Is there anyone who ever remembers
Changing their mind from the paint on a sign?
Is there anyone who really recalls
Ever breaking record off
For something someone yelled real loud one time?
Oh, everyone believes
In how they think it ought to be
Oh, everyone believes
And they're not going easily
Belief is a beautiful armor
But makes for the heaviest sword
Like punching underwater
You never can hit who you're trying for
Some need the exhibition
And some have to know they tried
It's the chemical weapon
For the war that's raging on inside
Oh, everyone believes
From emptiness to everything
Oh, everyone believes
And no one's going quietly
[Chorus]
We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for
We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for
Is there anyone you can remember
Ever surrender with their life on the line?
[Chorus]
What puts a hundred thousand children in the sand?
Belief can, belief can
What puts a folded flag inside his mother's hand?
Belief can, belief can.
Changing their mind from the paint on a sign?
Is there anyone who really recalls
Ever breaking record off
For something someone yelled real loud one time?
Oh, everyone believes
In how they think it ought to be
Oh, everyone believes
And they're not going easily
Belief is a beautiful armor
But makes for the heaviest sword
Like punching underwater
You never can hit who you're trying for
Some need the exhibition
And some have to know they tried
It's the chemical weapon
For the war that's raging on inside
Oh, everyone believes
From emptiness to everything
Oh, everyone believes
And no one's going quietly
[Chorus]
We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for
We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for
Is there anyone you can remember
Ever surrender with their life on the line?
[Chorus]
What puts a hundred thousand children in the sand?
Belief can, belief can
What puts a folded flag inside his mother's hand?
Belief can, belief can.

Is there anyone who ever remembers
Changing their mind from the paint on a sign?
[He's talking about marches, and other means of influence towards oppression, typically those who don't understand why a certain change is necessary.]
Is there anyone who really recalls
Ever breaking rank at all
For something someone yelled real loud one time?
[Again the influence that each side has the ones that think they are right towards those in the "wrong". btw Johnny Boy wrote a lyric in his Born And Raised Album's Shadow Days "Did you know that you could be wrong and swear your right, some people have been known to do it all their lives"
Oh, everyone believes
In how they think it ought to be
[In my life, I never tried to influence people by forcing my view upon them, I usually influence by stating how it makes me feel not on why they should be influenced. The words he uses describes the influences that violate the language of peace. Such as the words of the people that try to force you into their group, or submit to their authority without proper declaration on why they feel they should do what they do.]
Oh, everyone believes
And they're not going easily
[The Fear of Death has people do the most unusual things to obtain attention and a sense of control]
Belief is a beautiful armor [It can protect you from the mal-influence]
But makes for the heaviest sword [Its hard to wield because of the doubt of others]
Like punching underwater
You never can hit who you're trying for [The impact in others is not enough]
Some need the exhibition
[religion]
And some have to know they tried
[politicians such as lincoln]
It's the chemical weapon
For the war that's raging on inside
[The chemical weapon is Anger. Probably caused by those that do not care for the peace of body, mind, and soul through proper reformation]
Oh, everyone believes
From emptiness to everything
[Description of the many views people have towards life]
Oh, everyone believes
And no one's going quietly
[That everyone needs to make a scene to feel wanted, loved, recognized]
[Chorus]
We're never gonna win the world [Because the world stopped learning the meaning of respect and how important it is to see everything in other people's eyes and truly get to know each other because its not the things that matter, its the energy that we make and create. I taught myself to respect others and respect yourself more, and winning the world is only possible if you win yourself]
We're never gonna stop the war [Because the lack of respecting]
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for [Meaning what it means. We will never beat the evil because some people believe its right, and/or necessary to do evil and influence evil, and its not okay, jeez, the bible was created to teach morals and unite the people, not about "who is God" and if you really dont know who it is, youre an angry soul searching for a way to help yourself and others still.]
We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for
[I think he wants this to really get to your head, because he said it twice]
Is there anyone you can remember
Ever surrender with their life on the line?
[This means that people will fight for what is right if given the chance to]
[Chorus]
What puts a hundred thousand children in the sand?
Belief can, belief can
[The Ill thinking of people that all humans dont deserve to have proper shelter]
What puts a folded flag inside his mother's hand?
Belief can, belief can.
[War is based on what people believed to be proper actions]
well, that's my belief
It definitely has an undertone on the war on terror, but i believe (haha) that in general it is about general beliefs.
He wrote this song for all you religions haters too. You writing a comment on a webpage on his song aint gonna win the world, and it aint gonna stop the war.
If he is critisicing anyone it includes all of us.
That's my belief of this song. :)

all i'm saying is dont tear it apart too much, it's meant to be read as a whole song, not just a few lines
He's quite smart and he's obviously talking bout
killing in the name of God. (in our case christianism)
We don't remember changing our minds at one particular
point cuz we can't really see how they keep introducing
ideas into our little brains, makin us believe what they
need us to believe to justify their actions.
What justify our children being killed?
What justify killing their children?
It's not that they believe in suicide.
In case u don't know US gobernment (Bush) was the one who
set up all the 9/11 tragic event. It was their excuse to
kill them all and get their oil!!
"mass grave for the pump and the price is set"
And that is closer to what the song's really all about.
AND WE ARE NEVER GONNA CHANGE THE WORLD IF WE KEEP ON BUYIN THEIR LIES.
RELIGION IS A LIE ..(and I believe in god but not as an institution)

Ever remembers
Changing their mind from
the paint on a sign?
Is there anyone who
Really recalls
Ever breaking rank at all,
for something someone yelled real loud one time?
^ We all have our different beliefs, and none of us change our mind simply from 'the paint on a sign' or someone yelling 'real loud' at us. We are all, to a degree, dogmatic.
Oh everyone believes
In how they think it oughta be
Oh everyone believes
And theyre not going easy...
^ Even though we may not have great reasons for believing what we do, we're 'not going easily' - we won't back down about them.
Belief is a beautiful armor
But makes for the heaviest sword
Like punching underwater
You never can hit who you're trying for
Some need the exhibition
Some have to know they're trying
Its the chemical weapon
for the war thats raging on inside
^ Belief is the armor that helps us understand our lives. But it 'makes for' the heaviest sword - that is, in the armor that is our belief, we search out the opposite view (the heaviest sword) to test our armor against it. But it makes no difference - 'you never can hit who you're trying for'. The best you can do is reinforce your message to people who already believe what you do. Some need the exhibition or to know they're trying in life, through their beliefs. It's the chemical weapon that helps settle the war of nerves and self-doubt inside everyone.
Oh everyone believes
From emptiness to everything
Oh everyone believes
And no ones going quietly...
^ as above
Were never gonna win the war,
Were never gonna stop the war
Were never gonna beat this,
if belief is what were fighting for
Were never gonna win the war
Were never gonna stop the war
Were never gonna beat this,
if belief is what were fighting for
^ Reinforcing the message that belief cannot be forced upon anyone - as a race human beings are never going to progress if we don't accept this.
Is there anyone
Who can remember,
Ever surrendered
With their life on the line?
^ Dogmatism again
Were never gonna win the war,
Were never gonna stop the war
Were never gonna beat this,
if belief is what were fighting for
Were never gonna win the war
Were never gonna stop the war
Were never gonna beat this,
if belief is what were fighting for
^ as above
What puts one-hundred thousand children in the sand?
Belief can...Belief can
What puts a folded flag inside his mothers hand?
Belief can...Belief can
^ describing the effects of dangerous ideas - showing why we need to be concerned about people espousing their beliefs.
An incredibly mature song, dealing with a huge issue.
