

[I pack my case. I check my face. I look a little bit older. I look a little bit colder. With one deep breath, and one big step, I move a little bit closer. I move a little bit closer.]

he's confused and doesnt know what he feels for her
so as he "inspects" everything,
he notices lots of things have changed since the beginning

[But my heart, it don’t beat, it don’t beat the way it used to. And my eyes, they don’t see you no more. And my lips, they don’t kiss, they don’t kiss the way they used to, and my eyes don’t recognize you no more. ]

so in the end
he's confused and gives up inspecting
[for reasons unknown]

=DDD

You wake up one morning, and all of a sudden you realise you don't love her anymore.
He doesn't recognise the one he fell in love with anymore. he's been falling out of love with her since day 1, and only now has this fatal fact suddenly dawned upon him.

when I think of a situation, I think...

he could be on a flight home, back to meet his loving fiance, only to realise upon this harrowing fact

I love this song.
But for me, it sounds like he is apologizing and he's making excuses because he is sorry things have changed for reasons he doesn't know (or remember, it seems like he got old and hasn't been clued in on all that has changed).
The beat would suggest he is torn up about it and the only way to express is through explaining why he's acting like an ass, or that things aren't 'as they used to' and that is why life isn't up to par, or at least where they once were.
He sounds tired, like he woke up, and realized he used to be different and more energized. I don't think he wants to break up or anything, rather he's apologizing for not being what he used to be.

"But my heart it don't beat....etc" is the best bit, it's amazing. it really sounds like he means what he's singing. As if he's trying to force the words out through the pain. This song, it just speaks volumes to me.

Before I get to what kind of relationship is ending, its doesn't have to be a he or a she. Just cause Flowers is a man and hes singing the song, doesn't mean its his story. Now, that we have that out of the way. I think this was more than just a boyfriend and girlfriend thing. I think older literally means age. This person is married and is leaving without telling their partner... usually called running away. Its not his heart thats not beating its the marriage. Of course, the heart not beating can just be the person stopped having feelings for their partner, but the way Flowers breaks out into this chorus makes it seem like a whole bunch of things.

I'm not commenting about meaning, just an opinion. I've had a video in my head for this since day one.
The beginning, where he says I check my face, etc, is him checking himself in the mirror, in a rush to leave.
They leave, on "for reasons unknown."
The "I caught my stride...." is him driving, and "I flew and flied" is a horrific accident with him and his significant other (obviously changed, as it can't be toooo horrific)
The rest is the medics. "My heart don't beat like it used to." They're checking for a heart beat.
My eyes they don't see you no more, they're checking pupils.
And my lips they don't kiss, they don't kiss the way they used to, mouth to mouth.
And my eyes don't recognize you no more is checking agin, perhaps getting him back.
I think this would look amazing if he was unconscience, but was still singing while they did all this.

The rest of the video should be him getting ready to check out of the hospital, and they're following up on him. Him and his girlfriend for the video sit down in an open chair, and she's talking to him while he get checked out to go. As they're leavjng, he says to her, "My eyes don't recognize you no more." But it seems pained for him to say it, and she seems confused.
The "breakdown" sort of part, with the high notes, he's driving, visibly upset and uneasy. He is singing, all the while glancing at her, sadly. She's just talking, like nothing is wrong, while he obviusly seems like something is wrong, as if he had something important to say, yet she doesn't seem to notice.
And, of course, at the end, he goes to visit her grave, and it's obvious that she died in the accident and he's just being taunted by her ghost, maybe just because he's upset, or because he feels guilty because he was driving.
