Lyrics for Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse as interpreted by delial

Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse Lyrics
I'm in a crisis
I need help
Come on mood shift, shift back to good again
Come on mood shift, shift back to good again
Come on, be a friend

Nina Twin is trying to help, and I
Really hope that she succeeds
Though I picked the thorny path myself
I'm afraid, afraid of where it leads

Chemicals, don't strangle my pen
Chemicals, don't make me sick again
I'm always so dubious of your intent
Like I can't afford to replace what you've spent

Nina Twin is trying to help, and I
Really hope she gets me straight
Because my own inner cosmology
Has become too dense to navigate

I'm in a crisis
I need help
Come on mood shift, shift back to good again
Come on mood shift, shift back to good again
Come on, be a friend

Chemicals, don't flatten my mind
Chemicals, don't mess me up this time
Know you bait me way more than you should
And it's just like you to hurt me when I'm feeling good

Come on chemicals

I don't know why no one's posting anything about this song, it's really great. What I've gotten from it is that it's about Kevin's constant mood swings, being as he was on the verge of a breakdown while the band lived in Oslo, Norway (as explained in the first line of A Sentence of Sorts in Kongsvinger) This strikes me as him not wanting to be sad or upset, but not being able to help it. He had his friends and his family there to help him get through it, including Nina Twin as said in the song, and felt the need to thank them all for everything they did for him.
What a song .. I love the first few lines.

to me this seemed to be about struggling with addiction and drug use. "chemicals, don't strangle my pen" (the inability to write music and find inspiration). i especially thought this because at the last show when i talked to him he said that he is now "clean."
"nina twin [his wife] is trying to help and i really hope that she gets me straight."
i'd really like to know more about his supposed mood swings, though. i just assumed this was about drug use.

I don't know really, maybe it's a mix of both the interpretations people have said about the song (from above). Nevertheless, i love the catchiness and electronic beats. (:

This and 'a sentence of sorts in kongsvinger' are probably my favourites on the album.

My mom flat out asked me what the hell this song was about, and I simply told her
"Someone who is having a chemical imbalance and wants to be in a good mood, this their chemical imbalance shifting."
It's kind of funny I should be able to sum it up in a few lines. It's such a deep song.

I think it could be about drugs, but it's probably about depression (chemical imbalance). It's so inspecific that either is highly plausible.

In Greek mythology, Prometheus was a god that gave fire to the mortals. As punishment he spent the rest of eternity (I think?) bound to a rock, where an eagle would come everyday to eat his liver. At night it would grow back, so the eagle could eat it the next day.

So, I think the title implies that Kevin feels like he is stuck in an endless painful cycle. And he's in Norway.

to keep going on the mythological symbolism, from wiki: "Heimdall is the guardian of the gods who will blow the Gjallarhorn if danger approaches Asgard. His senses are so acute that he can hear the grass grow and he can see to the end of the world; he also requires no sleep at all. He is moreover the guardian of the Bifrost Bridge." the bifrost bridge being the one between asgard (land of the gods) and midgard (land of the mortals).

there is an easy connection between enhanced senses and using drugs as a source of inspiration, but i think this idea teams up nicely with lepidoptera3's thoughts on the prometheus reference. he is cursed because drugs had been an integral part of his artistic process, his way of carrying fire down from olympus. at the same time they are what halts it as well, distancing him from other sources of inspiration, such as his love for nina twin. then there is also the expense, both in terms of money and the effect on his brain and body.

just wanted to toss that in for people to think about.

I feel like this is more about chemical imbalance than drugs, as he refers to the problem as mood shifts.

When you mentioned about Prometheum having the punishment of his liver bing eaten I thought that could rever to the effect of alchohol on the liver.

I think its about bipolar disorder. the chemicals he is talking about arent drugs, but chemicals in the brain.

Yeah, I do not think he is talking about drugs but rather natural chemical shifts that cause anger, or depression, etc. The type we have no real direct control over. All the more supported by the urgency in his "come on mood-shift, shift back to good again."

i've had bipolar since i was little and i'm really thinking that's what it's about. i've been taking tons of medications and i get sick off them and i have really high moods and they give me drugs to bring me down again. mood shifts are the worst and when you're in your depressive mood you just pray for it to go back to how you were before, feeling so good.

The song has to be about drug abuse, with drugs that bring euphoria you can get a strong mental addiction, and coming down off of them will make you feel really depressed, I believe when he sings the lines "Chemicals don't strangle my pen", "chemicals, don't make me sick again". he's speaking directly to the drugs, as if asking not to do that to him anymore. Besides, songs are written to express oneself, and oneself's problem, it would be much more likely for a song to be written about an addiction then something as simple as being bipolar.

And also, how could his wife (Nina Twin) help him with a problem if it's something like being bipolar? Where you CAN'T control your mood.

Positive backing can help cheer you up, regardless of bipolar disorder.

Furthermore, he talks about his inner cosmology, seemingly an allusion to chemical imbalance or bipolar disorder. I don't see how bipolarism is "simpler" than a drug addiction. With drugs, at least you can often eventually kick the habit. You're stuck with your own mind for life.

Soon after posting my original post, I concluded that this song is definitely about depression. The more I hear it, the more it sounds like depression and a chemical imbalance controlling how you feel (as opposed to using chemicals to enhance one's mood).

Also, Heimdalsgate is where Kevin lived in Norway.

i want to agree to both chemicals in terms of drugs and natural mood chemicals. his lyrics are all about imagining and interpreting in your own way, so he probably wants there not to be just one way of viewing it. and i also have to add that alcohol was a big factor in his mood (from reading about it in some interviews and seeing the bottles on-stage). and just to add, i disagree with NONE of you, i'm just trying to add on about a song i love!
