  My Interpretation:i think she's telling her bf/husband that she needs some time to do what is best for her and that she still cares for him but she needs to take some time to do what she needs to do for herself possibly because he was too controlling or overprotective of her.

  General Comment:this song was put out right after her divorce with nick lachey. it's about how she felt in the whole marriage and why she chose to divorce him. she said that she loves him but she needed to do things on her own. since she became and adult she had been with nick. even though she was very much in love with nick their relationship and marriage was suffocating for her. she never knew what it was like to think for herself and do things on her own. if you listen to the lyrics you will hear it:

  General Comment:even though i dont believe that jessica simpson is an artist of quality, i think that this song is one of her greatest. It sounds like she is finally singing a song that means something to her (the pain over her divorce and everything) and she can finally let out her feelings

  General Comment:this song seems more like jessica's real style of music... about being by yourself and NOT needing to be stuck to someone else all the time. I agree, single is the way to be.

  General Comment:I agree. It has nothing to do with, "We Belong Together". In "We Belong Together" it's about wanting to be with a person. This song is about feeling overwhelmed with a relationship, and she just needs to be alone for a while because she put so much into a relationship & she has nothing left for herself. And for once she needs to be on her own.
  
  I like this song because it kinda describes my life. See, I've never been in love & I'm not ready to be in love. And right now, "I belong to me".

  Sometimes we pretend to be certain people to please our partners, forgetting what makes us happy and who we really are... i know i have... :o(
  
  also we kind of go through life believing if we're not with someone then we've failed, but like she says "i belong to me" and no one else...
