Well I left my baby
For a dream as lovely
For a love that’s only in books I’ve read
Then I hit the city
Spent all my money
I just left my whole life in a taxicab
Because it’s just a memory
I can love completely
When you’re really with me I’m indifferent
But I tried to get my head clear
It’s too full of ideas
That I haven’t thought of yet
And the time clocks keep waving their hands
Doing all that they can
To get our attention
But the days fly away
Down a clean interstate
I’m staring drunk at a map
So I let my hair down for the second time now
For the final time now
I had my fun
But there’s no returning from the places we’ve been
Just repeat our slogan
“Never again”
So you split
Said you had to get out
Headed back to the south
Where everything’s gentler
But I stay for a couple weeks more
All the weather reports say there will be snow for sure
But the storm moved away to a neighboring state
I started the car
For a dream as lovely
For a love that’s only in books I’ve read
Then I hit the city
Spent all my money
I just left my whole life in a taxicab
Because it’s just a memory
I can love completely
When you’re really with me I’m indifferent
But I tried to get my head clear
It’s too full of ideas
That I haven’t thought of yet
And the time clocks keep waving their hands
Doing all that they can
To get our attention
But the days fly away
Down a clean interstate
I’m staring drunk at a map
So I let my hair down for the second time now
For the final time now
I had my fun
But there’s no returning from the places we’ve been
Just repeat our slogan
“Never again”
So you split
Said you had to get out
Headed back to the south
Where everything’s gentler

Her voice is beautiful.
This song kills me.
Those lines just knock me off my feet every single time.
I thought I read in the Noise Floor booklet that this was a cover or something?
myyyyy bad.
does anyone else hear that, or am i insane?
And basically, I think in the song, he leaves her, loses all his money, gets lost, but then returns to her- i.e., he's "had (done with) his fun" but it's too difficult for her to deal with, she splits, and it looks like he follows - he could be going somewhere else in his car, but the whole song is about him and her, so... make of it what you will.
