Lyrics for I Don't Love You (Like I Did Yesterday) as interpreted by AbsolutionAgent_gMs

I Don't Love You (Like I Did Yesterday) Lyrics
Well when you go
Don't ever think I'll make you try to stay
And maybe when you get back
I'll be off to find another way

And after all this time that you still ove
You're still a good-for-nothing I don't know
So take your gloves and get out
Better get out
While you can

When you go
Would you even turn to say
I don't love you
Like I did
Yesterday

Sometimes I cry so hard from pleasing
So sick and tired of all the needless beating
But baby when they knock you
Down and out
Is where you oughta stay
And after all the blood that you still owe
Another dollar's just another blow
So fix your eyes and get up
Better get up
While you can

When you go
Would you even turn to say
I don't love you
Like I did
Yesterday

When you go
Would you have the guts to say
I don't love you
Like I loved you
Yesterday

I don't love you
Like I loved you
Yesterday
I don't love you
Like I loved you
Yesterday

maybe i haven't read the lyrics enough times but i suppose it means that this love can't have the same power in the future as it had in the past so the best thing to do is be honest and don't pretend that there are FEELINGS.maybe only the power of NEED exists after all this time,{not LOVE}and that's not enough..but generally i think that true love,{not passion,},true love can't lose its power .who knows

I havent seen the vid yet, but I agree with one of the first meanings, about the mafia.
Or it could be like my ex, and exactly what happened with us...

Long story short:
Apparently I owe him all this money, but I fell out of love with him and fell for another guy, but didnt have the guts to say it til we'd been over for a few weeks....

But, on the other side of the spectrum it could be that after everything thats gone on the patient loves his partner/friends etc more than yesterday because they're standing by him.

p.s, has anyone decided whether the patient lives or dies?? Gerard said it was up to the listener

The video is amazing, the song is heartbreaking
What I think the meaning is:
The guy is covered in black which is referring to his illness and addiction (to drugs, as Gerard was in his past)
When they first fell in love, you can see her wearing a white long dress and a white scarf.
And as time goes by…
She starts to lose her sense of right and wrong and she starts to get influenced by him as she first loses her scarf then black paint rubs off on her back, her dress gets shorter and then gets really short at the end.
"Would you even turn to say,
:"I don't love you like I did yesterday?
Means, he wants her to leave now while she can before he deeply hurts her and then she loses her love for him.
He wants her to remember him as he was when they first fell in love.

The theory is as stated; Gerard had lost his girlfriend (At the time he was making Famous Last Words) and this song could be an idirect way to say, I've gone on.

Yet I would add that "I've gone on, yet I'm not" the singer is halfway from closure and regret. The video is quite different than the song. The video can be the interprete as a young innocent girl (Signified by white) being tainted be the boy (Signified as black) it is not racist which some people may wrongly interprete. The boy isn't evil or lusty or any of the such. It just that he is somethign so different and something that is so foriegn to the girl. The black which is left on the girl is to symoblise her reaching the point in life when she can't be considered innocent, yet signifying he willingness to mature and indirectly love.

At the end of the video. As things go exploding. It is to signify the boy leaving the girl. She's stained now, for what some may believe as forever. As she's slowly regreting over her decision. Or felling abandoned. And as the rain starts to pour, she allows herself to forget, yet in her heart she is scarred. (Signified by the black rain and the marks still there).

"I don't love you, like I did yesterday" the line is to explain that everything has ended, by theres still some feelings in both ends. And it's hard to let go. The line is a reassurance from the singer to himself, allowing himself to move on, from what he used to cherish to something he has to forget.

A great song and very imagnative (though usually grossly over used in the movie/music industy) video concept!

Well SaintsLoveSinners has a good idea, but there is one problem the song was written long before the break up. actualy i fink the video has nothing to do with the song just like The Ghost Of You... The Ghost Of you is About loosing someone close the video is about the war and people loose the ones they love. I don't love you asI written above is about hearting someone you love and knowing they should leave before you heart them more but still you don't want them to go so the video is about to lovers.
Anyway Gee did say that in tThree Cheers For Sweet Revenge all videos had a story but in The Black Parade it is more about "Rocking Out" ... Houp you get my idea. I'm not English or American so it is kinda hard to anderstand what i mean my english is't very good... :)

let me say a little bit about this song. well, first off, GERARD LOOKS HAWT in his sexy new video! haha, loop-to-loop is back and I will continue to post more comments under my chemical romance after a year of being offline. Red hotel kiss my ass. I still love b12. That arguement that year of May 2006 was so dumb and immature. we was using this like a chatroom to see who could win some childish debate. I wont do that anymore. Because I'm not 14 anymore. I'm 16. BUT ANYWAYS, yeah, who doesn't want to kiss Gerard Way? He is so f-ing awesome. I think even guys wanna kiss him even if they're straight. lol Yeah oh yeah and btw, to 12 year old girls this song is beyond their head and I'm sure they care about Daniel Radcliffe or Brendon Urie more right now. blah! ok I'm being wierd!.........bottom line, I LUV GEE-WAY!

Did anyone know that Gerard sang this song on the Life on the Murder Scene dvd? It's all the way at the end during "The Future" segment and Ray was playing guitar and Gerard was singing. I noticed because I started to sing along with him and I said to myself that I know this song and I realized it was "I Don't Love You"

some of the lyrics are wrong isn't it pleading instead of pleasing?

yeah, it is pleading.

If you look at their most recent interview with MTV news [I hate referencing them, but they're usually accurate instead of some teenie site] they mention that Gerard broke up with his girlfriend of 6 years. It's probably about that, because during that 6 year time he'd been addicted to cocaine -- "another dollar's just another blow". I think it's from the girl's point of view, talking about him leaving to tour all the time -- "don't ever think I'll make you try to stay".

"When they knock you down and out" might be some reference to critics or haters or something.

oh, and even though the song was written a really long time ago, the lyrics definitely changed a lot since then.

but I think SinnersLoveSaints had a really good idea of it.

This song, to me, reminded me of a man going off to fight a war. The war is over, or the man can go back home, but the man realizes that, even though he still loves his girl, he doesn't love her like he did before. He still cares for her, but it's not intense anymore.

Why does everyone's example always be "12 year old girls." As a matter of fact, I am 12. And look, I'm not swooning over Gerard Weigh and the guys in MCR. I actually put the meaning of the song in my last post, but that was before I read other comments. Why does everyone pick on '12 year old girls'? I know, lots are like, "Wow, he is SO gorgeous, and, like, well, he's just... so, like... well you know... like... hott!" I do that sometimes too, but who doesn't say 'Yeah he's hott.' or for guys, 'Yeah she's hott.' Yes, I know most 12 year old ditzes follow the pack and polish up their look for the future years of exposing their skin, but I don't. Just... if you're going to say, "12 year old girls." say... something else... because not all girls do that. Yeah, in general, but there are the odd people (Like me...) who stick out of the crowd.

I like to rant, by the way.

The song is very good, but its mainstream. By the time you realize its true meaning, everyone will label you as a poser. Isn't it sad? People gotta think that they're true, but bands are simple mediums to music. Isn't music all the same? Does it not serve the same purpose? To trigger emotion?

The song is very moving, and catchy, the chorus is very simple, yet impactful. After all, haven't we all felt that we lost our trust, our love our feelings for someone, atleast once?

to Fallen_Leaves:
yeah, a lot of people pick on 12-year-olds. It's because generally [and I'm generalizing here, hence the word choice] they haven't had as much experience of an artist who has been around for 4+ years. A lot of times when the younger fans find out about the artists it's on a TV show [this may not apply to you, but like I said, I'm stereotyping] like MTV or something and then that leads to 'LAWLZ he's so hawt, i should check out his band' so they like the look before they like the band, which leads to the 'teenie' thing.
but like you said, everyone's different. And sorry for the completely irrelevant post.

[it's Gerard Way, not Weigh.]

Oh. They sound the same... Way, Weigh. The stereotypes are embarassing. I am labelled as a wierdo or moron in my school, because I don't play like girls. Oh well life sucks. I forgive you. Haha. Anyways, I like the part where the sound goes more dim, and he is saying "I don't love you, like I loved you, yester..." real quiet. Then he bursts out at "day." That's one of my favourite parts of this song.

i was going to resist the urge to have a bit of a rant but i can't, so i shall add into the discussion(again)..
I heard of and (excuse the cheesyness)fell in love with MCR around the time that their second album came out, which was BEFORE loads of people liked them just because it's cool..so it was still weird to some other people that i liked that kind of music. and of course, people being crap and mean like they are, i got picked on and excluded from whatever most people (the "cool" ones) were doing.
AND NOW it's become the trendy thing to be/dress/listen to things that are "alternative" so it has become almost the mainstream and it drives me mad because it's like i got picked on for nothing because now everyone thinks the things that used to be considered freakish are cool.
in some ways it's good, but now i hate when i get lumped in with the crowd that have suddenly caught on to a trend and are trying sooo hard.

yikes i think i've gone on enough for now, add/email me if you'd like a further discussion/rant/moan. :)

x.

I don't think it's right that people keep using 12 year old girls as a reference. Because some 12 year old girls do have some sense, I'm 13 so I kind've feel bad for them. I just think that it's about the caner patient, and that his lover can't love him like she did before. So though she still loves him it's just not like it used to be. And the patient knows this, so since he's probably going to end up dying, he's not as angry as you think he you would expect, which is why the song is more melodic and soft.

Hmm.... first of all i'd just like to say that this song is amazing!
In my opinion this song is about two people who fall in love. Until one day, one leaves. They don't come back and when they do return they don't seem as if they're the same person.

Yeah some twelve year olds have sense but it bugs me for most of my peers are immature. Not saying that they're bad people because of that, but it's just that I can't really have a conversation with them easily because they are more immature than I am.

I still think it's about a guy going off to war and loses his love for his girl while fighting out there.
