Lyrics for Exitlude as interpreted by foldsbaldwin

Exitlude Lyrics
Aggressively, we all defend the role we play
Regrettably, the time’s come to send you on your way.
We’ve seen it all: from bonfires of trust to flashfloods of pain.
It doesn’t really matter, don’t you worry it will all work out.
No it doesn’t really matter, don’t worry, that ain’t what it’s all about.

We hope you enjoyed your stay
And it’s good to have you with us
Even if it’s just for the day
We hope you’ve enjoyed your stay
Outside the sun is shining
It seems like heaven ain’t far away
Its good to have you with us
Even if it’s just for the day

Same here, this is one of my favorites off of Sam's Town. The piano is the best part!

i have to believe that this song is beyond just an exiltude of a concert or for the album itself... rather i would argue that this song is about death itself and how the living are trying to tell the recently departed that the time and influence that this person had on them was something that was greatly appreciated no matter how fleeting the moment was... now the living know this person has gone on because of the beautiful day that is going on outside and that they know they don't have anything to fear in death because their friend will be waiting for them their...

on a personal note... i started thinking this when on the friday after this album was released i visited my 92yr. old grandfather in the hospital and this was the only song he enjoyed as he and i listened and contemplated life ... he passed away later on that night but not before telling me "i love when we listen to your music" (at the end of this song...) but maybe i am totally wrong....

This song actually makes me feel sad that the album is over... kinda like saying goodbye to a friend you haven't heard from in a while after catching up with what's going on in their life.

Although "crow heart" is right, I'm still going to convince myself into believing that this is about life itself.
Just because it's nicer..

I think of it like the end of a relationship, that comes to the point where it needs to end. There was the hardships, and the good times.. but now, it's time in life to just move on.. and find something new. Everything will work out in the end.

This song reminds me of the Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club band by the beatles, where they have a beginning and an ending, like a concert.

i feel that most of the album is about life and the numerous feelings and experiences that can be had in it. the exitlude made me think of friends that have been through thick and thin together and feel like frodo when he says "im glad you're here with me sam gamgee, here at the end of all things". the song projects a feeling of a turning point in a friendship, the kind of turning point which pretty much makes it evident that this friend you're talking to is the best family you could have ever asked for, and no one can deny that you're family. im not sure if made sense to anyone, but it made sense while i was writing this.

I agree with almost everyone who has posted so far. So beautiful and way better than the enterlude. Love how "aggressively" and "regrettably" are sort of spoken, and then the rest of the line is sung beautifully. My favorite first-line to a song:
"Aggressively, we all defend the role we play."

Although, I heard "the road we pave", but this makes more sense. I love Brandon's voice in this song. So comforting. A wonderful ending to anything; an album, a day, a life.
dyc6ko, thank you for that. I have no idea how incredibly sad yet incredibly happy you must have felt at that moment. I'm so sorry, yet I would give alot to have my family appreciate my music. Except their actual life, of course, and I'm sorry it had to be that way for you.
My family criticizes my music alot, and recently I was forced to tell my mom that it isn't God who is most important in my life, but music. I thought she was going to disown me, but it wasn't that bad. Just alot of crying and explaining.
But don't get me wrong, because I'd much rather be in my situation than yours. I've only known 1 grandparent, the rest passed on before I was born. I'm actually grateful that I didn't have to go through their deaths, even though that sounds like the most selfish thing ever. I didn't even know I felt that way, until I wrote it now, and still it seems foreign and evil. I just don't want anyone to feel sorry for me, so forgive me if you feel the same way.

How powerful is this song?

Everyday I come on this site I fall deeper and deeper into the sweet sanctuary of the Killers; I fall further and further in love with them.

Who needs a boyfriend when you have the Killers to love?

My best friend says she admires me for not liking any boys at school, but I guess it's just that there isn't anymore room in my heart for another man, since I already have 4. :)

-peace-

I really love this song, the piano solo at the end is so cool. I am planing to start up a band. I might cover this song. Maybe use it at the end of a concert of something.

It kinda reminded me about the song "drift away".

This is such a tribute to America. We all go through so much together whether it be the horrific tragedy in 9/11 (bonfires of trust) or the floods from Hurricane Katrina (flashfloods of pain). Americans welcome everyone to this amazing country and we are truly the nicest people in the world. The Enterlude is welcoming all into our home for however long they want to stay here.
We hope you enjoy your stay

At the moment I'm just glad that at least The Killers think that "it's good to have you with us, even if it's just for the day". It's good to be reminded about that. Especially now when everyone I care about seems to be a bit.. far.
