Feels like the weight of the world
Like God in heaven gave me a turn
Don't cling to me, I swear I can't fix you
Still in the dark, can you fix me?

Free fall, free fall, all through life

If you love me then let go of me
I won't be held down by who I used to be
She's nothing to me

Feels like the weight of the world
Like all my screaming has gone unheard
And oh, I know you don't believe in me
Safe in the dark, how can you see?

Free fall, free fall, all through life

If you love me then let go of me
I won't be held down by who I used to be

If you love me then let go of me
I won't be held down by who I was

If you love me then let go of me
I won't be held down by who I used to be

General Comment:I always thought it was about how Amy's fans look up to her so much, but she is just human. She can't save everyone. And all of her fans are looking to her as their Dark Goddess and she doesn't get it because if she's dying inside and they know it, why are they trying to be like her?

just my opinion. even if i may be one of those fans who look up to her like that, in all honesty.

General Comment:I always thought it was like person x has changed and people y still expect x to be like before. But the person's changed, so they should let go of them if they really love them. Love to listen to it when I change AGAIN and AGAIN.

General Comment:This song is about pressure from fans and the media. If anyone hasn't noticed ny now, in the past few years, you see so many girls running around with long black hair, tripp pants and armwarmers, singing and playing piano, etc. Amy has become an icon for so many teenagers, and now she feels pressured to do everything right, because she knows she's being watched. Also, her music and style has changed from the previous album, and she doesn't want to maintain her old image.

Feels like the weight of the world
(all the pressure from the fans and media, along with family and personal issues, is a lot on her back)
like God in heaven gave me a turn
(God gave her a purpose to change the lives of these people)
don't cling to me, I swear I can't fix you
(She doesn't want these people to cling to her like she's a god and depend on her, quote "Don't cling to me, I don't have the answers!" She isn't a god, she can't fix everyone)
still in the dark, can you fix me?
(This might mean that she's asking God to fix her from what she's become, or asking the fans to help her in return)

    freefall, freefall, all through life

If you love me, then let go of me
(This could be directed to anyone. To her fans, her family, ex lovers, God. If they love her, they have to realize she's human, and can fend for herself. She isn't a frail little doll)
I wont be held down by who I used to be
(She won't feel pressured to maintain the image she set up for herself, she's changing)
    she's nothing to me

Feels like the weight of the world
like all my screaming has gone unheard
(Fans worship her and love her, but can't hear her 'screaming'. They can't fix her problems like she's fixed theirs)
and oh I know you don't believe in me
safe in the dark, how can you see?
(How can all these people claim to love her, when they don't know what she's going through?)

    freefall, freefall, all through life

If you love me, then let go of me
I wont be held down by who I used to be

General Comment:The riff at the beginning has a very arabian sound, not egyptian.
The song was written about how they've changed their sound and how they won't let the pressures of fans and media hold them down.
Personally though, the song makes me think of the issues I'm having with my parents right now.
The lines "If you love me, then let go of me. I won't be held down by who I used to be. She's nothing to me." especially.

General Comment:This song isn't about the breakup. She said so herself, it's about how the band is changing and she wants their fans to forgive them.

"If you love me, than let go of me. I won't be held down by who I used to be."

I think that's pretty clear. The old Evanescence is who they USED to be; people change.

"Don't cling to me, I swear, I can't fix you."

People depend on their music, thinking that it'll keep them from being depressed. But it won't.

General Comment:This song is pretty spectacular. Actually, most of the songs on their new album are. I support it, unlike the new Linkin Park album, which practically sucks....

The chorus is very lifting. The beginning, though, sounds a bit choppy and I wasn't the most fond of it, but as always, it grew on me. I love the part in the middle with the acoustic guitar, it was so different from the rest of their works. It's so symbolic.

And it's true-- a lot of songs on "Fallen" were rather depressing. I like the sound of it, but I appreciate the change in Evanescence. It's a good one. Because Amy herself said that she was going through a phase, that the music was the only thing that she had control over, and it all went into the album. But with "The Open Door", she could do so much more with it.

    Go Evanescence!

anyway this song's rlly awesome and i like it's music more than i like it's lyrics..and the most thing that attracts me in this song when amy says
"I won't be held out by who i used to be, she's nothing to me"
