When everybody else refrains
My uncle Jonny did cocaine
He's convinced himself right in his brain
That it helps to take away the pain
Hey, Jonny
Hey, what you say, Jonny?

I wanna go out tonight
Come a little closer to the city lights
Levitation ain't your only friend
Levitation coming back again
Feel a burning in your body's core
It's a yearning that you can't ignore
Now I wanna go out tonight

Superman and hold on tight
He's convinced himself right in his brain
That it helps to take away the pain
Hey, Jonny
Hey, what you say, Jonny?

My appetite ain't got no heart
I said, my appetite ain't got no heart
Shocking people when you feel that pull
Shock 'em, drop 'em when you know it's full

I feel a burning in your body's core
It's a yearning that you can't ignore
I gotta go out tonight
Hey, Jonny, I got faith in you, man
I mean it, it's gonna be all right
He's convinced himself right in his brain
That it helps to take away the pain
Hey, what you say, Jonny?

Tell us what's going on
Feels like everything's wrong
Hey, what you say, Jonny?
If the future is real
Jonny, you've got to heal
Hey, what you say, Jonny?

When everybody else refrains
My uncle Jonny did cocaine

General Comment:I read somewhere on Wikipedia that Uncle Jonny was really high and he thought UFO's were after his sperm. So Uncle Jonny decided to shoot them off so the UFO's couldn't have 'em, but he missed and shot his leg.

General Comment:so this doesn't have deep meaning. this is the only one on sam's town as far as i'm concerned. And besides it has
a killer (pardon the pun) guitar riff.

General Comment:Have you ever heard of symbolism???

BTW, TheNewZackMorris, where did you find the "song by song guide to Sam's Town"??? Is it on a website? If so, please post the site. I would like to read that. Or is it an interview???
    Does anybody else know???

Also email me with an answer if you know of one and would rather do that than post. Or if you aren't a member.

    Please?

    -peace-

General Comment:My biggest criticism of the Killers and especially this song is that, despite the fact that many of their lyrics are catchy, the words to their songs are so void of any deep meaning that i can only occasionally listen to them.

Uncle Johnny has a catchy tune, but when you stop and listen to the lyrics you begin to realize how shallow and meaningless it is. His uncle is a drug addict so he wrote a song about it? The moral of the song is the following:

Brandon flower has an uncle who is a druggy and he probably should stop doing drugs.

    Great lyrics, Killers

General Comment:yes its a pretty straight foward song, though the way the story is told is clever though the way he manipulated rhyme and structure so lyrics arent just a boring recount:
"levitation ain't your only friend" - levitation being the high from the drug..

"my appetite ain't got no heart" - he's so deeply addicted that he doesn't know why he does it anymore, his appetite for the drug is a natural occurance..

    etc etc

General Comment:i thought pink angel's theory, with the threepeoplething, brandon, jonny and the family, was quite clever
