Excuse me sir, I'm lost I'm looking for a place where I can get lost
I'm looking for a home for my malfunctioning being
I'm looking for the mechanical music museum

This is a warning I'll spell it out for you, for you
This is a warning I'll spell it out for you

Excuse me miss I'm a dog on heat
I'm a complicated being with love songs to beat
I'm a problem solving baby who could march all night
I'm a mechanical music man and I'm starting a fire

Hot Chip with break your legs, snap off your head
Hot Chip will put you down, under the ground

Excuse me child, I am trying to see all the colors and wonder your brightness can be
Return to nothingness and joy just might be right
But prepare yourself for a mechanical fright

This is a warning I'll spell it out for you, for you
This is a warning I'll spell it out for you, for you

Hot chip will break your legs, snap off your head
Hot chip will put you down, under the ground
Hot chip will break your legs, snap off your head
Hot chip will put you down, under the ground

Excuse me son, I'm found I'm looking for a place where I was once found
There's nothing in a world where the melody is broken
There's always some way to make the silence be spoken

Hot chip will break your legs, snap off your head
Hot chip will put you down, under the ground
Hot chip will break your legs snap, off your head
Hot chip will put you down, under the ground

This is among my favorite lines in any song. I know nothing about the "true meaning", but to me, it is about the incommunicable emotions that make life feel unique (like the song "Colours"). Even though life in the present can seem dull, and we find ourselves searching through the past for emotions and beauty ("I'm found, I'm looking for a place where I was once found"), the present has an equal capacity for uniqueness and beauty, and the future will continue to bring new experiences and feelings.

General Comment:this song is the epitome of contradiction, which is the underlying theme of The Warning album.

the violent lyrics contradict the soothing music, the verse lyrics also contradict themselves.

Hot Chip is an amazing, underrated band. spread the word

General Comment:I heard this song today in my Sociology class and fell in love with it, instantly. It has such a depth and cohesiveness to it; it's enrapturing.

General Comment:I don't know where I heard this from anymore, but when the album came out I remember reading somewhere that this song came about because critics of their earlier music were saying the band was too wussy, basically .. so this was their attempt at being threatening. very funny.

General Comment:you know that feeling when you are just so caught up in one particular song? that is this song for me right now.
i don't find the lyrics particularly impressive, but the way they're sung is just so captivating. i can't get it out of my head, nor do i want to. the mid-instrumental part is fantastic as well.

General Comment:well, sepulchrav3, it's not necessary to slam the gay community and use the word fag out of context. Would it be a hassle to just discuss your opinion intelligently without using ridiculous words?

In other news, I see why someone would compare the postal service and hot chip, especially with this song in mind in particular. The cooing voices and electronic, programmed beats are among the same genre, but very different approaches.

General Comment:yes danielle76 after reading what u said u make the most sense.

and how can u comapre hot chip and postal service. that voice of whoever that fag is SUCKS. and his lyrics are meaningless. HOT CHIP is a million times better way out of postal service's league

General Comment:i think this song is about growing up.

    "excuse me, sir..."
most younger people are lost in who they are.

    "excuse me, miss..."
    looking for love.

    "excuse me, child..."
    adulthood and missing childhood.

    "excuse me, son..."
    the same as above.
