When they all come crashing down- midflight
You know you're not the only one
When they're so alone they find a back door out of life
You know you're not the only one
We're all grieving
Lost and bleeding
All our lives
We've been waiting
For someone to call our leader
All your lies
I'm not believing
Heaven shine a light down on me
So afraid to open your eyes- hypnotized
You know you're not the only one
Never understood this life
And you're right I don't deserve but you know I'm not the only one
We're all grieving
Lost and bleeding
All our lives
We've been waiting
For someone to call our leader
All your lies
I'm not believing
Heaven shine a light down on me
Don't look down
Don't look into the eyes of the world beneath you
Don't look down, you'll fall down,
You'll become their sacrifice
Right or wrong
Can't hold onto the fear that I'm lost without you
If I can't feel, I'm not mine,
I'm not real
All our lives
We've been waiting
For someone to call our leader
All your lies
I'm not believing
Heaven shine a light down on me
You know you're not the only one
When they're so alone they find a back door out of life
You know you're not the only one
We're all grieving
Lost and bleeding
All our lives
We've been waiting
For someone to call our leader
All your lies
I'm not believing
Heaven shine a light down on me
So afraid to open your eyes- hypnotized
You know you're not the only one
Never understood this life
And you're right I don't deserve but you know I'm not the only one
We're all grieving
Lost and bleeding
All our lives
We've been waiting
For someone to call our leader
All your lies
I'm not believing
Heaven shine a light down on me
Don't look down
Don't look into the eyes of the world beneath you
Don't look down, you'll fall down,
You'll become their sacrifice
Right or wrong
Can't hold onto the fear that I'm lost without you
If I can't feel, I'm not mine,
I'm not real
All our lives
We've been waiting
For someone to call our leader
All your lies
I'm not believing
Heaven shine a light down on me

She is simply saying that she doesn't want to be a victim to all the things in our society. It is a song about finding a sense of individuality in a world that deceives us to believe that following a certain paradigm will make us fulfilled.
The tuna fish is singing
In a tuna afternoon
(quack, quack, quack)
You know you're not the only one((s)he is obivousaly trying to cheer someone up)
When they all come crashing down, midflight,(maybe angels..i dont know my opinion/thought)
You know you're not the only one.(again trying to make someone feel better...maybe...)
When they're so alone they find a back door out of life.(maybe suicidal or runaway from there problems)
You know you're not the only one.(trying to make someone feel better)
We're all grieving,(maybe the person (s)he is trying to make feel better family is grieving along with that persons friends)
Lost and bleeding.(lost as in confused and bleeding like mentally gone crazy or..cut themself...maybe i dont know)
All our lives,(literal)
We've been waiting(literal)
For someone to call our leader.(maybe Jesus/God theyre savior or group leader...it could be many things for the leader)
All your lies,(now (s)hes mad at the persons lies about something)
I'm not believing.(literal)
Heaven shine a light down on me.(Heaven like..God help him/her through theyre problems...or their difficult times)
So afraid to open your eyes, hypnotized.(the person is afraid to belive in whats happening or something else could be many things like being possesed...)
You know you're not the only one(trying to make the person feel better)
Never understood this life.(literal)
And you're right, I don't deserve(the person (s)he is trying to cheer up tells him/her that they dont deserve to have or be something..maybe the only one of something...maybe)
But you know I'm not the only one.(so now (s)he realizes that (s)he isnt the only one of something...like..being an orphan, running away, hated bullied, or many other things)
(look at top for chorus)
Don't look down,(telling a person not to do that or something bad will happen)
Don't look into the eyes of the world beneath you.(maybe Hell....)
Don't look down, you'll fall down,(fall into Satans hands or something...many possibilites)
You'll become their sacrifice.(literal or torture...i dont know)
Right or wrong.(literal)
Can't hold onto the fear that I'm lost without you.((s)he loves that person maybe as in family or boyfriend/girlfriend)
If I can't feel, I'm not mine,I'm not real.(may already be dead or is having a mental break down...this one im not sure)
We all have our opinions/interperation so this is mine this can be 1 of many posibilites)
It is obviously about their faith because the words "heaven shine a light down on me" were not included in the song by accident! However, I believe the reason they claim to not be a religious band is because they are not preaching their faith, rather in this song they are expressing doubt in their belief.
It seems like this song is about how their religious upbringing has influenced their past epxerience some how. You don't need to be a religious band to sing about that.
I think this is all about a country that is poor,half-destroyed probably form war, and generally people have grieved many loses (we're all grieving, lost and bleeding) and have various problems that led them some of them to suicide (back door out of life)
And this talks about a leader that manages to make the situation better but he/she cares only about their ambitions and led people to fanatism and killing without reason."When they all come crashing down, in mid-flight.You know you're not the only one." (sounds like war doesn't it? or could also refer to the guilt of killing)
They claim that's the form of life, the stronger survives, but the singer says:
"Never understood this life, you're right.I don't deserve but you know you're not the only one." (i never understood how life works and I don't deserve to be a leader but you are not the only one that can guide us.)
So afraid to open your eyes, hypnotized.
You know you're not the only one. (they don't find the strength to refuse to kill and torture cause the y feel like hypnotised and afraid that without their bloodthirsty leader they will end up like they used to be)
All our lives, we've been waiting for someone to call our leader.
All your lies, not believing.
Heaven shine a light down on me. (they have been waiting for a leader to help them outta this situation, but not a leader that will make them become killers and fanatics. the singer asks the help of god cause she can't deal with all the pain she has caused)
This is kind of hyronic.
Don't look down, don't look into the eyes of the world beneath you.
Don't look down, you'll fall down, you'll become their sacrifice. (this is the way leaders think. They don't listento the people because they are afraid that if the get too emotionally close they will end up sacrificing themselves for the greater good)
Right or wrong, can't hold on to the fear that I'm lost without you.
If I can't feel, I'm not mine, I'm not real. (and don't know if the way you rule us is right or wrong but I can't live in the fear that if you leave us we will be lost again. If I keep on rithlessly killing I will just become an object.)
That's only mine interpretation...I hope others feel this song like that too. I mean, this song could be about the war in Afganistan or the war that used to rage in Iraq. However I dunno if Americans have that feelings themselves, and even if they don't I don't blame them, you think the way you grow up...I am not American so I don't know how they think. However hope u people like this!
When they all come crashing down, in mid-flight.
You know you're not the only one.
These lines can be interpreted as coming out of the closet to your family and friends. Many LGBT people choose to do this, and they run the risk of getting hurt by their loved ones.
When they're so alone, they find a back door out of life.
You know you're not the only one.
We're all grieving, lost and bleeding.
Many closeted individuals commit suicide, or they stay in the closet, in turmoil and struggling. They're essentially lost and confused and feel like they're the only ones going through this situation.
All our lives, we've been waiting for someone to call our leader.
All your lies, not believing.
Heaven shine a light down on me.
A leader to one of these persons can be a friend, a loved one, a mentor, a counselor/therapist...
All your lies could be a reference to Christians and overly religious people telling them they're going to go to hell and the love for the same gender is wrong and unnatural. So the narrator asks for heaven to shine some light on the situation.
So afraid to open your eyes, hypnotized.
You know you're not the only one.
This could be interpreted as opening your eyes and accepting yourself for who you are. Coming to terms with yourself and your sexuality. Being happy within yourself.
Never understood this life, you're right.
I don't deserve but you know you're not the only one.
Everyone else doesn't understand the "choice" or lack thereof to be gay, but that's who that person is and they know they're not alone.
Don't look down, don't look into the eyes of the world beneath you.
Don't look down, you'll fall down, you'll become their sacrifice.
I see this as the person rising above all of the negativity and becoming better and becoming free, so much so that they are figuratively flying. High on life. The narrator is telling the person don't look at the negative world. Don't succumb to the pressure of being criticized by people who don't understand you. If you do, you'll fall victim to them and be depressed again.
Right or wrong, can't hold on to the fear that I'm lost without you.
If I can't feel, I'm not mine, I'm not real.
If it's right or wrong, the person is going to love themselves regardless of what everyone says, regardless of what everyone thinks.
I'm not saying this is what the song means in no way. It's merely a personal interpretation and another vantage point on this amazing song. :-D
Unrelatedly, there's an ad on the page about the warning signs of a stroke. Vaguely amusing, in a semi-ironic sort of way.
