Lyrics for We Were Born the Mutants Again with Leaf... as interpreted by delial

We Were Born the Mutants Again with Leaf... Lyrics
She says I'm boring her camera
It takes more to delight the cadaver
Night eyes on icy patrol
Yours were not so Nazi feline
Mine were as dead as monks
And our particles are in motion

Night eyes producing ashes
We love to view unfortunate passions
Still, she takes my photo to bed
No mere limp verse could incite identity destruction
Our particles are in motion

Sometimes we're not legible
But we're the same strange animal
Let them say our love is peculiar, don't care

There's only now, no ever after
We won't let it end in disaster
You are my twin, no I will never go there

I love this song, it puts a really good ending note on the album.

Also, Kevin Barnes is one of the gayest straight men I have ever seen

I read in an interview that "Leafling" is a reference to his daughter, Alabee. So he and Nina are getting back together at least for the sake of their common bond and duty- raising their daughter.

In response to colincsi: the great author D.H. Lawrence once said "I should like to know why nearly every man that approaches greatness tends to homosexuality, whether he admits it or not…" D.H. Lawrence was a married man who had only one wife. So maybe he is a bit bi, because I get that vibe through his music.

when i saw them at pitchfork fest in chicago last month, i realized how sexual so much of their music is, especially hissing fauna. they played a new song in which there were lyrics like 'you know i take it both ways' and 'i swing both ways'. i wish i could remember more exactly, but that was the gist of what i got, haha. just my two cents on the matter. i guess it doesn't make much of a difference, though his openness with sexuality i think definitely lends to the creativity, outrageousness and excitement of thier live shows.

This song breaks my heart. "You are my twin/no I will never go there" just makes my heart swell. It's good to know that there's a happy ending though.

Oh, and "Leafling" is a definite reference to Alabee. Like they're being reborn because they need to for little Alabee.

Is the daughter's name a twist on Albee, as in Edward Albee? Probably not but its just one of their songs i know mentions 'who's afraid of virginia woolf?'. americans always call their children weird stuff lol.

Adding to the potential gay comments, found this line in 'Bunny Ain't No Kind of Rider' interesting:

"No one wants to dance, they're outside
Smoking cigarettes
Matthew was there, yes
He gave me the eye, saying, "It doesn't kill to try"
Then blue lights all around"

Potential allusion to homosexuality? Who knows

can we please stop arguing about Kevin Barnes' sexuality? First of all, it is irrelevant to the song. Second of all, it really just doesn't matter! I think it is sad that a man cannot decide to wear makeup and dresses in public without being considered gay. it is just something he likes to do! It doesn't mean that he's gay!

As far as his daugher's name, he told me that he named her alabee simply because he wanted her to be named something compltely orginal.

The way this song sounds makes me think of ambiguous-looking spaceships emitting vapor trails and criss-crossing eachother inside of some purple nebula. I don't really know why.

osall1219,

I always got the impression that Matthew is encouraging him to give hooking up with his "crush for the night" a try, to help forget Nina? But who knows!

How is this referencing to homosexuality? This song is about him hitting on a girl named Eva at a dance club in Athens, Georgia. Matthew is giving him the eye saying ''it doesn't kill to try''... meaning he's telling Barnes to go ahead and try banging this girl Eva. Blue lights all around are just the blue lights outside of the dance club.. which by the way is called GO BAR

SO in generalality the song is about him making up with his wife but specific lines like night eyes on icy patrol and particles in motion what do those specifically mean?

hmmm. its definitley about Barnes trying to make up with his wife. maybe when he says "particles in motion" hes referencing how even through fighting or breaking up, time is still passing and everything inside of us is mere chemistry...kinda of a "lab objectivist" kinda deal. im not sure.

THE FIRST TIME I HEARD THE INTRO TO THIS SONG, IT REMINDED ME DEFINITLEY OF MGMT'S ELECTRIC FEEL.
now i see why Kevin and Andy are collaborating...MGMT and Of Montreal sound similar in alot of Hissing Fauna's (Of Montreal) and Climbing To New Low's (MGMT's) songs. i dont think im the only one who hears the similarities in the intros of Electric Feel and this song. :) its just nice to hear.

first off: love the song... the acoustic version off the sony connect ep is amazing (along with the rest of the tracks on it). highly recommend getting a hold of it if you haven't.

second: everyone pretty much has the meaning down as far as the song goes, but i too think it's ridiculous that anyone still really debates kevin's sexuality. if you wanna go way back to cherry peel the track "tim i wish you were born a girl" is evidence of that. mind you it pushes the boundries of sexuality (like kevin HAS and probably will continue to do), but seriously... if he were gay he wouldn't have to wish that a guy he finds attractive were a girl.

finally: the new songs. skeletal lamping is a concept album that centers around kevin's onstage persona georgie fruit. georgie is in many ways similar to david bowie's ziggy stardust and if you don't understand the connection i'm making here you really need to run to a record store or go on itunes and buy some bowie. georgie's story is all over the internet if you want to do research. also... this is what kevin had to say about the album being gay: "What I was trying to do was create this idealistic human consciousness where anything goes and there are no restrictions and no boundaries."

the rest of the interview can be found at:

http://thenewgay.net/2008/10/of-montreals-kevin-barnes-new-gay.html

should shed some light on the sexuality questions...
